CURIOSITY 2 will be the first of her kind and is still being built. So, in the meantime, we’re going to be living aboard a few different performance sailboats to expand our sailing experience and soak up some knowledge from our fellow world cruising sailors. And we are starting at the top because we have moved aboard the big sister of our future boat. It’s an HH55 named Ticket To Ride and it is the most impressive, comfortable, performance catamaran we have ever sailed! The owners, Frank and Mary Grace, have racked up nearly 30,000 nautical miles in less than 4 years on this vessel. They have had this boat flying a hull at 28 knots of speed (because it’s that high caliber of a race boat) but they are cruisers at heart, not racers. They are fellow Texans, have been following our journey, and reached out the moment they heard we were looking to up our sailing game. It was a dreamy invitation we instantly said YES to. And here we are!
I started watching your channel as a way of traveling the world, because I'm stuck at home due to health issues. Every Sunday you brighten my day and I get to see places I would never see otherwise.
Can you all explain the role of daggerboards on a boat in a simple manner? When do you leave them down or raise them? Or leave them part way up? I'm just a land lubber always looking to learn more.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 They talked about this in one of the videos on the process, why they picked the HH and why that size. The smaller size certainly is cheaper than the bigger boats when docked and many fees are determined by boat length. The rest I'll leave up to you and recommend you watch that video of theirs.
So good to see you both back on the water! As an 88 year old , I not able to fly my airplanes or enjoy my boat. I get my taste of adventure by watching your great adventures. Thanks for the ride.
Leland, I’m 68 and I do the same. When I lived on my 40 ft sailboat the technology was not even close to today.l How I wish I had the money and the health to live on such a beautiful Cat but I had my time of wonderful adventures in my life. I was a tomboy all my life skiing, sailing, scuba and on and on. At 57 I was diagnosed with lung cancer and life changed drastically. Thank you Frank and Mary Grace for hosting this remarkable couple and sharing a peek at your lovely life.
GAE Did not loose my medical but let it expire at age of 65 upon retirement. The cost finally caused me to no longer fly, bUT I still long for it . I am thankful for all the flying you tubers, especially, Big Ern (Captain of a 737) for SWAL.
How very kind of Frank and Mary Grace to invite you to join them on their amazing boat. Even more, for them to have you share it with us. A very beautiful boat- function and form at its best, and a very generous couple. Thanks Jason and Nikki for taking us along.
This boat is exceptional, to combine the speed, with all the comfort, the fresh air, great use of space, the thought that went into their designs, kudos to the owners of this company. I think it’s one of the best I’ve seen thus far. You are going to love your new toy Nicki and Jason, your hosts look very comfortable and happy with life on the water in this vessel.
Wow! Stunning boat! Frank and Mary Grace seem like such lovely people, and it is so amazing of them to welcome you aboard the bigger sister to your new cat! Looking forward to seeing your 44 and the adventures you will have on it! HH is truly working on a whole new level!
Ah yes, Fakarava...one of my favorite named places. Not just because it sounds like a certain word in English (😜), but also in Tahitian, it means "making things superb". Which is fitting for your vlogs as that's exactly what you do! While the atoll is part of French Polynesia, the first European to discover Fakarava was actually a Baltic German-ethnic RUSSIAN, Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, who named it Wittgenstein. And before ruling the Kingdom of Tahiti, the Pōmare dynasty originally came from there. What an impressive catamaran! And chillin' on a bean bag as you enjoy the views of the water is livin' the life! Getting on board to get a taste of what's to come was the perfect opportunity!
It is good to see the two of you smiling again and your hosts are amazing people. They would have to be! A few weeks sailing together and i am sure they are sort of set in their ways as you are as well. Good news.
