Try add a split shot just above your hook but not to heavy. Big nenues can be hesitant to come up high if limu is floating but whatever you did also works apprently lol.
When you hooked up on the limu that was either kala or nenue I fish for those fish using that method. I love when there's other people watching me cause when I hook up with these limu they walk up and ask "did u really use the seaweed? " ofcourse lol but use 40lb test I promise never lose a fish again they strong buggahs
Use # 6 or 8 BKNK hook, 1/2 egg lead, leader line is 2 to 3" braided 20lb test to hook, 30lb braided main line, slow retrieval. you did AOK on the seaweed. Try that, it works. chance'um set up use for Kala and Nenue
Come Kauai can show you. I have some videos showing my set up. Typically the fish will only eat the limu from around there, even the "ugly" ones. If you pick limu from one place then try fish it somewhere far away the fish there wont even touch it most times. Also 15 is way to light for leaders. I use 40 with a 50 lb splice to keep from cutting, especially when they find a hole. Keep going though you'll figure it out eventually, you getting them to bite which is the first part of the battle.
I like to hook the very tip of the leaves and then no wraps so the line stays strong, looked like you hooked a monstah, the thing was ripping out line🤙
I put 2 hooks. I broke the line between the 2 hooks. Last time I hooked a pananu uhu. I wonder if that is what it was this time and it cut the line with its teeth. 🤙
For Nenue, you can fight big kine at Alan Davis. For Kala I don’t know where but you should learn throw net. You could throw on piles of minini and Kala
That was prolly a nenue that broke your line. Their famous for diving below ledges and rubbing your line on it, which causes it to snap🤦🏽♂️ but it always fun to learn a new set up. Hopefully you catch your Kala soon
I’ve caught nenue, kala and oio off the yoda color before lol but that limu set up is one of the ways I do it sometimes I just split my main line with two hooks and no float depends on the water.
Hey brother, ill be visiting Oahu in March, and I am planning on bringing my travel rod with me. What kid of jigs and lures do you guys use out there in such clear water? Here in Southern California I would usually use berkley gulp grubs, or krocodile lures or small spoons. Would those work out there since your watch is much clearer and I would imagine the fish's visibility would be much better as well. If you have any other suggestions please let me know!
Wassup Nick, I currently live in Las Vegas. I’m coming back to Oahu this month and going fishing for Kala & Nenue. I make my own Floaters and have a secret tie and hook we use. If interested your welcome to join us on our fishing trip. Aloha! 🤙
Man, that was a tough break losing that fish. Next time try casting out a whole sheet of nori. Maybe the fish will get stuck to it and roll himself up. You would have yourself the freshest sushi roll ever!
ahh good try tho. i remember my uncle guys used to look for the one with the bulbs ( female?) same seaweed just get round bulbs here and there. anyway i was always curious how the action of the curly tails and how diff colors look underwater. definatly would be interested to see more. campania and da kine should pay you for those footage. help them sell. didnt know the glitter reflected that much underwater too. nice. you get'em next time. thats why they call it fishing and non catching..... also no forget to keep a tight line.
Not sure if you saw it already but check out the videos uncle Joe Olivas from Kauai. He has a couple videos on his set up for using limu. Ive tried it and it worked for me. 🤙
You had everything going good till you lost that kala. Need Plenty drag you can't horse them in like Omilu plus don't need to worry to much on kala going into cracks they stay on top of water for the most part eating what ever floating weed being pounded from waves and turtles are around you know gotta have kala.. Hades everything perfect till drag snapped line My secret is to use 8 lb. Test braided line and casting it in whitewash water... north west shore are prime stomping grounds for kala fishing
The one that got away.
Haha seriously 🤙
Mz #15 gold hook,use #4 split shot
Campbells get ackshen too. U doin it rt.. Dabo hook. But cherry. I like try thise Campania at lake mead on some stripe bass
Kala/nenue like plenty white water, rough water! Floater rig works good! Kala limu catch big nenues
Thanks for the info. 🤙
You gotta use the big drift wood type floater with the long skinny top and bottom and use that exact bait but gotta go more calm spot
thanks 🤙
Try add a split shot just above your hook but not to heavy. Big nenues can be hesitant to come up high if limu is floating but whatever you did also works apprently lol.
Thanks for the tip. 🤙
That is the way and I put 2 bb leads right on the bottom of it
I will give the lead a try next time. thanks 🤙

