"They find each other like lyrics find words." This is one of the most beautiful sentences I have ever heard, spoken so eloquently from such an amazing soul. Absolutely extraordinary in every way.
??!? lyrics = words. Your comment is nonsensical
In another interview she says almost the same thing when asked about Cinderella, she meant "like lyrics finds music". It happens sometimes to make little mistakes when speaking in public.
She can also become a brilliant speaker.
She must come from money or perhaps conservatively raised parents. She has a way about her, very composed, controlled, and civilized. Very disciplined in many ways. Rare these days.
She is lovely, and yes, she's already a calm speaker with some eloquence.
It seems as though this little girl’s whole world has been music, from the womb onward. We would see a lot more young composers if they were all raised this way. Music 🎼 AM to PM. She is quite impressive, but I think her parents have a lot todo with it. The way Alma lifts her hands from the piano when she has finished playing and the expressions on her face and movements of her body while she plays ; these are all learned from watching other musicians. She is off to a brilliant start.
@@SolidSiren Alma's parents are both University professors her father's a professor of linguistics and has a degree in mathematics her mother is a professor of early English literature. She has a younger sister 3 years younger who was also extremely good on violin. Her music teachers are university professors of music in Switzerland and Chicago. Use Skype and linkef pianos.
@@davidfryer9218 that has nothing to do with her performance here but thanks
@@davidfryer9218 Guy Deutscher is a famous linguist. Note that Alma speaks “The Queen’s English”.
From what I can see AND hear, the majority of the audience appear to have NO idea that they are literally in the presence of a genius;
a remarkably composed, exceptionally well spoken young lady who would have Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, et al sitting in rapt silence
as Alma describes the development of her latest opera or piano concerto..........what a gift to the world, she is absolutely brilliant!
You are correct. The audience have been electroshocked and drugged and made to wait 17 days for water. This is the only explanation for their incredible lack of comprehension, if I were to be generous.
As an empath, Alma moves me to tears - she’s absolutely brilliant! However, folks here need to stop expecting everyone in the audience to be spellbound by her. We are all cut from a different cloth - so please stop expecting others to think, feel, behave, respond, and react as you do. What resonates with you may not resonate with someone else. For example, someone may be crazy about golf, while someone else may find it boring. Someone may love heavy metal music, while someone else prefers rap. Someone may love ballet, while someone else prefers belly dancing, etc.
Stand up you pompous fools! Nothing less than a standing ovation for this incredible composer!
Ainsley Mcleod Ummm..Steven Hawking can’t stand up.
no need to stand up for yet another violin playing jewess. she plays the same schubert piece in every interview!! she should have a bigger variety if she is such a "genius"
@@olavwilhelm6843 fuck you and the horse you rode in on.
"Jewess"???? Can you play Shubert's "The Bee"? That's just a training exercise to Alma Deutscher.
God damn you sir! The one God did not consider a difference. Only YOU came up with that craziness.
FUCK YOU!!!!!!
@@jmaxg Don't give the trolls air. Just keep focused on what we're here for: Alma.
@@olavwilhelm6843 Prejudiced, ignorant of Alma's facts, and plain stupid comment.
She expresses herself so well with a rich vocabulary
Leslie Torres Her father is a noted linguistics scholar.
Her face reflects her love for music as she plays.
Thank God there are people like Alma to counterbalance the lunacy and idiocy of our time. What a wonderfully bright spark she is! Bravissimo!
Alma is utterly enchanting, very articulate, and amazingly sophisticated for her age.Her parents must be so proud of her. I mean, you rarely see children presenting themselves the way Alma does, with such style and panache.
Guy and Janie are the PERFECT parents for Alma. They brought into this world a musical genius and have done a tremendous job nurturing her talent. Alma is a national treasure!
Well... there are very few children (and adults) like her.
What a marvel.
She is famous now l think
StationOfdreams I agree ! She’s like an enchanting alien in this world !! So Graceful and the expression on her face as she plays music shows how she really feels it. I love it !
I only discovered Alma just last night. Stayed up half the night watching many of her videos. I am at a loss for any other words except astonishing! One of her stated goals is to change the world. For those of us fortunate enough to have witnessed her talents (and there are many), she's achieved her goal. And as one other poster on a different video clip stated, "I'm beginning to believe in the human race again." Me too!
I just found her today. Doing the same thing
I know you wrote that 5 years ago, but I just discovered her today. Going through the same reaction. Shes unbelievable, And adorable too.
@@t.e.1189 Indeed she is. Glad you are enjoying her. Happy Holidays!
WOW. This is more than just an insane amount of talent. Only two words really fit: WORLD PRODIGY. We are in the midst of someone perhaps even greater than Mozart.
Born in the right place, right time and right parents. So much of the brilliance of children gets lost because of poor parenting.
Generation after generation of mediocrity breeding mediocrity because to stand out like this girl does invites being put down by the sufferers of "Tall poppy syndrome." Yes, children have to hide their talents rather than rejoice in them. Showing off is forbidden. Alma is showing us the potential of humans to excel.
@maseratic boychik Totally agree. Mozart was taken to concerts and surrounded with music right from the cradle.
How precious, she said, I skip in the garden with little sister. She's an angel dropped down from heaven, Classical music always seemed to intrigue me. She's too good for words, god bless You child.
Her comprehension and articulation of her music is just as mature as the music itself. Violin and piano concert quality. Composition master, arranger and singer. She is a remarkable little girl.
Just remarkable? "She already has everything that cannot be learned" (Daniel Barenboim). Believe me, she's a force of nature, in many senses, just comparable with Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin ...
And speaks Hebrew and German fluently.
Im completely speachless! This little precious girl is beyond amazing! She has already changed the world!
Tracy Wilson a female Chopin Mozart Brahms all in one minus the deficits
She's very very smart. Teardrops in my eyes. Overwhelmed.
The duet brought tears to my eyes. She is wonderfully talented. How could she not get a standing ovation from that audience? I hope to follow her for years.
This was not only a very well thought out and insightful interview, but also such a gift to listen to a young person speak so powerfully and sing and perform so beautifully. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
I like how at the end of the video, when they finish their duet, she waits for the presenter before taking her bow. Sweet.
Such lovely manners she has!
I am truly flabbergasted by the strength of her compositions and her abilities as a player. I think one day when people think of classical music composers they will think of Alma Deutscher among them.

