G'day mate. I may have a solution for anchoring the hot glue tip. You previously said the hot glue tip is recessed about 1 & 1/2 inches into the rod & then protrudes 2 inches. What if you drilled 2 holes, 1 going nth/south & the other going east/west at the 1/2 inch & 1 inch points inside the core... leaving 1/2 an inch space to the core tip & then use pot rivets to basically create a miniature rebar. Before doing that, scratch the inside of the core to create extra grab for the hot glue. You don't have to go all the way with the pot rivet itself & risk cracking the core, just apply enough pressure to create the rebar then snip off the excess rivet. I trialed the above myself on a 10mm core & it worked nicely. Love the way you pay attention to the small but very important details re safety. My background is diy woodwork & crafts from junk nobody wants & then on selling. I'm looking at making some larp weapons for a friend of mine which is how I found you. Cheers - Mike :)
I'm not a fan of the metal rod in the core :/ what calamacil does is glue a very lose weave cloth around the tip of the core and then use a resin similiar to hotglue at the tip. Basically a cloth net over the tip filled with hot glue.

Update: I have been using 1/4in fiberglass rod from Tap Plastics here in Seattle Washington US

love your videos, but I'm having a hard time finding the cores.. where can I buy a core to make a weapon
You can try a Kite supply shop. They have solid & hollow fiberglass & carbon rods/tubes. Not that pricey either.
You said 16g stainless steel twice :P