I was gonna ask that. You think the wraps knotted and broke the line?
Maverick Quartero it’s possible, it could have rubbed against rocks tho
I put 2 hooks. I broke the line between the 2 hooks. Last time I hooked a pananu uhu. I wonder if that is what it was this time and it cut the line with its teeth. 🤙
@@RAHfishing Hope you catch one soon. I like see what work.
Reel Adventures Hawaii ahh that would make sense🤙🏼
For Nenue, you can fight big kine at Alan Davis. For Kala I don’t know where but you should learn throw net. You could throw on piles of minini and Kala
Yeah I got a few nets. But haven't gone in years. 🤙
Good idea to know a bunch of exits and spots where the flat reef is so you can run if you have to
I’ll go with you!!
Scubachris has a video about fishing with seaweed. I think he lives on Oahu or Maui also.
thanks 🤙
We go try for some monster nenue I got a few spots kala too
I prefer Kala but I asked for nenue because they stay in the same spots. Let me know when. 🤙
That was prolly a nenue that broke your line. Their famous for diving below ledges and rubbing your line on it, which causes it to snap🤦🏽♂️ but it always fun to learn a new set up. Hopefully you catch your Kala soon
Wish I could have at least seen it lol. 🤙
I’ve caught nenue, kala and oio off the yoda color before lol but that limu set up is one of the ways I do it sometimes I just split my main line with two hooks and no float depends on the water.
Thats awesome you caught on grubs. 🤙

Yes they would work. Most people go with a Carolina Rig style. Hit me on IG before you fly in. 🤙
@@RAHfishing 🤙 You got it bud. I will add you now.
Splice a few inches of braid. Hook, braid spliced into your 15 pound test leader.
Always fish nenui, and always aktion caught choke last weekend, always good fun 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Nice. I just want a legal Kala for my goal this year. 🤙
Reel Adventures Hawaii rajah, always fish nenui, everytime try to whip catch nothing
Thats how i am every time i use limu. No catch lol. 🤙
Reel Adventures Hawaii if you planning on nenui, bread is the candy for nenui !
You should try the elephant ear seaweed if there is on the reef, I caught a lot of kala with it while using the j hooks
No idea what that looks like. Can you send me a picture on IG. 🤙
Nice vid! For grubs I usually like to keep a bag in my pocket with the mix for the day. That way I dont put em through the washer. Shout out from Maui
Good idea. I will probably do that in the future trips. 🤙
Hey man...why don't u use a heavy setup with a floating gt stickbait 56g for giant papio..they will destroy it...
I want to try. But the bites are far and few in between. Planning on trying something this year. 🤙
like #100 yessss
Thanks 🤙
Where is that

Message me on IG. Depending on my back I would be interested in tagging along. 🤙
im js starting to fish, how are you able to whip over the reef without getting stuck everytime?
Adjust your retrieve speed. If it feels like the lead is hitting the bottom you have to pick up the speed. 🤙
check out WWJ he gives pointers for nenue
Yeah ive watched his videos. Good stuff for sure. 🤙
Nanakuli beach park I cought 2 kalas with a grub no B.s.
THanks 🤙

Never heard of that. Got to look it up. thanks 🤙

“I don’t know what that was maybe a shark in the wave” *continues to walk out
Lol this guy stay safe😂
Haha 🤙 The biggest turtle I have ever seen. The shell was like 5+' lol
Reel Adventures Hawaii. It’s scarier when one swims up to you when u got a tako.
Yeah thats not fun especially since you always looking down lol. 🤙
My mom finds grubs and swivels in my short pockets when she washes clothes. The worse was when I left half a shrimp in there.
Ahhh man. That must have been nasty for sure lol. 🤙
your seaweed set up worked the fish just broke the line, I'd do the same thing again it proved it can catch.
Definitely try again for sure. Tried for another hour half after I lost that one and nothing. 🤙
Can you make a video using popper or jerkbaits from shore ? thank love your videos ! I would like to see something different
Im going to go try one day. But im not too knowledgable about that style of fishing 🤙
Not sure if you saw it already but check out the videos uncle Joe Olivas from Kauai. He has a couple videos on his set up for using limu. Ive tried it and it worked for me. 🤙
Yeah that where i got the general setup from. He has good info on it for sure. 🤙
Almost braddah lol let um run choke next time lol
Yeah it didnt try to run at all. I think it was a pananu like last time. Just sat there and kept shaking its head. 🤙

Thanks. 🤙

What do you think bit the seaweed?
Kala? Palani?
I’ve never fished with seaweed before.
Awesome video!
Theres a guy on youtube that uses frozens peas in southern cali, he catch everything. You should try it in hawaii
THats crazy lol. I will give it a try. 🤙
It didnt run a lot. It was more head shakes. So i think it was a pananu. But i dont know. 🤙
Lol smart for blurring out your spot over there. I’ve been getting lucky with mois at that spot
I blurred it because my friend said its his good Moi spot. So had to do my best to hide it. 🤙
When you lost the fish that bit the seaweed you should have tried again. You gave up way too fast
I tried for an hour half after. But i can make a video of that. It's too boring. 🤙
Cheeee #BlurDaRocks
😂🤣😂
@@RAHfishing haha good job brah, never seen the video blur yet
Disliked for the blur