Wow! I’m in love with this beautiful HH55! Clever, functional design that has a timeless feel to it. The layout is so well done and the features are just amazing. Your hosts seem like such fun people. I’m glad you went with HH. I’m sure you’ll not regret it,
I was just thinking as you showed all of the storage space. My understanding is cats are very sensitive to overloading. Spend thousands of dollars on carbon fiber components to reduce weight and then store lots of extra weight in all of the storage area. In a cruising boat storage is important but in a performance boat total displacement is also important, a balancing act. I am so looking forward to seeing your new cat and hopefully some videos of the build. I love what Ruby Rose is doing now.
What a well thought out boat design. It shows how previous experience with their other boats has helped shape this design. Loved the davit system and the overall design layout. Sweet ride!
Glad you’re back! Not being a sailor, you lost me with all of the technical stuff. However, that was very temporary, as I loved the rest of the tour! This is just an example of how even though I thought you would lose me as a viewer when you switched to boating, I just love you two and I’m invested and interested in what you’re up to and how you are getting to your next adventure. It would be so boring if everyone toured around in a 19ft Airstream like me. 😂 So, you got me hooked to the two of you, not the vessel. That being said, that boat (and your future one) is GORGEOUS!!! Thanks for being you.
It's so crazy to see how far you two have come. I remember seeing the first composting toilet video when it came out, getting so excited when you first mentioned moving onto a sailboat, then learning to sail, and now here you are, buying your second. Started watching y'all in middle school and I'm a junior in college now. Time flies.
33 years sailing monohulls. We're late to the cats, our 1st was a Leopard 38. Then chartered a Lagoon 410 which made us rethink "size matters". Multiple Annapolis boat shows pointed us towards HH. Their designs and attention to detail is on another level, your tour of the 55 confirms that. We're chartering an HH with another couple in January out of Puerto Rico. Our 2¢, always go with functional storage vs seating; practical > comfort. Safe travels . . .
I am so glad you guys get to spend time and experience on a sister ship design like the one you're buying. Sharing this experience with the rest of us that are stuck on land is very gracious of the two of you and your hosts that are making it possible. Thanks so much.
Thanks to Frank and Mary Grace for sharing their home with you and all of us. It makes me so happy to see the two of you so at ease. Looking forward to to seeing it all!! Love you!!!
I’m so excited to see you guys’ 44. It’s going to be GREAT!!!! I think I’m as excited as you all are. Can we get an update on the build soon? Thanks. Have a great sail!!!
This boat looks amazing and what they have done with it is breath taking. I know that you are looking at what yours can look like. Y'all look like you are having so much fun.
No doubt Frank and Mary Grace are fellow Beatles fans. I love the names of your boats. Mine is, "Love Me Do". Thank you for sharing your beautiful HH with us. I am sure you love her, "Eight days a week". 🤣
They are indeed, awesome catamarans. I love the details in this one. The owners knew exactly what they wanted. Great opportunity to sail and converse with the owners aboard a HH. A great knowledge gaining experience.
Wow! That's an A-mazing cruiser! Looking forward to the upcoming weeks to get to know your hosts and the HH55. As always, thanks for including us in your travels!
Within seconds of my screen tap of engagement, I caught myself smiling as one would at first glimpse of that special someone emerging from the jetway of a plane or noticing them pulling into your driveway from vantage of living room window. The familiarity of the distinct narrative timbre of the Wynns is viscerally stomach ticklingly sweet. So good to see you both again.
Wow 😲😳 Most beautiful catamaran I have ever seen ... Like an F1 race car, stable, nimble and FAST....Well designed with such well appointed and practical construction.
Spectacular, beautiful and amazing boat. Great to see you both back on the water again. A great performance sailboat. Can’t wait to see Curiosity 2 sailing in blue water.
Frank and Mary really thought of everything! It all looks superb! Definitely blows your former innocent Curiosity out of the water. There are so many amazing catamarans around the world, and yet none of them will visit the DPRK. Which is a shame because they could get a front-row seat of a missile launch at Wonsan beach.