this is what it must have been like 200 + years ago when young Mozart was traveling with his dad astounding folks ... I was so surprised when the host took out her violin... She's quite good as well!!
It must have been very intimidating to play with a world class violinist like Alma but she did very well!
yes
Apparently she’s a pro.
I heard Almas mother play the piano, very well. But Alma think she is a amateur. So maybe she think this of this lady also. But kind hearted Alma plays also with amateurs to make them happy.
Wow! That brought tears to my eyes. This little darling does not just play with her fingers. Watching her mind body and soul pour out this music is recalling something. SHE DOESN'T JUST PLAY THE MUSIC SHE IS THE MUSIC! This isn't even the type of music I listen to. I am a rock n roller but oh man this is special.
Really something not recalling something....or both
Oh, my goodness - what a talented musician. I am quite impressed with her musicianship, her intelligence, her creativity, her joyful love of music. I hope she is still this eager, happy and productive eighty years from now. All the best, Alma!
Alma is so amazing!! Her articulation, her creativity, her sense of herself is so heavenly and beyond her years. Sometimes, very rarely, God sends us a miracle, an angel to show us what he can do. Amazing, sublimely beautiful.
It never ceases to amaze me how when the camera pans across the audience, there are a few disinterested souls contained therein.
How in the presence of such a gift from God could anyone possibly be disinterested?
Alma is brilliant in every way. From the manner she expresses herself through both speech and music, this is one incredible child.
How fortunate we are to all be living in a time to see something so rare as her on you tube.

Good point. Never thought of that angle.

There’s no denying that. 😉
Well done Alma!!

