Hi. I have had this angle grinder for over a yr now and totally agree with your comments. Easy to take up on roofs to cut tile for flues etc. Love the channel. Thank you
Thanks, Lee. I was quite surprised with the power from this grinder, I wonder if it's worth spending the extra money for the brushless version as that should be even better. Thanks for the comment
Lee Edwards morning, I'm guessing you are in the roofing trade? (I am myself) The variety of cordless power tools is really changing things for the better.
I have just brought my second one of this model because my original was stolen.I see your comments are 5 years old lol but thought I'd comment any way. I am a refrigeration enginer and for my job this is perfect impressive power and my thoughts for the brushless model the grip Is larger and trigger action makes it harder for using in awkward positions so this is why I prefer this model. Also I belive with the entry brushless you do benefit from longer run time per battery.
Yes, I have been considering doing this for a few months but have been to busy to put a video together. A grinder is one of the most useful power tools, perhaps as useful as a drill as they can be used for a variety of things! Thanks for the comment ;-)
RetroSteveUK Grinders have hundreds of uses for the typical & advanced homeowner. I am a more advanced user because I weld; however, I have already burned out a few electric grinders with my daily stuff. One cordless grinder use I found particularly helpful related to me replacing my car's rusted subframe. I found a solid subframe at a local junk yard but all the bushing bolts were rusted tight. Since you can't bring torches or electric tools into a junk yard, I took my cordless grinder with me and buzzed right through those rusty subframe bolts. As I said, grinders have hundreds of uses!
I use mine in fabrication, engineering, automotive, around the house and garden in fact it’s my first choice ( I have seven others to choose from) saves my two dogs ragging the cord around the garden as is so portable and versatile I would recommend it to anyone. If you have the XR battery system get one on your your Christmas wants list quick. Thanks to UltimateHandyMan for another top notch review, without him I still be in the dark ages! It’s never too late to change.
Pretty impressive I’ve got mine coming in a few days perfect as a ground worker for all sorts of jobs glad I got this particular model and interesting to know the batteries fit all cordless machines
theyve come a long way, makita used to make a 12v mini grinder and it couldnt cut paper without stalling, that and a demo saw that took jigsaw blades, complete toys they were and why people like me stayed well away from these and only now see they are comparable to ac tools
Nice demo chez , i have just bought the Hilti 22 volt 115mm grinder having burnt out my trusty Makita 18 volt after many years of good service , i must say i was tempted to get the DeWalt one but having used my mates Hilti for a few days i was so impressed with it i had to get one , very expensive compared to any other but the power is awesome and the 5.0 ah battery seems to last for days without charging............ cheers mate : )
yensabi I loved my makita until some little shit done my van and nicked all my gear, jumped to the xr platform now and love the way they perform but can't get used to the handle on the grinder.
My didn’t come with a manual, so maybe I put the blade on wrong, but the first time I tried to use it the blade scraped against the guard. I couldn’t find any way to adjust it, so I had to remove the guard. It didn’t come with the pin wrench you showed either, just an Allen wrench.
Was it brand new? They normally come with the pin wrench. Also, Your model is not a 4-inch grinder is it, perhaps the disk is for a 4.5-inch grinder? Thanks for the comment 👍
4:45 Just a bit after this time stamp, you can see the cutting disc breaking down and raw fiberglass and friction material coming off in an orange-brown coursed fog ... the disc is just about used up! :) .. This is because the disc itself is passing by the cut material WAY below it's idea 80 metres per second cutting speed (atual "linear metre per second cutting speed" slows naturally as the disc shrinks in size) What I do? ... Is stop cutting and save these now about 3" diametre discs to use in my little Dewalt Cut Off Tool :) A bushing adapter is needed but they are cheap enough ... OR?? .. you can find a washer to fit fairly easily ... for 22mm to 10mm arbours' size difference The cut off tool runs much quicker RPM s the disc has another full life in it!