Thanks for the tour. That’s a beautiful boat. It’s actually a little overwhelming… it looks all complicated but I’m sure it’s actually designed to be simplistic to the trained sailor.
My favorite feature is the nothingness!!!! So beautiful! Thank you for the tour of that amazing boat! The excitement for your own boat must be building! Also, to Bali's credit... I think that the garage door feature offers so much more openness on a smaller boat, as well as it is a luxury feature for a smaller price tag.
Frank and Mary Grace were the best hosts and so incredibly kind and open to allow us to share (very thankful for that). We had a blast and came away with lifelong new friends. It was a win win all the way around.
Wow, that is a beautiful Catamaran - the finishes are luxurious and the amount of thought and attention to detail in terms of storage and maintenance access is impressive. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your visit aboard a slightly larger boat of the same class you are getting and how this experience might influence your decisions moving forward and also introducing us to the owners an amazing pair of people.
HOLY MOLY!!! That is a stunning boat! Every detail carefully thought out and created with expertise. Can't wait to see you new boat. There was (I think) a really cool feature at time stamp 29:34 where you can see a "port" window under the stairs to the salon. Was that a standard feature or a custom feature? I am not a person who is knowledgeable on boats, but it looked very cool and useful. Another beautifully shot video and wish we were there with you. Thank you Frank and Mary for allowing us into your paradise!
Great people, great boat. So helpful to see the boat you are building in the flesh to confirm your choices. Is the boat in gel coat, paint or wrapped ?
A captivating introduction to induce envy in every sailor. A tremendously beautiful cat fast enough that video needed captioning "Video not sped up" to shed disbelief. Absolutely the best! So lucky. The anticipation must be absolutely unbearable. Can a 15 ton tailored build sustain foils? Is anyone writing software?
Was so excited to get my fix of sailing life again with you! Brilliant video. So many technical terms I didn't understand but loved regardless! Sunday bliss back again ❤️
Ticket to Ride is a good name for a boat and happens to be a Beatles song too. My NACRA 5.8 was 'Little Deuce Sloop' after the Beach Boys song. Little Deuce Coupe
Wowowow!!! This is the best catamaran I have ever seen. Great layout great details great sailing. I think you guys made the right decision to get one of these. I vote folding table and sink/table/storage on the back but really in the end it is your choice.
i took a few videos off, which I will definently watch,!!!!! but I have to say one of my favorite things about your channel is how committed to one another you are... thank you for that.... and yes i love the story of the travels, where you travel, the cinematography, attention to the "flow of the week" but first and foremost you two are one.. committed to one another.. thank you
I was so glad to see you Nikki & Jason! Enjoyed meeting Frank & Mary. Touring the HH55 was amazing to see the space you had to work/live with, & the amount of storage. I really liked the kitchen. Beautiful. Like how he did the closet doors, & protect the wood on the counter. Enjoyed snorkeling with you Seeing the fish & coral. Very beautiful area you are in. This
My wife and I have been with you since the RV days and the episode of tire loosing air as you were heading to Chicken AK. We went that same route and just to be sure brought along the same air pump:) That boat looks so cool and you guys are doing adventures we all dream about. Keep the videos coming. And impressed that the ladies know the mechanics and how to handle these boats, good going gals. Not to overlook the guys that have the "can do" ethic and solid character to brave the open water.
That thing is absolutely killer!!! The fact that everything is electronic makes me a slight bit nervous for any kind of system failure, but wow, what a fantastically designed boat!
From bitter experience, when a daggerboard hits something at speed something gives … and it nearly always the sharp trailing edge of a board slicing through the case/structure behind it. The lighting with Nikki in the last scene was just stunning. Well done Jason! And mother nature.
Nikki has been stunning for many years. (And the lighting has little to do with it!)
Cabin lights.
What a beautiful boat and such a nice couple they are to allow you to come aboard. Awesome to see you both. See you next week. Be safe.
