Hey Richard I have been watching this channel for about a year now big congratulations on 100k can’t wait to see even more content and to finally buy a shirt! I would like to ask a huge favor as well; I am a 17 year old Year 12 student from the US and I would love some help investing. Currently I put around 50% of my “income” (I work 15 hours a week baby sitting) into my portfolio. I am invested in only individual stocks the majority in renewable energy and infrastructure companies with respectable dividends that are enrolled in DRIP this goes along with a few less popular tech stocks that my unqualified but thorough research have led me to take a chance on. How should I diversify in terms of ETFs, Bond, and Mutual Funds if I am ok with more risk since I have plenty of time before retirement? Also how would you recommend I split my investment short term position higher risk endeavors vs. longer lower return positions given my age? Sorry for the wall of text! Once again thanks so much for all of the interesting valuable information I am headed to university next year to study marketing/finance and sales so this channel has further peaked my interest in the industry. Hi Quinn, unfortunately I'm unable to give any direct advice, but a rule of thumb in the industry for your split between equity and fixed income (bonds) is 100 - your age. The younger you are, the more your typically able to invest in stocks. As to your mix between ETFs, Mutual funds and individual stocks, that's a harder question to answer, but you just need to find a balance that works for you. If you have the time to research stocks and the money available to properly diversify, individual stocks are certainly viable. ETFs are very popular for investors of all sizes, but they are useful for first-timers since they take away a lot of the work; same goes for mutual funds, although you need to keep an eye on fees. Sorry I can't be more direct, but I hope this helps! Thanks for the comment!
