      Yes, flew in economy. It was the first time in my airline travels to see that you could order a birthday cake (pre-order)! This was a few years ago, not sure if it is still on option

      Having not flown before, I am sometimes curious about things. PAUL, what is it when boarding the plane that you either press, or scan something to the right of your plane door just before you go through it. I've seen you do something several times now and watching this on a small iPhone, I'm never able to see quite what it is. Can you please enlighten me? Thanks in advance 👍🏼

    Your video brought back good memories. I fly Malaysian airlines from Guangzhou, China back to the UK. Love KL airport. 2018 I treated myself to first class. The Golden lounge was very good and comfortable. Did not eat in restaurant as I new the food was good on the plane. We flew on the A350-900 very good plane. And before you say there is no first class. They did class the 4 seats at the front A1 - K1 as first class ( I was in 1K both ways on my trip). They changed it to something business class name the following year. Still expensive, but good. I got my pre-flight info from another blogger Sam the Asian chap very good. I travelled business class 2019. The Golden lounge at KL airport, turn left at entrance. Is ok very busy not always easy to get a good seat. The business seats on the A350-900 are good with a mixture of thrown seats, singles, and doubles. The lighting changes during the flight, very relaxing. The only complaint with the business class seat. If you are broad shouldered like me. The seat controls where too low down on the side panel and I kept knocking them and the seat kept moving. Pain. Oh and I do not know why but the external camera, ( which I was really looking forward to) for some reason was pointing straight down? On other planes they point forward. So all you see is tarmac at first, them a little bit of the ground then clouds. Not good. When I book a flight online, I always use the app “Seat Guru”. It is pretty good, accurate. And gives good details so you can pre book your seat.

    I think the bus transfer at KLIA also serves as a backup because I nearly missed my connection in 2019 when the aerotrain broke down and everyone was herded to the bus systems which added so much extra time due to the volumes of people trying to use the buses

    Many many years ago i travelled to Malaysia and on the return trip i asked about an upgrade to business class as a treat for the wife. We had asked whilst in Dubai about upgrading and they wanted over £500 pounds each one way. But for some reason they said it was 500 ringgit around £90 pounds, so we jumped at it for that price. We still have the amenity kits, everything in them well out of date now. And one other time when on honeymoon with emirates and we got upgraded to business but standard food and no amenity kit.
    Was lucky at the time to travel a lot around the world until the kids came, and from then on lucky if we get away at all and if we can its local like Spain.

    The business centre is actually in the business class lounge aka the main lounge itself. However it seldom being used though.
    The first class lounge meanwhile is for people who want total peace and quiet. During peak period, I got feedbacks that the business class lounge is like a canteen!

    I've flown those throne seats on JetBlue. They may be a few years old now, but they're still among the very best seats you can get, and are my absolute favorites. You can't beat the room and the storage, and the screen is perfectly adequate. A lot of newer "better" premium seats don't come close to the comfort and space and privacy you get with these 'uns.

    Back in November of 2019 I went to Bali. Had a layover of 1 hour in Singapore (same aircraft, but we needed to take everything off board). On the way back, after departing 1,5 hours later, I had an even shorter layover of 40 minutes in Kuala Lumpur. But we did have to board into a different airplane. In a different terminal as well!
    Never felt this rush before in an unknown airport.
    Eventually the plane was delayed by an hour, but the only notice was after landing.

    Two friends and I flew Malaysia in October 2002 using a 30 day pass which allowed unlimited travel to their entire Asian routes tho never repeating a city, and you had to go thru KUL each trip. $777.00 usd. Good deal! Big city then beach, big city then beach, and so on. So LAX KUL SIN.Then SIN KUL DPS. Then the Bali terrorist attack Oct 12. We survived physically and were able to make the next days flights out, DPS KUL BKK. One of my friends got very sick while in BKK but we trudged on to Phuket. There he got worse so to the hospital we went, where he was admitted with PTSD. After a few dats we decided to head home and back to SoCal we went.
    Regarding Malaysia, they were very accommodating with our situation. All staff we encountered were friendly and professional. The planes were clean, our economy seats were comfortable, the service good, and we had plenty of good drink and food. Ten years later we retuned to Bali on Oct 12, flying Korean Air A380, to celebrate and mourn the lives lost ten years earlier. While I'm rambling, I flew to Bali last March and spent only two nights before flying home due to Covid19 and not wanting to be stuck there for who knows how long. 👍