I'm sure you are right !!! The Mozart's soul stays in the mind from this fabulous young girl !!!... Incredible !!!
Old soul indeed. Even in language, words chosen far beyond her years. Incarnation comes to mind. who are we really watching in this child's body? Who was made to cook and knit instead of using their gift in the past? Crazy amazing. When a child of 10 can say something took "years." Well I just smile. Listening to her describe her day, when does she go to school? She is clearly highly educated as well.
Daniel, the only history are the idiot replies of a girl who's pretty, and talks polite, she's no Mozart, she talks far better than she can play anything. Youth goes by fast, soon you won't even know who she is. But you sure know the name J.S. Bach, 200 years later, don't you now! 100 years from now, Alma will be some kind of soap you put on your face to clear achne.

Alma in Spanish means soul. How appropriate; because Alma is a beautiful “soul”
Lots of people think that the difficult bit of composing is to get the idea but actually that just comes to me the difficult bit is then to sit down with that idea to develop it, to combine it with other ideas in a coherent way. its just very easy to throw a soup of lots of ideas which don't make any sense together but to sit down and develop and combine it and afterwards to tweak it and to polish it. that takes ages sometimes even years...WELL yes that comes from a 10 year old shes one of the most genius kids ive ever come to see in this era.
+PPplubploy - Yes, she knows about composing at 10 what other musicians don't learn until their forties or fifties. Brilliant mind.
PPplubploy Maestro and pianist Daniel Barenboim says of Alma, "what can't be taught, she already has."
"Lots of people think that the difficult bit of composing is to get the idea"
true, but only people who don't write music think that.
as a songwriter, i can say that sometimes an idea will smolder for years until it finally is developed into a song.
Gives me the chills the brilliance of this child..I'm a composer (of classical music and a song writer), and her words, and music playing had me at the edge of my seat! Imagine what we humans would know, in music etc.. if we would just stop unlimiting ourselves and truly believe in the impossible, like this little girl has.
"Everyone's a genius." -Einstein
Her ability to articulate the process is impressive but the process itself it the same for most art forms. Many children go through a similar process when drawing or attempting to create a rocket out of a plastic bottle for example. Only adults to not provide them with the right materials, encouragement, or space to work on creating the best final product they are capable of. Many parents, teachers etc talk of children reaching their potential but often lack the knowledge or intelligence to recognise the child's true potential, never mind how to help the child achieve it. Of course the difference with Alma Deutscher that she clearly has fantastic parents & fabulous teachers, along with the determination, time & talent to concentrate on what she wishes to create & is resolute to create an impressive result. The passion along with her talent, Alma Deutscher is bound to do well in life.
Alma once more I am in tears each time you play I cry tears of joy . You play with my heart strings as play your music fills my mind with visions of fairies angels and mermaids all dancing. Thank you.

Perhaps she was born brilliant d talented all ON HER OWN...

Beautiful little girl whose parents are letting her grow and learn at her own pace and assisting her in capitalizing on her talent. A American friend, who taught in the UK and the US.. could not believe how much more articulate British children are, and found the difference staggering. A larger linguistic repertoire and vocabulary, never a a loss. She saw them communicating easily with adults with conversation seldom out of their depth.
that is true although the fact that Alma's dad is a linguist does play a role too, now at 22 she is fluent in German and Hebrew too for example

