BTW, When you flew from AKL to SYD on QF140, It was most likely operated by Jetconnect which is a New Zealand company wholly owned by Qantas. They do this for, money of course since New Zealand's Labour/Labor costs are lower than Australia's.

Love flying with Qantas. I was leaving Manila when parts of the city & the Shangri-La hotel was raged with gun fire by extremists.
When I saw the Qantas aircraft arrive at the gate, I heaved a sigh of relief knowing I would be home safe now.

I also took Qantas's A332 in economy right at the start of the pandemic in March. I was only flying from MEL-SYD so I couldn't justify flying business but I took the opportunity to make a review of the economy seat. Also I do agree, Qantas has some of the most friendlest staff around! Excellent review Paul!!

On any other airline I would've been nervous with all that turbulence at the end of the flight. But, Qantas has one of the most sterling safety records on planet earth, their pilots take enormous pride in that fact. Another nice report, Paul. I hope you got to see more of Bali than the airport.

Hi Paul. Always love your content. Now that us Aussies are finally free to leave the country again after nearly two years locked in, I have booked to fly Qantas to Singapore on A330 200 in BC which is why I was watching. Before changing over to Emirates A380 to Europe. 19th March will be 2 years since this travel nut stepped on a plane. And that was to scurry home from OS before the border shut. Can't wait for this trip. Longest I have been grounded since a kid.

As an Aussie, it is nice to see videos and reminisce on when we could be proud to fly internationally, with two great airlines (Qantas and Virgin Australia). Hopefully, those days will return. But first, the individual states still have very different restrictions to deal with first!

I sat in the same seat as Paul on one of my SYD/AKL flights on an Qantas A330-200. Qantas was operating their A333-200's between MEL/SYD and AKL until Australian and New Zealand boarders closed. Using their A333-200's was Qantas between Australia and New Zealand is the airline's shortest international flights using this aircraft type.

Maybe useful to know for future reference - that when a leg(s) on a Qantas flight is operated by Jetstar (including Jetstar Asia) the same Qantas entitlements (baggage, food etc) apply. Took me a while to fathom that out earlier this year

  • @johnpinckney4979

Great video. Liked the glimpse of the Qantas "retrojet". Really a class act. Qantas was indeed not only "Australia's Overseas Airline", but is likely now Australia's best domestic airline. Were air travel to ever come back, it would be nice to see the three-point belts adopted in all passenger seats. It would be a serious improvement to customer safety and comfort. Interesting to note the flickering from the florescent lights as you were getting ready to board. Reminded my of the old 25 frame flicker on CRT TV's when going from the U.S. to Europe. I'm glad you've been able to chronicle air travel before it was taken away or, at the very least, actively discouraged.

Qantas more or less abandoned Perth for international flights years ago although they did start the non-stop to London before COVID. We flew with Garuda to Bali a year ago and it was a lovely flight with great service.
Note: for Australians Bali is like Majorca etc for those from the UK.

I do like QANTAS, they tend to be my preference. Glad you had a good experience with them. I don't know how other people's experience tallies, but my impression has always been that Virgin has a bit more pizzazz, however QANTAS tends to get the basics and little stuff down better. I think a mate's summary was quite good: Virgin will have a slicker cabin, but QANTAS will remember to bring you your drink. So it's down to preference, I've had generally good experiences with both. That being said, well, standing in the airport on a Friday afternoon, with a cyclone blowing in, everyone else has ceased flying because of the weather but QANTASLink is somehow still managing to land Q400s so you can go home? That will buy A LOT of loyalty. :P

I know this isn't a deal breaker - but rather good choice of music when required.

I am a subscriber to your channel on TH-cam and want to tell you how much I enjoy your postings. I am a very
elderly lady - a great-grandmother - who for health reasons has not been able to travel for many years so your
channel lets me enjoy travel vicariously! Please keep posting especially now that the dread coronavirus has
decimated the airline industry - so few people are travelling now except for emergencies when it cannot be
avoided that I hope you will continue to pursue your "hobby" for people like myself.

Excellent video as always Paul. Would really like to fly to Sydney 2021 for a train ride, perhaps Qantas is the one to choose....

Here in Perth Qantas abandoned us for International flights years ago - they only eventually came back for the non-stop flight to London. So the international carriers jumped in and to be honest the service is better than Qantas.