    I went through KL hub in 1978 on my way to Melbourne from the UK. Transit lounge was very small, bland room and it was steaming hot (no aircon), with open windows to allow fresh air and a lizard crawling around the screens on the inside catching bugs (I am not kidding!) Memorable for that at least. Glad to see all these years later, it has changed and modernized.

    • @danialleonardo9223
      @danialleonardo9223 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      in 1978, kuala Lumpur used the old Subang Airport as it's main international airport so I'm guessing that's the airport you went to back in the years since the old airport is an opened air concept terminal. The airport in this video is the newer Kuala Lumpur International Airport opened in 1998.

    Long time subscriber & enjoyed the vid as always. Just a quick suggestion. Obviously as an AVGeek, I understand that "38,000 Avios" means 38,000 frequent flyer miles (I think), & I can do a rough conversion from 45 pounds to U.S. dollars. However many people might not be able to. I subscribe to many foreign channels. When they list a price of say an car, they always say "or about (however much) U.S." Like those channels, I'm sure you have a lot of subscribers here in the 'states, so maybe offering a quick conversion would be a good thing. Just a thought. Look fwd to future vids. Safe travels my friend. 😉👍👍✌️

    • @Paul_Lucas
      @Paul_Lucas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment! Well, you can't directly translate Avios to other miles, really. It's not like converting pounds to dollars. Avios *are* air miles in as much as they're the currency of the frequent flyer club BA runs. With Delta, you have Skymiles. With Air New Zealand, they're Airpoints. They have almost no relation to miles at all and every scheme assigns a different value to a "mile" (or an Avios, or an Airpoint). So, 38,000 Avios isn't the same as 38,000 Delta Skymiles. For a better example, think of how a flight between Chicago and New York on American Airlines in first class will cost 20,000 American miles but only 16,500 Avios. Why are there fewer British Airways Avios required? Well, a single Avios is worth more, in a way, but only in that specific case. There are lots of other examples where *fewer* AA miles are needed for a specific flight than British Airways Avios, like it only costs 10,500 AA miles to fly New York to Los Angeles in economy off-peak, yet 13,000 Avios to do exactly the same thing on the same flight. So, these comparisons aren't always helpful. All the award charts for different airlines vary so much!

    • @dodoubleg2356
      @dodoubleg2356 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Paul_Lucas oh huh?? That's interesting...& makes sense why offering a conversion wouldn't always be accurate. Unlike currency, I thought air miles earned, at least under the airline alliances like Star Alliance or One World translated equally among the airlines that are either partnered with one another, or part of an alliance. I understand your point though. Thanks for the response & explanation. Stay healthy & travel safe my friend. 😉✌️

    A much appreciated video as always Paul. I've flown with Malaysia Airlines many times both KUL-LHR and on regional Asian routes. They have always been fine and can be ultra competitive on price but they never quite shine. Nothing wrong but nothing outstanding either. And KLIA is similar - a truly fab building (that satellite terminal was like a second hoe=me to me for some years) - but always slightly let down. The food offering if you don't use the lounge is very poor. But I suppose of you have Singapore Airlines and Changi airport "just down the road" you're always going to look second best eh?

      Ah that's funny as it was in the paper today - there was an article about it causing a traffic jam - a guy has bought as it's no longer flying & he is turning it in to a restaurant! It was being transported to a site where he is going to open it up serving meals:)

    7:41 I notice that you touch the side of the aircraft upon entering. I believe I've also seen this on other reports. Is there a reason for this, such as your phone connection? Tx.
