    Great job man and seriously don"t beat yourself up so much over not getting views or general popularity. You have a special loooooong-standing cult following on the internet much in the vein of Mega64 and its something not many people have. As long as you do what you love the fans will always be there and will support you through anything. You're not some nobody clickbait youtuber that gets dropped when the new thing comes along. A lot of us are hadrcore and have watched you for over a decade, including me. So relax dude, doing what you love is all you can do, and the fans will always be there.

      liddddddd is right. I'm obviously not the only one who hates not seeing even more appreciation and success for you over the years, because like so many people here, I feel like you are insanely talented and criminally underrated. I don't have an artistic bone in my body. Maybe that just makes me appreciate what you do more. It's always been clear that you love what you do and enjoy making people happy, but I find myself sincerely hoping that you are regularly reminded that what you do has a deeply profound and positive impact on our lives. It's important. It matters. It means so much.
      I'm going to ramble, get all deep and touchy feely here. So strap in...
      It's hard to believe that I first discovered you dance videos 7 years ago. But in that 7 years I been "having a lot of trouble in my life, emotionally speaking". I've been to some really dark places. I've gone between panic attacks, or felt like I was constantly going to have one, and feeling deeply depressed and completely numb. I've been lucky enough to never feel so completely hopeless that I wanted to die, or completely give up. But I did end up at the point last year of finally getting so run down, from all the stress, all the emotional pain, years of lack of sleep, that my body started physically breaking down. My body started turning all the emotional pain and stress into physical pain, and everything started to go haywire. I literally could no longer drag myself out of bed anymore. I'm not going to be overdramatic and be all like "OMG YOU SAVED MY LIFE!" But you've have made me smile hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands of times. You have made me feel an immense sense of joy that has brought me to tears on days where I thought I couldn't feel anything good anymore, or when I felt like I couldn't, or didn't want to, feel ANYTHING anymore. After nearly ten years of subjecting myself to that feeling of being blown across the room, over and over again, lather, rinse, repeat. After just under a decade of making every excuse possible for continually saying "I can't give up". After having to become completely delusional to convince myself of those words. After spending nearly a third of my life miserable, I'm finally moving on, making better choices, learning to value myself, and just all around doing and feeling lot better. The last few months, as things have gotten better, I've found myself going back and watch a lot of your videos, especially those earlier dance videos, and enjoying them all over again with more joy than ever. But this film man...I don't even know what to say. I've been bawling like a baby since 11:11. By the end the tears were joined by a smile so big my face actually hurts. The imagery of being blown backwards across the room. It seems so simple, but I have never seen that feeling embodied in a more perfect way. Anyway...just, thank you. Thank you for everything. Thank you for being you, thank you for being awesome. Thank you for sharing your art and life with us. I hope that you get a chance to read this, and I hope if you ever have a day when it's just really fucking hard to smile, that you can remember how much pure damn joy you have brought to so many people. I hope it fuels you to keep making art, and I hope that you have a deep sense of pride and accomplishment that puts a smile on your face every day for the rest of your life. Thank you. A thousand fucking times thank you.

      Jeebus, yes. The "magic realism" display of moments of pain/rejection hit me in the feels, esp. when she turned away from him in bed. And totally stuntastic, of course. If his spinning/reeling body comes back into play as he saves her from physical harm (foreshadowing moment of zen), I would lose my poo. The full circle of "The pain my ex caused me planted the seed of desire to move on with meaning," would hit hard.

    Then with your music videos I loved the small touches you made, with the smooth edits between locations to form a single dance, the costume changes with smooth transitions and so much more

    Nathan, that was amazing... I found the entire thing so engaging, and I think you've done a brilliant job using the dialogue and visuals to convey the story and the emotions of the characters.
    It speaks volumes of this work that in the span of 21 minutes you convinced me to care about the characters, sympathize with an emotional trauma (even get a little teary-eyed, I'm not ashamed of it), and leave feeling hopeful and happy about where they end up.
    I know I said it already, but this was an amazing short film.

    I honestly don't know what to say that hasn't already been said here: I really enjoyed the characters and their unspoken, tragically comic Bonnie & Clyde vibe, and felt disappointment that the film had come to an end when it did. If there are in fact two sequels in the works, then count me as eager to see them.

    I´ve always loved your happy videos but this one took the price, this is an all-time-winner of shortfilms, it´s extremely subtle but yet filled with so much more. As everyone else already written, the throwbacks in life, you portrayed it beautifully. The car running for itself as a symbol for your heart pumping again, so wonderfully displayed. This is by far one of the best shortmovie I´ve ever seen. Keep it up Nathan.

    The slow-motion scenes are incredible. They do so much for the pacing, and I really, really appreciate when films have built-in meditation time for the audience so that you can either reflect on what's already happened or just surrender to the moment in front of you. They're magical and so emotionally resonant.
    And that's another thing I loved about this short, too -- that powerful melancholy emotions were portrayed in surreal physicality. Lots of times sorrow is presented in an understated way, like it's a compact kernel buried inside the actors or the scenes which shows only through the cracks. Some rain, some quiet tears, an empty room, washed-out colors... that kind of thing. Instead, the artistic decision to represent the feelings at the end of a relationship that had just faded over time (as opposed to exploded dramatically) with both parties more or less resigned to the inevitability in such an open, visceral way was a refreshingly powerful honesty. Loved it.

      @Nathan.Barnatt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      keyglyph I’m glad you thought all that. That’s something I did not want this to feel like. I didn’t wanna do any cliche emotional imagery. I wanted to try and show sadness in a new way. I was afraid people may think this movie was “emo” or cheesy but so far I think it has avoided those.

  • @Flea_ip

    The reason why I love this is because it *shows* passion. And I mean passion behind the writing, directing, cinemetography, and other things. This movie was made because of desire and passion. And I feel like we just don't see that much anymore. Movies these days are made to make money. Sure, it's great for a movie like this TO MAKE money, but you can tell that's not the primary reason. And it's beautiful.

    This movie is also fitting because it shows what true love is like vs just love. Been watching for years, laughing at all the characters and dances along the way, from Trale, Ray Amsley or even the skits like LE MANNNNNS. I loved them. Still do. But this video was more of an in love with the character and story telling. If you do end up making more to this storyline and go the crowd funding route, I'll make sure you'll have enough for a 2nd bag of peanuts ;) Cheers from Edmonton, keep up the great work, Nathan!

    Nathan, you are truly one of the world most overlooked artists... so much so it almost feels like by design. How your videos aren't steeped in views is beyond a comfortable explanation. With no dialog you're the physical embodiment of funny. Your writing is self aware, your cinematography is inspiring, and looking at the many channels over many years... your work ethic is intimidating. We're a very small outfit at the moment but I hope there comes a day that Comedy Carousel can be there for you. You're the full package. Writer, performer, producer, director... thank you for your contribution to this planet. I might say break a leg, but research indicates that you've already done that.

    As much as I enjoy this film I have to mention at points the dialog can be strange. Its not poor acting its just the wording is a tad off on some of the more serious scenes. Outside of that tho I cant see anything wrong. The cinematography is amazing and the slow-mo parts are not only beautiful but breath taking in visual story telling. The stunt work with you and the car is even more impressive when you see just how fast the car is moving. The comedy is well written and the softer dramatic moments work out very well. For (what I understand) your first non-strictly comedy based short film this is awe-inspiring and the rough kinks of this can and clearly be worked out when you do more writting. I really hope this blows up or is seen by the right people because I would love to see the rest of the story you have for these two.
