    I haven't had a single migraine since I went plant based over a year ago. I used to get 1 to 3 per month and they were debilitating. If this was the only benefit I got from the diet change, it would be worth it, but of course I got so much more. Losing the migraines was an even bigger benefit than the weight loss, not even kidding.

    As a very long-term migraine sufferer, I've found quitting caffeine to be the single most beneficial thing I have done. It's important to quit slowly and steadily over a period of 2-4 weeks to avoid a withdrawal migraine but in the long run it is so worth it. That includes caffeine from all sources: tea, coffee, green/white/matcha tea, chocolate, painkillers, etc. Dairy is also a trigger for me but it is a very obvious trigger. Caffeine is a more insidious trigger that builds up in the background and renders me sensitive to other triggers, e.g. barometric pressure, sourdough bread, the smell of paint and varnish, and so on. Without caffeine in my system, I am less sensitive to other triggers (except dairy, to which I am always sensitive). Decaffeinated drinks are OK for me (some people might be sensitive to those, too, and I can be occasionally) but there are other, non-caffeinated, beverages that are enjoyable, e.g. Teeccino herbal coffee, rooibos tea with soya milk, etc.

    Now I’ve cut out sugar and my headaches are much better.

    Ages ago, my workplace had someone selling donuts and pastries. I loved my daily maple bar, but knew it was unhealthy and making me gain weight. I quit eating them and I felt kind of sick and foggy for awhile. I think, when we change our eating drastically, it can make us feel kind of bad for awhile. Maybe it’s like breaking an addiction to drugs. You feel crappy until you’re body adjusts.

    I get headaches from whatever apples grown in Washington state are coated with to sell in big box stores. Ate a plastic 5 pound bag of Michigan Smaller Gold Delicious Apples two at a time and no problem. Gala apples from my mom's retirement home and the headaches after several days of eating apples.

    QUESTION:
    I usually get a 2-5 day long headache the week or days before my period (but not while I'm menstruating) what could be the cause of this type of headache and what can help prevent them?
    Thanks 😊

      It could be multiple issues, like dehydration, iron depletion, protein losses, etc. caused by the thickening of the lining. Realize that it's a lot of blood that's lost, along with lots of nutrients that you're body's putting into it That's a big drain if you're not properly compensating for those inadequacies. Very likely the extra blood building the lining means less to the head - which means more vasoconstriction there, which leads to throbbing headaches. Those throbbing headaches might not even be throbbing, they could be pinching, etc. types too. So I would say the solution is to feed cravings and eat a lot more to help alleviate these issues. Another issue might be if you are eating more, you could possibly eat more foods that contribute to headaches - triggers, which could of course create the headaches too. I'm no doctor, but I know what I know about what's right for myself.

    I feel so lucky that I rarely have headaches, not even light ones. If I have a lot of alcohol (only on special occasions) and don’t sleep enough, then my head feels heavy the day after, but it’s not a pain - I just need a lot of rest and water. Last time I had a headache was in 2020 when I had my first Covid - then everything hurt, even my teeth and toes. Otherwise, no pain at all - I don’t even have painkillers at home. I’m almost 47 and I’ve been vegan for 14 years, mostly whole foods. I consume everyday for breakfast coffee with no sugar, hummus, organic tofu, avocado, mix of seeds and nutricional yeast on brown or rye bread, then for dinner is usually tofu and a variety of veggies + chickpeas or lentils ou quinoa. And for dessert usually 85% to 100% dark chocolate melted and mixed with banana and berries. I do eat a vegan cake / croissant / vegan UPF once or twice a week as a treat. I don’t drink soda at all - I’ve always hated the taste of it. I’m also active, I walk a lot and I practice capoeira. A healthy plant based diet also eliminated all the period cramps and discomfort, which was a life change for me ❤

