  • Getting direct sunlight can provide an ample amount of your daily vitamin D needs, so long as you know what you’re doing. Sunscreen, winter months, having dark skin, advancing age, and living far from the equator all make it hard to produce enough vitamin D from the sun's UV rays. Tune in to see how easy it is to make sure you're able to reap the sun’s benefits.

Dark Skinned, and I would walk in the sun at 11:00am to noon before I went to work. My Vitamin D level was 17 and it wouldn’t move, by the end of last Summer it was 19. With everything that was going on, I immediately began to take matters into my own hands, I started taking the supplement and got my number up to 70 and I have maintained it to this day.

Hi Mathew, great to hear that you got your levels tested so you could supplement appropriately. This is a great PSA for those with dark skin, since your skin naturally blocks most of the UVB rays you need to make vitamin D. It is surprising however that your levels only moved 2 points after being in the sun for an hour every day starting at 11. Where do you live if you don’t mind me asking?

@@matthewpadgett9526 yes definitely harder to get ample amounts of sun in a northern climate. I would make sure if you try to get any amount of proper sun that it’s between 11 AM and 1 PM in the summer time. Also, it would be good to know how high your cholesterol is. If you’re taking any statins or have low cholesterol it’s hard for your body to manufacture, vitamin D since cholesterol is the main ingredient in the process.

We did a dive into the highest D in food - Inuit culture. Max D via the gut… 1000IU.
Serum levels are not the key. The key is storage D levels.
I easily get mine to optimal levels before going into winter. A proper human winter diet is key. Aka no carbs. This releases D throughout the winter. Natures rules if we simply think. High fat ketosis season.
Don’t forget the positives of NIR sun for mitochondrial health. 365 NIR is available and sets proper daylight circadian exposure.

Great video, love your ones on nattokinaise too, amazing food!
Don't get much sun in the UK atm, been taking 10,000IU of D and 200-600 mcg K2 daily, went from slightly low to 176nmo/L, happy to be a little "abnormal", gp is fine with it, told him the plan.
Going to be fun explaining why I want to swap blood pressure tablets, statin and blood thinner for nattokinaise, if it wasn't for the blood thinners I would just do it and say after, but one stroke was enough for me (about 5 years ago, my name references others 😅😅)
Already took a week off the blood tablet, it was "normal" range most of the time, went "pre high blood pressure" once around day 3, started having a low level headache so started again.
I did the same with statins for a month before blood test, went slightly above the "normal" range.
So that's 2 of 3 already baseline measurement done, i need to do more research on hdl/ldl and anticoagulants and I will go for it.
Already stopped 16 tablets a day, mainly for cramps.
    ❤️🙏

Great video. Im a new subscriber and im enjoying your videos so far. I noticed you didn't really mention getting D from our diets... Can't eating certain foods help with vitamin D? Foods like sardines and other fish, eggs and others. I realize you cant get all of your necessary D from foods alone but these probably help. Thanks!

Great question, I actually had a small part about dietary vitamin D from eggs, certain fish, and liver, but I edited that part out since I wanted this video to about sun sourced for the most part. I will dive deeper into foods that contain vitamin d in a future video, so it’s great that you’re a subscriber now.🍻

Generally speaking, Vitamin D from the sun and a supplement are functionally the same, so long as you are taking a quality product. However, the additional health benefits of direct sunlight are immeasurable.

      Not really!
Producing much less than 1 mg of vitamin D. Do you really think that consummes cholesterol?
If sunning lowers cholesterol, it has to be some other mechanism.
Sun light also has the near-infrared light which activates the mitocondria. That might be a mechanism.

Hi Mary, great to hear that you’re taking a good amount of D3 daily. I try to use a mineral based sunscreen. A little goes a long way, so some people don’t like the natural options. But the chemicals in traditional products are nasty. Here’s the product I use: www.iherb.com/pr/beauty-by-earth-mineral-sunscreen-spf-25-zinc-oxide-sun-protection-4-fl-oz-118-ml/112750

Those levels might work for someone healthy.
But for anyone with autoimmune issues, there's regimes with much higher levels of vitamin D which are said to work.
Meassure your blood level of 25(OH)D if you try that kind of thing.
