This is a wonderful tribute, and it makes me sad to think of all those that died there. The music does totally set it off. Well done!

Thanks for putting this photo album together. I think the place is historic and should be preserved. As far as the paranormal stuff goes, I am a skeptic. By the same thinking, the site of the World Trade Towers should be haunted to the extreme, yet we hear of no paranormal activity there!

I do know they use to pick the bodies up down at the bottom with a train and rail them out towards West point and Fort Knox to the south on 31 W and burn the bodies, at the height for your information 1 person died every hour of the day for a few years. My Great Aunt was a nurse there and a patient. I grew up in Valley Station which is right below PRP.

The elderly lady at 3:15 is probably one of the last living TB patients from Waverly Hills. She was 92 a couple of years ago. Not sure if she's still alive or not.

The hospital was called Waverly Hills because in 1883 the site of the hospital was a plantation by the same name.

I'd love to visit it, mostly because it is supposed to be the most haunted building in the world, that and look at it...it's an amazing looking building, creepy looking as all hell, but yet it has a very strange quality, makes you want to visit it....-gets chills- I'm fucking obsessed with the damn place.

at 4:04 that's Ron the Security guard. I got caught sneaking around up there in 2003 when I was 17 and he found me and let me off with just a warning, I wasn't breaking anything, just would sneak up there with friends to look around. Ron is a good guy.

yeah, that's another place this was a 'Sanitorium' not a 'Sanitarium'. This was for sick people not the mentally disturbed. I am fascinated by the architechture of this place. It is an amazing building.

nah, the highest number of deaths in a single year at Waverly Hills was 152. Stewart wrote that the worst time for deaths was at the end of the Second World War when troops were returning from overseas with very advanced tuberculosis cases. Some independent researchers suggest that since 162 people died at Waverly Hills in 1945, the highest total number of deaths possible over 50 years was approximately 8,212. (wikipedia, sources on the page)

My name is Waverly and now I'm thinking of opening up a Sanitarium...one that DOESN'T have over 63,000 deaths :)

  • @JPieman
    @JPieman 13 ปีที่แล้ว

From the research that you can do, it is figured that the absolute high end of deaths at Waverly couldn't be more than 8212, with a more realistic number between 5500 and 6200. That is going off of death certificates issued by the county that the hospital is in. It may not be easy to track down, but the info is out there to see that 63k is a bit high. still, 8200+ is rather signifigant...

I thought this was a great video! I also think your choice of a modern version of Adagio for Strings was very appropriate and ties the old in with the new. For those of you who may not know Adagio for Strings is not Techno or Rave music. It is a very beautiful and touching piece of music written by Samuel Barber in the 1930's. It was played at the funerals of Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy.

My mother hates all the hype this place gets. It wasn't until recently did I know that was where her sister died in 1949. She was only 18 and my mom was 17 at the time. Its kind of like turning a place where people died and families were grief stricken into an amusement park. Leave the dead in peace.

My fathers sister from Wayne Co. Ky. was a patient there in the early 30's. She was discharged from there and sent home to die. She died on the front porch of their farmhouse after being given a shot by the local Dr; who basically came at her request to assist her in dying. M. J. Morrow, Cecilia, ky.

Where does the "hundreds die daily" (:45)info come from? Hundreds (plural) means 1,400+ deaths every week? The building could handle 400 patients. I say that's an insane turnover rate. They would have to clean out the entire building three times a week. Going there must have been a 0% chance of recovery.

actual evidence concludes that only about a maximum of 8000 people died there in over 50 years. still a lot. but this was over 50 years ago, divide 8000 by 50 is 160 deaths a year (maximum). While it is a lot, im wondering what the avrage death is for a regular hospital now (hospitals which also house patients that dont have anything life threatening) and see how bad things really were

you are actually incorrect (as are the "Spooked" and "Ghost Hunter" promos, etc).. The hospital closed as a TB treatment facility in the 50s/60s, but was a geriatric facility until it finally closed in the early 80s. So it has even more history than you give it credit for :)

If I knew about this place when I was about this place when I was down there years ago I would've gone there. I don't think there are haunted places by me so I may just have to drive down there. Would you go with since you know about the place?

@darkpa2011 any proof of this? a few doctors had stated the worst number of deaths per year was 152 during the one year. so far, any records coming from there are actually refuting that claim stating that the actual number is around 5,000 to 6,000 total. So I would like to see the evidence of this, I am not trying to be rude or anything, im respectfully stating facts that i know.

yeah, it was more like one or two per day died, not hundreds per day. that is one fact nearly every "documentary" on this place gets wrong. when i know i'm being lied to i stop watching, so for that reason i did not watch the rest of this one. if hundreds died daily, the entire population of the region would have been dead in a short time in those days. the "body chute" was needed because the morgue was small and the hospital is at the top of a steep assed hill that old timey hearses had a problem with, making it hard to keep rid of infected corpses.