rmwtsou, she will never compose a synphony, she is talented for sure, but no "new Mozart" as this lady would have us believe. Shows like this are an insult to those of us with music education. Listen to Mozart's 12 variations from which the lovely tune "Twinkle Twinkle little Star" was adapted, and then tell me this girl is the new Mozart. If she is, I'm the new Vavaldi and my cat that loves to walk on the piano is a reincarnation of J.S Bach, LOL!
She is amazing, not just musically but also in the size of her vocabulary and the smoothness in the way she articulates. She almost speaks like she has been plucked from another age. It’s so refreshing to listen to her and to rise above the cultural decay being witnessed in the world today. I see that this was recorded a few years ago so I’m going to check out some of the more recent videos to see how she is developing.
Stephen Hawking casually strolls in... That makes 2 genius' in one room! Much respect for both Hawking and Alma. I have read a lot of his writings, and listened to many of Alma's compositions. Both are true legends. I'm proud to live in an age where minds such as these have the freedom and fortunate luxury to be able to express their genius to the rest of the world. As Alma said, she is lucky not to live in olden times. Likewise can be said of Hawking. They are both so very lucky, and so very talented. They give me hope for humanity!
This young lady thoroughly substantiates my belief that often when we are born our souls are not new. If you watch closely as she is playing an emotion will manifest itself on her face that no ten year old could possibly have comprehension of. We are truly blessed to witness such a glimpse of the soul that she has been gifted with. Mathematics is the purest of languages and once every great while a person comes along and gives a voice to that language. A voice so beautiful that it touches the very essence of who we are as humans. I'm so thankful that I'm here to witness this.

The guy in the background at 6:19 jus sat around the whole time, didn't even clap. Incredibly rude.

Lazy, arrogant, jaded, and just plain stiffs in many cases. Or maybe their lack of response is due to jealousy and despair over how much less they've done with their lives. Either way, they're dead fish.

Above your amazing talent Alma.. and splendid nature... i wish you to be protected.... You are a great gift to your parents and world of music.
Truly - Alma is an amazing talent. Usually, when I see 'prodigy', 'genius', I'll briefly look at them - & ho -hum - they can play ONE piece really well and don't have much beyond that. BUT this young lady is the real deal. She has a breadth of knowledge, an inner appreciation of the music, plays two instruments exceptionally well, composes and then writes her own music, and a wonderful command of language (X2). She's humorous, lucid, quirky/eccentric and absolutely charming.
Loved the Bach - Double Violin Concerto - and who didn't need the music? Incidentally - who was the lady interviewer?
The lady is Clemency Burton-Hill, who among other things presents the BBC Proms.
Thank you! I've been trying for months to ID her.
Well done Alma. I really enjoyed the way you talk about music and I am intrigued listening to you perform your wonderful new pieces. You are developing into a very interesting composer!
Improbable. Extraordinary.
Everything in nature has colluded to produce this young person.
Let's hope she is properly cared for and does not crash and burn.
Alma is poetically articulate for a child of her age. I would like to hear her play on a Bechstein grand piano, instead of the electronic one she is using in this interview. The end violin duo showed her genius. Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!
Philip Dawes .
Before you get too disparaging of electronic keyboards, I do remember hearing of a demonstration in New York where a very expensive Steinway and a top of the range Roland electronic grand were placed behind screens at a famous venue - perhaps Carnegie Hall - for a demonstration. A sizeable number of music critics and pianists were then asked to determine which they thought was which. Ie. Which was the natural Steinway grand and which was the Roland Electronic grand, when the same items were played by the same pianist on each keyboard? I remember reading that over 75% of the 'audience' got it wrong! ie. Because they could not see the keyboards, they judged the Roland Electronic Grand as having the superior sound. In the process making the assumption that what they felt was the superior sound and tonal quality would be the Steinway!
Murray, that's a great comment, but I think most will miss the point of it. If 75% of the audience can't recognize the difference between a real acoustic piano and that of an electric grand, then how can we expect they can tell the difference between a child prodigy (which this little girl is most certainly not) and that of simple a talented and well spoken pianist (which this girl certainly is)? Most people will admit they are tone deaf, while in the next breath take insult if you expose the fact they have zero musical education and are easily duped by shows such as these that use sensationalism to make it appear some musical goddess has suddenly reincarnated out of the body of Mozart. If this musically retarded lady can introduce this little girl as the "new Mozart", then I most certainly can introduce my cat as the new Bach, evident by the beautiful improvisations it makes as it walks along the keys of my piano, LOL! Speaking of which, I should add, put this girl behind similar curtains at perhaps Carnegie Hall, along with my cat who loves to walk on my piano, and ask the audience which pianist has more musical genius, as the two of them each take turns playing their masterpiece: why do I get the feeling 75% of them will choose the cat over this little girl, LOL!
your horse is way to high dear sir !
vonmerowing, I just don't like presentations like this that belittle other children into believing they aren't just as talented and can't succeed in life as this girl has, so far anyways. We should never elevate one child over the other, as all have the same God-given talents and blessings, it's only a matter of this girl was lucky to be taught by a teacher who knew what I know: how to unlock the musical magic that every child possesses. After 45 years of teaching probably thousands of kids (and adults) piano/music/synthesis/physics of sound/etc., I've learned one simple fact: all children have 2 hands, 10 fingers and one brain. The exact same muscle structure in this girls hands are in every other child's hands, same nerve endings, muscle reflexes, etc. that enable ALL children to exceed as this girl has. Give me a 4 year old child for 5 years, well behaved and willing to learn, and I'll turn that child into the same "mini Mozart" this girl is, perhaps better. When this girl sprouts wings and soars through the heavenly skies singing angelic hymns, let me know and I'll bow down and worship her as you do, LOL!
I love how she emotes during her performance. You can tangibly feel what she’s feeling as she plays. The music is truly a living entity within her. What an extraordinary soul.
I was held in absolute awe! Thank you for posting this, and for Ellen Degenerous for sharing Alma with us. I might never have captured!

