It is same as group by and windows function in SQL
Hi Sir, I tried to create the measure using sameperiodlastyear. when I created a tabular visual i couldn't see the previous year values to compare with current year. but i can see the sum correctly for both measures .what could be problem that previous year values are not visible.

Sir i have one doubt let us consider our table has 2 sales value for same catagory.
lets say watches if I put the category in table if I don't apply measure then what would be sales still it will sum up 2 values in table
or it will pick up value of first watches row
If you don’t use measure then it will show only distinct values of category. If you use measure then it is sim up and show the value

i have tried to analyze last year data with current year data just like you shown.. here i tried to convert the sale date column as date data type and not used [sale date].[date]
i have used [sale date] directly in the sameperiodlastyear function.. it is not showing any data in the lastyear column of the table visual.. later i used [sale date].[date] as you shown then it worked..
why should we use this .[date] even the type of data is date?

.Date should be used when you refer a date column (which will create a small table for each date column) so you need to refer .Date to refer a date column.

In direct query, measure and calculate column is possible. In live connection only calculated column

Sir, sameperiodlastyear is not working for me .. It is Prev year sales = CALCULATE(sum([Sales Amount]),SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR(Data[Sale date])) coming in my power BI desktop . ".date" is not coming and showing error.

Facing same issue after creating date table in ADVANCED EDITOR. After creating date table not able to add .DATE after sale date. It shows syntax for 'DATE' is incorrect. Kindly explain this .

but got different values...

I hope you seeing the earliest year-month for that it will be blank. Check the latest year month combination.
