Pizza Time plays during the timed escape sequence. The game switches to frantic portion (10:54) when you're low on time, so the Mario comparison is a good example, though I guess it's more dynamic in this case.

All the escape themes just play out as time passes; there are no "low on time" transitions. Pizza Time plays during the regular escape and will play out until the player either escapes, enters the lap 2 portal, or runs out of time and gets caught by pizzaface. Death that I Deservioli plays during lap 2, and will play out fully until the player either leaves or gets caught by pizzaface, again. Some levels have very long escapes and its possible to get the songs to loop.
I once heard a really good descriptor for the first two songs: "It's Pizza Time!" is the theme song of trying to outrun certain death While "The Death That I Deservioli" is the theme song of _daring death to catch you if it can_

That earworm you pointed out in It's Pizza Time is a leitmotif that shows up damn near _everywhere._ Sauceman figured out _real_ quick that he had a hit on his hands and he put it to good use.
When SPG's eyes go wide you know that you're in for an amazing track. I love SO MUCH when SPG goes into nostalgia and talks about how the influence of the past make new interesting songs today. I really feel like I learn something every time he makes a video! This is so awesome! But of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from the mega awesome SPG!
it's worth noting that Death I Deservioli is also an escape theme alongside Pizza Time, Pizza Time being during the initial escape of fleeing back to the start of the level in like a three or so minute timer. Death I Deservioli plays if you decide to tempt fate and go for Lap 2, blasting your way through the level a second time with whatever's left on your clock, risking everything for that delicious P for Pizza. a Strong Escape Sequence for a loving Warioland-esque game
If you're a fan of jazz fusion, I think you'd like the soundtrack to Breath of Fire 3. It has an interesting jazzy element to it that I dig. Especially the song To A Distant Place, the second overworld theme.

It's Pizza Time is sooo good, but TDTID just hits absolutely different in game. Jumping into that Lap 2 portal and seeing that "P" pop up instead of an S, noticing you might not have enough time to make it to the end before showtime, and the banging of that Lap 2 bell is just pure perfection for a P rank buildup. I genuinely couldn't think of a better track to fit that feeling of orderly chaos.
Your analysis on the soundtrack is spot on! I'm in game development and music is always one of the most fun moments of the production. Hearing you exemplify and review a soundtrack I immediately felt was prize worthy is inspiring. And your additional "notes" also rock!
That section of It's Pizza Time where it gets really fast then winds down after a while reminds me a lot of how the PS1 rhythm game Vib-Ribbon liked to mess with tempo with the purpose of adding difficulty to the gameplay Particularly, it reminds me of the track "Overflowing Emotions", which similarly is mostly a pretty average and easy to follow tempo, until it hits a certain point, then it goes absolutely crazy

Pizza Tower has so many great songs, so far my favourites are Calzonification, Hot Spaghetti, Cold Spaghetti, Thousand March, Way Of The Pig, of course It's Pizza Time and The Death That I Deservioli, Yeehaw Deliveryboy, Oregano Mirage, Pizza Deluxe, Unexpectancy (which is like 9 minutes long), Pumpin' Hot Stuff and Pepperman Strikes so yeah... i'm in love with the soundtrack

C'mon man, please tell me you even considered the ULTRAKILL sound track. Heaven Pierce Her (Arsi "Hakita" Patala) really puts their effort into their sound track and really makes them fit into the game and memerable.
the thing about It's Pizza Time and The Death that I Deservioli, that i've seen among the community for Pizza Tower, is that "It's Pizza Time" is the theme of a man running from death, while "The Death That I Deservioli" only plays if you go BACK INTO the level, as sort of the game humoring you for having the audacity to *dare death to catch you if it can.*
Honestly, The Death I Deserveolli, i get Wolf Mother: Joker and The Thief's opener before it goes into a retro speed rock, which i love that cause it fits the motive behind the song, youre inviting the danger by being daring with it, taking a second lap around the entire map with a very short timer.
the game is based on basically most media from the 90's, this being reflected in the art style (think ren & stimpy, courage the cowardly dog stuff). this is why you hear so many nostalgic things in this soundtrack! unfortunately i don't experience this since i didn't exist then ;-; also the vvvvvv soundtrack is a really cool modern chiptune ost i recommend it a lot
that's some genuine enjoyment I see from that smile and body movement. the entirety of Pizza Tower is chalk-full of bops and bangers and I highly recommend checking out the rest of the ost. I'm happy you decided to react to some of the songs, this is definitely my GOTY.

If you're looking for something that explores quite a variety of musical inspirations, I might suggest checking out Freedom Planet 1 and 2. Both have strong Sonic influence but you can hear cues taken from many other styles. In the first game they kept that musical whiplash of going from Act 1 to Act 2 similar to Sonic 3&K, with complete tone shifts like "mystery" to "discovery" while keeping the same melody in Relic Maze, in the second game the artist admitted she wanted to have sets of stages being self-referential with melody to themselves, but reworks had her drop that idea (although it can still be heard in parts such as in Avian Museum). I love the mood change from Western of Dragon Valley 1 from FP1 to Space Western of Dragon Valley in FP2, giving me a strong Cowboy bebop feel. *cough* sorry I'm just enthusiast about music.
Its pretty crazy how all 3 of the songs are from the FIRST WORLD of Pizza Tower (It's Pizza Time: the theme that plays after you destroy the Pillar John. The Death that I Deservioli: the theme of Lap 2, the optional redo of the escape sequence. And of course Pepperman's theme aka the World 1 Boss)
at first i thought this was an ordinary clickbait style of video with a generic commentator, that was until i saw that you actually added on to the music with your own tribute, and i noticed how educated the commentary was on the music itself.
I love how this game's instrumentation is so varied. A single song will use traditional instrumentation, alongside chiptunes (I'm pretty sure both NES and GB are used, depends on the track-Pepperman's theme is definitely using a GB), samples, and nostalgic late 80s/early 90s synthesizer voices. It makes it definitely sound like a classic video game OST, but at the same time a modern one, playing at the same time in perfect harmony. It brings you back to 1992 but keeps you here in the present too, in a way that feels like it's expanding your ability to experience aural pleasure. Like, double the sweet tunes for the same low, low price. That's what it feels like to me.

