Brilliant idea! If only they still have a dipstick tube, you can use a fluid extractor, which they use for Audis. Then again, you have to differentiate a Porsche. Thanks for sharing
Michael, Great video! I want to do this project. You said you drilled a 4.5" hole. I have looked online for a 4.5" marine access panel but only seem to find 4" and 6". Where did you purchase you access panel from? Thank you!
It's absolutely criminal that Porsche didn't add an access door, especially on the '17 S since the oil filter and drain plug are literally right next to each other.
I took out the front screws that hold it onto the car and was able to bend it down with the back screws still on. I marked where the panel meet the drain plug with a red pencil mark. I also measured with a tape measure to double check.
the reason for not having a hole there is to make you take the pan off and clean up any leaking oil and to verify if anything else is leaking, you do not want any liquids accumulating on the top of the pan...

Michael,
I found the link for the access panel on your oil change comments. Thanks again very nice videos you're a credit to all shade tree mechanics!
This is brilliant indeed! Not sure why Porsche doesn't do this even for themselves. Image how much less work for them.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback. Yes, it saves me a ton of time and I’ll change the oil more often because of how easy it is.
Our Macan S has a bottom loader oil filter so need access for that too. Unfortunately means the belly pan will have to come off for my oil changes.
What an awesome solution to make oil changes a breeze
It's an excellent DIY design
Any chance this would void the warranty?
I know it's been a year but, would still like to know where you purchased this access panel? Thanks!

Nice videos but it would be more informative if you reference the parts numbers and details of the hardware and parts used.
That’s brilliant!
Very interesting! How many screws would you have to remove to access the drain plug in the traditional method?
I believe it is about 15
@@michaelsantino2023 Wow, 15. That's crazy. Thanks for the quick reply. Cheers!

@michaelsantino2023 can you please provide link to the 2nd access panel with screws?

how did your mark the center of the hole against the drain plug?

don't you need another one to access the oil filter?
Nope. For the 2021 GTS the oil filter is under the hood, so this works out perfect!!
Thanks for that information. I have a 2015 Macan S, I still need to take the belly pan off, to access the filter, otherwise, I liked what you did! 😉
Porsche, you paying attention to this?
