I have to say this was one of the best episodes Iv seen from EMBN, (as an ebike newbie) Owen’s excitement and Steve’s experience made an amazing team. The idea of a newbie being able to tackle a tech climb is amazing!! Just goes to show it doesn’t always have to be bike tech talk, just get out and enjoy cycling. Thanks guys.
The E-Bike becomes the Swiss army knife that used properly opens up so many different places to ride up and down for a lot longer. Trail centres are a good start but back-country is the adventure waiting to be opened up. That's what I have found and enjoy. Not always a breakneck speed.
This. I ride local trails here in Switzerland where I often meet die hard bikers that don't own an eMTB yet. Every time they try my Strive:ON or see what you can do with a proper enduro E-Bike, they talk about how nice it could be to own one. Having an eMTB for getting you out the door more, especially after a long day of work, truly is such a nice thing to have. I personally started out properly on an eMTB, but I'm also thinking about getting a proper park bike for lift service areas since I find myself enjoying downhill trails the most.
Well done Steve, got another convert on the way. FUN, that's what I like to hear out of these analog diehards. Owen said it opens up the hill again - in other words he's already looking forward to riding more. For me the best fun is not so much the techy uphill but the flowy berm style uphill tracks where you are accelerating, braking, turning, front wheel dancing all while going up. then the emtbs stable surefooted descents on any tracks, green, blue or black.
The climbing is what makes emb's fun for me there's a technical section in woods where I live I've yet to complete it in one yet I keep trying and I'm gonna eventually get it but it's so damn fun
This was a good illustration of the difference between a dirt bike and an EMTB. The dirt bike was kicking up rocks and tearing up the trail. In the US, the USFS considers them the same, which is ridiculous.
Brilliant video - each to their own, my idea of Heaven is a natural trail and an e-bike, whereas Hell would be a trail centre full of jumps and smooth berms. There's enough room in this world for all types to enjoy our sport in any way so "smile and ride".
All the right words said 😂👍 I was not thinking that my ordered Santa Cruz bullit is going to be a hero of a machine, capable of bringing me up the steepest trails when I ordered it. But it did and it changed my mind about Mountainbiking as a whole. Now I am actively searching for opportunities to climb trails. A few months ago I thought only about the fireroads to climb up.
Awesome video, one of your best. We were able to pick up so much technique without it being an instructional video. People we know often scoff at us about being on "electric" and yet having ridden them now for 4 years I can honestly say both my wife and myself have more fitness and skill in our 50/60s than we did 35 years ago.

Steve's unleashed the beast in Owen! 😂 Ive not got an eMTB yet but you guys are definitely selling it to me! Too old and knackered to be doing jumps and drops in bike parks but I love riding up techie climbs on my normal MTB going up steeper even more tech is really appealing! Great film guys 👍
I loved seeing the Motorbikes at the end. I come from the motorcycling adventure riding and am getting in eMTB. This is EXACTLY what I imagined. A really good episode and is inspiring me to try some of my old motorbike trails. Cheers!!
This is exactly why I bought my eMTB two years ago. I moved near a hill with an awful incline, and I used to feel exhausted climbing it with my acoustic XC bike. Now, I can do it even with my son on a Shotgun.
I've fought the urge to buy an eMTB for a long time. I added one to the quiver recently and WOW it's so much fun especially climbing things that was never possible on the manual bikes. Carrying trail maintenance gear is so easy now. The added weight also makes the downhill stuff even faster. I'm not going to give up riding manual bikes but very glad I added a eMTB for sure.
I live down the road from the Wye valley. My partner and I ride our emtbs here, we can be out for hours and have so much fun climbing up the tech climbs. Great video guys
Now let's get bike manufacturers to put 155mm or shorter cranks on these things! Also, Camera Man, help Owen out with his chest strap. Man looks like he's been hit by a bus!
The sooner people understand that ebiking is a different sport to mountain biking I think there will be less animosity, its not cheating its a different sport
Owen, look up more when you are tech climbing. Look past the obstacle and keep peddling. You will make more climbs. You can see that when your head drops and you look down you get hung up. look ahead, look ahead, look ahead. Great job though!
What amazes me is people who still it's think there are just for lesser riders or injured people. They can be used by everyone from beginners to hardcore pros. E-bike hater's are so yesterday. Nothing with MTB's either!
I was planning to get a motorbike, like I had in China, when I moved to Spain two years ago, but I decided to try an EMTB and haven’t looked back. I find it to be the best all-round travel vehicle here, where there are long stretches of paved and unpaved roads to explore with light, mindful traffic. I have been loving the challenge of technical climbs and road climbs have been less of a slog, but technical downhill scares me and I have a problem with my hands, so braking the whole way down just kills me. In the end, technical climbs and road downhill is where it’s at for me and I have been exploring all of my options over here with a great deal of joy!
Excellent video, sums up the fun you can have on an EMTB. Here's a question how much faster is EMTB than standard MTB on a typical enduro race stage? Might be an interesting video

The extra power on an ebike in that situation is difficult because you dont have a clutch like a dirtbike where you can control the power better.
use your rear brake by dragging it to simulate a clutch or hold n release to get a fan of a clutch when exiting corners
That's one of the complaints with emotorcycles, even more critical with their power.