I’m now moving over to 18v Dewalt XR tools, which is why you will be seeing some Dewalt reviews over the coming months. This is the best cordless angle grinder that I have ever used! I bought mine from here- fave.co/2h5q6kg Please like, comment and share the video as it really helps me out. Thanks in advance ;-)
Thanks, but they are very expensive as I would have to buy the batteries and charger too. I'm sticking with Dewalt XR from now on as I have about 6 batteries. Thanks for the comment
I converted to Dewalt as my cousin has 18volt tools and it means that when we work together we have a lot of battery power at our disposal. I've used and abused my Dewalt tools and I must say they really do take some beating. I normally buy body only for the very reason you state. I'm looking for this sort of tool and whether a corded or un-corded one, so this has made up my mind which one to go for. Thanks so much for the review 😀
Hello again, your videos are really good, well made, well thought out and edited, and, best of all no background music! Actually though, I should stop watching your videos because I am spending a lot of money. I nearly rushed it and bought this grinder using the link that you provided, I realised that this particular Dewalt is not brushless. The Dewalt brushless model though is £80 dearer. I must admit that I probably won’t use it that much. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you and pass on my kind regards to Wayne Burgess.
Nice review. I'm also a fan of this 18v Dewalt kit. I have the Makita 18v grinder too which is very similar actually but I find usually Makita is slightly slower rpm and less torque generally like for like with Dewalt. I'll be watching for more of these videos. They are very handy. 👍
Thank you for making a useful video. What I mean is you actually tested the tool. I watched several videos where they read the info of the box, did a bit of grinding and said "yep I like it" lol. Reading reviews on line some complaints about battery life. Seems battery life is acceptable, seeing how many cuts it made through a bolt. I will be buying one. Again Thank you... subscribed
Thanks, Yeah, I have seen a few reviews where they just read the manufacturers blurb and then say what a great tool it is 😂 This grinder is great, for a cordless! The batteries drain quickly, but I once borrowed a Makita and it was not half as good as this grinder! Thanks for the comment and the sub 👍
I'll look out for one of those. This grinder came in really useful a few weeks back when I was removing an asbestos roof from a farm building, I could cut the top from the bolts from a ladder, then slide the sheets down without breaking any of them. That job alone made me glad to have this grinder 😉 Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman I dont know how i managed without one for years.Certainly less tiring than a hacksaw...dont think ive used a hacksaw once since cordless grinders came on the scene.
I have the Markita version off this at work. Really great pieces of kit. We used them regularly for cutting upvc facial and soffits. There are easier to use for this kind of work than hand/circular saws. Great vid thank you for uploading it 👍🏻
Ultimate Handyman thanks for the reply. Believe it or not a diamond tipped multipurpose blade works really well. It makes the job of cutting a few inches off a 5meter length of soffit board while on scaffolding both easy and safe. Great channel looking forward to your next vid.
Is there a difference between the angle grinders that so 20v on them, or is this the same thing? If you search dcg412 on Home Depot, the body of this grinder say 20V, not 18 like this one. Is the one on homedepot better?
I’ve stopped using electric grinders years ago. Burnt up motors from medium use was too costly. We started buying high end industrial pneumatic grinders like henrytools and topcat grinders and never looked back.
Not sure! If you had an abrasive disc on the machine it would be much different to a diamond disc which are mainly metal. I'm not sure of the electricity would damage the electrics of the grinder though.
Ultimate Handyman would you please try it for me? Haha. Im just trying to think of ways to sabotage these portable grinders. They are used in motorcycle crime a lot.
I'll give that test a miss LOL. The government needs to take crime seriously. Crime is good for the government, it keeps the police, prison service, probation officers, judges and solicitors in work, whilst keeping the tax payers in a state of fear ;-)
i have 1 of the same... but im not comfortable with the balance of this grinder...most grinder have a click hold button but this u have to keep hold til finish...it feels it needs to be always 2 hands holding as to makita grinder it feels comfortable with just 1 hand...performance is alright...just handling side of this is what i mark this down on....enough for me to say dont but this type...
Yes, but the grinder does have a spindle lock, so you can remove them like this in some cases- th-cam.com/video/mynXdjCQ3a0/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the comment 👍
I've not tried that model yet, but I have tried the Milwaukee 18v brushless and the 5AH battery enables much more cuts on the 3/4 inch UNC bolt than this model. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@jonienglish3231 Most cordless grinders are fatter to grip than the Dewalt in this video, but even then they are much narrower than a traditional mains powered machine, which reminds me- I need to get the review of the Milwaukee finished!
