Years ago I walked into a big college party run by a music fraternity after their successful Jazz festival.... The first song the played over the incredible sound system....and Music majors always have an incredible sound system... As we walked in the door. Full volume...Full speed ahead. Great song. Blew the roof of the place.

This track was sung by the incomparable Ellis Hall (vocalist, keyboardist, bassist, guitarist and he happens to be blind too), and NOT Larry Braggs pictured here. More than half of these band members were not in the lineup at the time this track was cut. Only Bandleader Emilio, Doc and Rocco were on this track. I do not think even Dave Garibaldi had rejoined the band on drums yet either. Ellis' tour with Tower was fairly short, but he was one of the best lead vocalists they ever had. When I saw him with them, he cover keys and lead vocals, and even was featured with a bloody bass solo!

Dave Garibaldi would not rejoin the band until 10 years later.

Rocco Prestia in full effect: This song is a bass guitar lesson of fingerstyle funkaliciousness...

catboyzee Amen to that. He legitimized a lot of what they were doing.

I’m upset that I didn’t come across this song earlier. We are playing this in my jazz band and I couldn’t be more excited.
    Classic 80’s.

TOP certainly will never replace Francis "Rocco" Prestia's phenomenal staccato funk-bass. Or Mic's delicious trumpet that lent so much flavor to TOP, Cold Blood, and Sons of Champlin. Lawdy-LAWD!!!

Long after all the big hits Squib cake still a young man willing to learn and walking up Hip street. TOP Droped the Albums Power and Monster on a leash.
Keeping with there tradition the band blew us all the way back to Oakland and again let us know what is hip..
Tower of power will go down in history as the best funkiest and baddest band on the planet. Pick any Instrument you hear in their music and somebody in that band has mastered it. Amazing vocals for many years.( Saw them in Minnesota at Treasure Island years ago we have great seats we stuck our hand out and gave them 5 as they were going on to stage. Everyone was yelling TOP TOP. I remember yelling go get them " And a soulful voice yelled back Ok. I believe it was Emilio and the drummer. And trust me they did not disappoint.( I don't know if they're inducted in the Hall of fame but they dam well should be..

I started taking bass lessons when I was 16. I had already played for a few years, so my teacher - great guy, great bassist, the screensaver on his computer was "TIMING" in big, colorful letters - decided that this was a good pick for a first song.
For a kid whose musical obsession was all black metal and punk rock, this song was a far cry from anything I would have picked back then, but I'm glad my teacher went for it because it A) is a fucking banger and B) made me a considerably better bass player!

saw em a dozen times between both “ living rooms , Lupos and CCI living room Providence RI always fun to be in the audience and listening to people say “ no I’ve never heard them “ I walk up and say “ watch ur feet will move when the horns start blasting “ sure enough 1/2 way thru the show we would make eye contact and they’d be doing the Oakland shuffle