I'm thinking of a Theme Song for my OC of this game; My OC's name is Pinella Coconut and I'm thinking of naming her theme "Hawaiian Hope". The reasons for that is 1 Pinella is a Hawaiian captured by Pizzahead and Pizzaface, who destroyed her bar during war-time(Peppino found newspaper of it while fighting in war), and 2 she regained hope when Peppino, the MC of the game freed her from her cell. the song would have unexpectancy motifs and notes usually heard in luaus; plus the feeling that's similar to the feeling "Part of that World" from Disney's Little Mermaid gave. I would happily be in PURE JOY if at least 1 of my OCs appear in at least 1 game! though I wouldn't know how to send them the picture or description of my OCs headcanons. :( oh well; a girl can dream. :D
Dude, PLEASE TELL ME YOU PLAN ON LOOK AT THE SOUNDTRACK FOR RISK OF RAIN 2. I do genuinely think you would adore the songs "They Might As Well Be Dead", "A Boat Made From a Sheet of Newspaper", "Koppen As F***", "...Con lentitude poderosa", and "You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele". The entire soundtrack is made by one man, Chris Christodoulou, and his style seems like something that would knock you out of your seat.
Each song in this game’s ost fits so well. They all have a reason, and it just flows. Either if you’re on the clock to get back to the entrance, or just relaxing in the stages. It all feels so good.
TDTID is a great song for the game purely from a context standpoint as well. It makes you feel epic for getting so far but also makes you feel tense just cause you’re rushed to escape the level. Great song.
It’s worth mentioning that the game samples a ton of sounds from WarioLand 4, which itself was insanely impressive for sampling so many sound effects and cramming them all into one game boy advance cartridge. Game recognizes game.

what I love about Pizza Time is that it always makes me feel panicked and tense, but never out of control or helpless in it.
its a tension with direction rather than feeling helpless.
which makes it more fun to blast through levels once you can ride that tension with confidence rather than wade through it with confusion

Its pretty crazy how all 3 of the songs are from the FIRST WORLD of Pizza Tower (It's Pizza Time: the theme that plays after you destroy the Pillar John. The Death that I Deservioli: the theme of Lap 2, the optional redo of the escape sequence. And of course Pepperman's theme aka the World 1 Boss)
at first i thought this was an ordinary clickbait style of video with a generic commentator, that was until i saw that you actually added on to the music with your own tribute, and i noticed how educated the commentary was on the music itself.

I love how this game's instrumentation is so varied. A single song will use traditional instrumentation, alongside chiptunes (I'm pretty sure both NES and GB are used, depends on the track-Pepperman's theme is definitely using a GB), samples, and nostalgic late 80s/early 90s synthesizer voices. It makes it definitely sound like a classic video game OST, but at the same time a modern one, playing at the same time in perfect harmony. It brings you back to 1992 but keeps you here in the present too, in a way that feels like it's expanding your ability to experience aural pleasure. Like, double the sweet tunes for the same low, low price. That's what it feels like to me.

As a guitar player, you'll really enjoy the soundtrack as it's got a lot of metal and grunge guitar mixed with techno with the occasional powerful orchestra and it sounds awesome. songs I would recommend would be: light and darkness(Ism), Yakuza 0 opening theme, Fly and Baka Mitai

I'm thinking of a Theme Song for my OC of this game; My OC's name is Pinella Coconut and I'm thinking of naming her theme "Hawaiian Hope". The reasons for that is 1 Pinella is a Hawaiian captured by Pizzahead and Pizzaface, who destroyed her bar during war-time(Peppino found newspaper of it while fighting in war), and 2 she regained hope when Peppino, the MC of the game freed her from her cell. the song would have unexpectancy motifs and notes usually heard in luaus; plus the feeling that's similar to the feeling "Part of that World" from Disney's Little Mermaid gave. I would happily be in PURE JOY if at least 1 of my OCs appear in at least 1 game! though I wouldn't know how to send them the picture or description of my OCs headcanons. :( oh well; a girl can dream. :D

I do genuinely think you would adore the songs "They Might As Well Be Dead", "A Boat Made From a Sheet of Newspaper", "Koppen As F***", "...Con lentitude poderosa", and "You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele".
The entire soundtrack is made by one man, Chris Christodoulou, and his style seems like something that would knock you out of your seat.

With content in it's pizza time! The fact that you're in a rush and it gets harder when the song ends the tension really nicely works together.

TDTID is a great song for the game purely from a context standpoint as well. It makes you feel epic for getting so far but also makes you feel tense just cause you’re rushed to escape the level. Great song.

It’s worth mentioning that the game samples a ton of sounds from WarioLand 4, which itself was insanely impressive for sampling so many sound effects and cramming them all into one game boy advance cartridge. Game recognizes game.

The game uses another extremely 90's orchestra hit noise similar to the one in it's pizza time for the sound effect of the taunt/parry move
some LEVEL songs i would like to see next time are Tombstone Arizona (for Wasteyard), Thousand March (for WAR), and, i kid you not, this one is called "Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play" (for a level called Refrigerator-Refrigerador-Freezerator). these are my three favorite level songs so i would love to hear what you think of them!