    I noticed a headache coming and going if i ate apples and bannanas as a teen. Was strange feeling how the banana headache felt different than the apples. In my twenties switching back and forth with organic produce, cost allowing. Discovered it only happens with non organic apples and bannanas. Later in life i was a produce clerk for a while, where i learned that bananas are put in a sealed fridge room. Then to trigger the ripening process that was denied to them when they were picked green by harvesters. The room is pumped full of a chemical gas triggering the ripening process. Which is done to reduce shipping cost and extended shelf life. In nature the tree would send a naturally made signal to the fruit to ripen.
    Now a days i always buy certain produce organic. Some produce you can feel a headache forming after consumption of a whole pint or several pieces but some even with the taste alone being enough to clue you in.

    salt cured some of my headaches, but what really cured all of them is vitamin D. But taking too much triggers headaches, so I switched to the unripe green stage fruit of the camphor tree, along with its leaves. The seeds do nothing. Camphor might be carnicogenic, but I'd take that risk on if it saves me months of headaches. The thing is that most foods we eat have camphor, like lavender, so it's not a big deal.

    Sounds like he is just promoting low-fat vegan diet. I agree that eating more plants and minimal processed foods but I don't think vegan is the answer, I don't feel good when I don't eat meat, and yes I was vegan for 2 years and ended up getting diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I think because I was not eating enough fat and protein. I get migraines. what has worked for me is magnesium glycinate 800-1200mg, suggested by my neurologist, less/ no added sugar, minimally processed and gluten free. Finally, I realize that everyone is different.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      it really depends on what you're eating. Not everything is going to be healthy for vegan foods. Soy and wheat contribute significantly to my pains, so if you ate those, likely you could've gotten that too. Chlorophyll is rich in magnesium - why not eat more greens? I don't get why you have to go back to meat just for that.

      I’ve been vegan for 14 years and my breakfast contains a lot of fat and protein - hummus, avocado, tofu, a mixed of seeds, nutritional yeast (and sometimes I add tahini too) on brown or rye bread. This breakfast makes me feel so energised and full for hours. My HDL cholesterol is high and my LDL is low

    I’m new to this (coming from the low carb/keto space). I’m having knee pain and joint pain in my hands. Are there certain WFPB foods that help this please?

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      it depends on what that is. If it's due to damaging your body with animal products to where you accumulated uric acid there, it's citrus and apples that'll alleviate it. If it's dehydration, then likely eating more raw and drinking more water helps. I literally don't know why your knees are in pain, but maybe with more clarification on your end, this can be easier to figure out.

      I’ve been wfpb for seven years and have been getting the arthritis pain in my hands and now it seems to be in my back and hips. I’m 69 and my mother had and siblings have the same problems. I’ve been trying vinegar and omega 3 supplements. Also trying a vegan glucosamine supplement. It seems like this diet helps with many autoimmune problems but haven’t heard much about osteoarthritis.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      when I was a kid, back when I ate animal products - I had arthritic conditions. My family said it's because I'm young, I'll grow out of it. I didn't 'grow out of it', I cleaned up my diet. My knees were bad from biking. My parents are the same way when they try veganism, but I see that they don't eat properly, but instead eat the wrong foods.
      vinegar's really bad - it turned my parent's bones to jelly before I told them to stop (I told them to never start, they never listened to me). Because you are destroying your body with vinegar, have you thought about taking MSM? That's what healed up all my joints and stuff. You stop taking it after you're healed. After that, then you maintain it with glucosamine, but glucosamine doesn't work if there's no joint left but damage.@@robinsaxophone232

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well the simplest fix is just to stretch it out!
      oh I wanted to say - I told the other person who has the same issues as you - that I used to have these issues as a kid when I ate animal products. My family said I'll grow out of it, but it was getting worse. Only when I changed my diet did it improved.
      I thought back and remembered the food that healed my joints, especially my knee was msm. After your body's healed, then you can continue with glucosamine.
      I also wonder if people are low in vitamin k2, because without that, I can't be vegan - my whole body falls apart, but I don't feel it has to do with joints.
      Anyway - whatever you do - avoid vinegar. The other person did that, but it's bad.@@Ranch-girl
      That's my experience and thoughts - I'm no doctor, but these are 1st hand experiences.
