Less than a minute in and already getting warnings that this cutesy looking game is actually gonna be nightmare fuel.........perfect, let me get some coffee, helps push the inevitable tears away.
I have to admit, I wasn't expecting to see this series to actually have a game made. Seems pretty interesting... despite the incredibly horrifying and depressing setting masked by it's incredible beauty. Looking forward to seeing how this goes for you.
I feel the same way. I love Made in Abyss. It's probably the most beautiful manga I've read and I expect it will hold that title for a long while. I was pumped when I saw this game was happening and getting an English release. One of the reasons I wanted to play it here is because I want more people to see it. It's such a faithful recreation of the world. If you have seen the source material, you'll enjoy all the little details the game has.
The Curse of the Abyss sounds a lot like a combo of Altitude/Decompression sickness, maybe oxygen deprivation and just straight up being crushed by gravity as you go too deep, but instead of laws of nature its powered by magic maguffin
After watching this game series several months ago, I decided to watch the anime, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Thank you! Now that I've mostly forgotten the game's plot, I think I'll play it once I finish watching the animu.
This curse of the abyss sounds like Fantasy Bends (especially that nebulous "losing humanity" part as we all know divers are supernatural creatures) although knowing manga this is probably intentional. 8:58 Ahh yes, I was suspicious of these very small children being sent into the cave but now it makes sense. This is just Mystery Dungeon Gundam; I'm assuming we'll become Cavetypes too by the end of this. 9:46 I'm thinking we might need an orphan's union or something. Maybe we can organize. I'm sure there would be no untoward consequences such as being thrown into the hell pit. 20:58 Was not expecting quick time events in this all of all things.
Oh man, I've been on the fence about this one for a while. Maybe watching a few episodes will help loosen my wallet--I really like the concept, at the very least.
JP voices are by the original anime cast and no, they do a much better job than the dub actors. They're more natural and grounded, not as exaggerated. There is a voice language option, in case you were wondering.
So rising up from the depths gives you various versions of the bends, including guaranteed death rising up from level 6 or so, so…that means it is impossible to retrieve anything from level 6, regardless of how precocious you are. Right? Unless someone volunteers to die in a sort of relay race where the go to level 6 and die passing loot along to someone who waits for them at level 3 and only gets herpies or something.
The curse of the abyss is no joke at those lowest layers. As far as I know, they still use mail balloons and similar to relay messages and things. With the mysteries in the abyss, there are likely other ways it happens too.
Oof, that voice acting. ;-; Riko's genuine excitement for mystery and adventure doesn't really come across in the dub, I don't think. She sounds a bit nuts, tbh.
It always felt like Made in Abyss was meant to be a video game world. A story about a brutal and unforgiving mega dungeon with incredible music and animation was a welcome surprise. It's unfortunate that the author keeps finding any excuse he can to put his degenerate fetishes into the story. Nothing can be perfect though.

22:04 Aurora borealis?! At this time of year, at this time of day, at this level of The Abyss, localized entirely within this petrified forest?
Yes.

Orphan's union 😂 Perfect for this sick sad world for sure.

Those poor stoats, first murdered on the quest to power.
They really made Riko moan every time she descend rocks huh. I hope the JP voice doesn't do this. Also at 4:00 she said it and im losing it

@@lethalfeline But the fact remains that once you get below a certain level, you can't get back out? I guess I'll watch and find out.
Ok, that kid is either Mega Man or Geno....I'm leaning Geno. Edit: and then he said it.
Oof, that voice acting. ;-;
