Delegating Work To Employees - Beware Of THIS Mistake (Reverse Delegation)

  • When a task that you have delegated to an employee comes back to you - and then you finish it. This is called reverse delegation or monkey business.
    If you, as the boss, work on delegated tasks, then you do the work that your employees should actually be doing. This is fatal because then you have no time for your actual tasks.
    Has it ever happened to you that a task that you have delegated to an employee ends up back on your desk again? Does this happen to you a lot? Then you keep walking into the same trap again and again.
    In this video, I'll show you how to avoid this back delegation in the future.

      I'm from Canada. What is your advice? Same here being bullied, mobbed, gaslighting, harassed at the hospital for over 12 years. I've happened to be the top worker for 38 years and have never been suspended. These bullies are jealous and miserable people. Union, manager, HR and the police are all totally useless. Bullies are lazy bums and stupid managers are scared of the bullies. They say about me I'm crazy, I drink, I'm a stalker all bs defamation of character. The biggest mistake since they removed disciplinary measures. They should arrest the bullies and fire the manager. Action speaks louder than nasty words. It destroyed my reputation. I will never quit to make these lazy bums ever win. If I decide to transfer to another hospital and may start mobbing me once again, I don't know all the new managers etc. like in every department like now. So best to not change hospitals. I will never let bullies try to control me from quitting. Never let these low life lazy bums ever win.[

    Yeah, i got this many times. In one case, the employee asked when I needed the job done and then endless details without actually doing it. In another case, an employee offered that he and I could do the job together ........

    A Chinese saying is apt here - A good leader is someone when the task is complete, their followers feel we did it ourselves.

    Maybe they need to ask themself if they have given the task to the employee at a time they can get the work done while still getting their existing work done and if that employee even knows how to do the work. In the example used the work was given to someone who had not been given any information to go on. They had not ever done that work before and they were asking for direction. Instead of doing that (which is what the boss should do) he just takes the work back... then it doesn't get done at all because they are too busy. My boss is bad for this sort of thing.

    Thank you for these wonderful videos, my manager used to delegate performance review of other staff to one staff, is that proper, are there other things that shouldn't be delegated? Thank you again.

    • @BerndGeropp
      @BerndGeropp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks.
      If your manager has more than 7+ people, he probably established a team organisation, so that he directly only leads the team managers who then lead the other team members. Then it's the repsonsibility of the team leaders to do the performance reviews with the staff they are in charge of. That is ok.
      If that is not the case and your manager just delegates the performance reviews to someone else, that is in my opinion not ok.