Bravo!!! This will never be out of style...there are too many of us who enjoy classical music.
Alma will captivate any child as she tells a story..i love her!!!
Wow just WOW!! This is the first time I've heard of her. She is such a beautiful child, three words BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT!! And the host, she did really well too hosting & I was so happy for her playing with Alma. They both did such a great job. I look forward to more of Alma's music, so exciting! I feel like this is so enchanting & magical as I'm watching this because Alma is unrealistically so talented in her words & in her music.
Her December, 2019, Carnegie Hall debut concert is available at Medici.tv
This girl is made of music! Her DNA is not devised by ACGT but by CDEFGAB. Amazing!
bruh........ you forgot the accidentals. Now you've basically got a walking piano with no black keys running around!!
hologramh well said!
Lololol thats a good observation
@@ulengrau6357 You don’t get it.
Genius...
Without a doubt. I can't get enough of watching her!
If she's genius, then please address me as Albert Einstein.
I bet she can also become a great author.... She is like past perfection... We need a new word Almafection!
the Divine Mozart never wrote one line of the libretti of his operas. Alma, age ten, wrote the opera AND the entire libretto. Not bad...
And she's an die-hard feminist: "Alex's 2 crimes. Being a child and, even more unforgivable, a female". love that girl!
Sargoss Golek at age ten I was still climbing trees and chasing rainbows :P her state of maturity is mind-blowing! Imagine what she will have accomplished in the next decade... So exciting!!!

1. update:
"Music: Alma Deutscher
Story: Alma Deutscher, Elizabeth Adlington, Guy Deutscher
Hebrew Lyrics: Tsur Ehrlich, Guy Deutscher
Dialogues and dramaturgy consultant: Eitana Medan-Moshe".
i'm not sure what is precisely the part of AD in the libretto. The idea is hers. the basic narative too. The Hebrew Lyrics: aren't, so we'll have to wait for the English Lyrics till 29-12, the premiere of the complete opera in...german (??!!).
2. AD put an opera company in her Cinderella opera. This is absolute genius. The story immediately gets an incredible depth: it's not about physical beauty only, but about the beauty of the mind! It's a reflexion of and upon music, creation, honesty, hate and love. And power! Very impressive for an adult. but Totally mind-blowing for a 11 years old.
3. next decade??? the sky is the limit!
Sargoss Golek woah lots of info there ! its amazing how she can influence so many ppl out there at that age and at the same time be respected, worshipped, and adored! she is literally a walking angel
One can tell that much discipline has been instilled in the mind and the heart and the soul of this child. Her parents have realized that this child is genius. And they have known how to cultivate her talent.
Very talented..too smart..play nice music..and brilliant talker
She's awesome, and so is the lady. They both play extremely well.
