Winning rider Willie Robinson passed away in the summer at the grand age of 86. Forever associated with Gold Cup winner and Arkle's great rival Mill House.

R.I.P. to Paddy Farrell, who fractured his spine when Border Flight fell at The Chair in this race. That fall only paralysed him, however his plight did highlight the dearth of support for injured race jockeys, which led to the creation of what is now the Injured Jockey Fund. He sadly passed away aged 69 on the 22nd of October, 2011.

I was eleven and put a shilling on Team Spirit i thought i had lost but everybody watching in my Mum and Dads flat said i had won. They were right , i bought a big red plastic fire engine and received one penny change as i had a price of 20 to 1 such happy simple times.

Never heard POS give a winner so many mentions mid-race. Almost like he had the housekeeping on it.

The loose horse who led across the line was Lizawake who became a regular over the famous Hickstead show jumps and if you listen closely approaching the third and over the fourth you can just hear Michael o'Hehir doing the radio commentarh

Bob Haynes must have thought he was more superior than Peter Montague Evans as on the second circuit he hands over to him simply by surname lol. Probably how it was in them days.

I have lots of old VHS tapes from 80s & 90s of old NH races. Some of those races I know have already been uploaded by others but if anybody can make use of them, I will gladly post them to somebody so they can be uploaded on to youtube.