Thanks, yes I saw the brushless version but it was about £90 more expensive. If I was using it everyday I would have opted for the brushless version, but this one will suit me just fine ;-) Thanks for the comment
Looking forward to your future DeWalt reviews Chez, although in my case you’re preaching to the choir, lol I have many of the 20V XR tools (as they are marketed here in the US, even though they’re actually 18V, not sure how they get away with that...) the most recent purchase was the XR version of the compact reciprocating saw, very handy for getting into tight spots, like between wall studs... Have the Flexvolt batteries made it to the UK yet ?, I’m sure they have. Last Christmas one of the big box stores over here had a deal I just couldn’t refuse, I bought the 60V ( actually 54V ) Flexvolt Grinder, they were selling it in a kit with 2 batteries and a fast charger for the price of the bare tool ! I don’t really have much use for a grinder, although they ARE so versatile fitted with the right disc, but bought it mainly for the batteries ~ the Flexvolt batteries are backwards compatible with the 20V tools and provide even longer runtime than the XR batteries ! You should put one on your grinder and see how many more cuts you could make on that bolt ! Thanks for another great video Chez, I’ll be looking out for the next one, 👍🏼
Thanks Tom, we have the flexvolt over here (54v) but if you use it on a 18v machine it's like using a 6AH battery. I will look out for any flexvolt bargains or other 18v XR tools as I'm slowly building up my collection after selling my XRP power tools. I always look out for bare machines versus machines with batteries as you point out, sometimes you get a great bargain which is cheaper than buying the bare tool. Thanks for the comment ;-)
XR and XRP is a completely different battery system, using different tools and chargers- they are not interchangeable, but you can get a convertor- th-cam.com/video/P_lmKTYUf4Y/w-d-xo.html
Ultimate Handyman that is not the case my dcd996 is xrp and is fully compatible with all my xr tools and the Flex volt batteries.. I have had a little look at some sites since posting first question and it looks like it is just a premium or heavy duty version of the xr range. Obviously just a marketing ploy but is a fantastic drill, that is coming from a life long makita fan boy as well. I know there were previously xrp tools on a different battery system which I really was not a fan of.
Watched your reviews of this and the milwaukee grinder, can safley say ive meade my mind up, if the milwaukee keeps doing the overload cut out thats a definate downer
Yeah, I'm not sure if that is a problem because of the fact that the Milwaukee is brushless and the Dewalt has brushes. I still prefer the Dewalt, it's a cracking piece of kit and much cheaper ;-) Thanks for the comment
It took ages if I remember correctly. With todays modern batteries these grinders last ages, compared to the old Ni-Cad batteries. Thanks for the comment
Ultimate Handyman do you think it would last 3 hours I am taking a welding class and we have a porter cable battery grinder and it eats up battery’s and I love the cordless so do you think it will last a few hours
No, it will not last for 3 hours. I think my battery is 5AH and it probably lasted about 20-30 minutes, but that includes a lot of stop/starts whilst adjusting the bolts in the vice etc.
Hi Jo, I'm not sure about in the US. Over here we had the old 18v XRP batteries which were suitable for XRP machines only, the newer machines are XR batteries, all still 18v. For some reason they market them as 20v in the states. From what I can see by searching Google it looks like the batteries for this grinder are 18v XR in the UK, but 20v Max in the US. Thanks for the comment ;-)
This is the ultimate burglars tool. I hope you have to provide identification to buy one. It looks fantastic, I want one for work! but just see it being instantly stolen off site as soon as I put it down, does it come with a belt clip? ☺
If a burglar comes tooled up with a cordless angle grinder there is not much you can do to stop them, unless you have a gun ;-) It's a great piece of kit, mine did not come with a belt clip but I'm not sure if they are available as an extra. Thanks for the comment
It's that long since I made the video that I can't remember which battery I used (without watching the video again), if I used the 4AH battery the runtime will be approximately half for the 2AH or vice versa. Thanks for the comment
Thanks good review, have been looking at this grinder as have dwalt cordless tools..Seen same as you on ebay, and am now about to purchase one...The price with batterys is ridiculous,so it defiantly pays to already own Dwalt products...Thanks..
Hi chaz , great independent Review. Out of all the grinders ( cordless)..... Which is the most versatile and ergonomic in your opinion ?? Thanks Steven .
I've not tried all makes of grinder, but I used to have a Milwaukee on site- th-cam.com/video/XQW00D0ndeg/w-d-xo.html&t We had a Bosch in the toolroom on site - th-cam.com/video/Jqi0F8dnGsA/w-d-xo.html&t I also borrowed my mates Makita a few months back, just to see how it compared (it was crap). I think it would be a toss up between the Dewalt in this video and the Bosch, although the Dewalt accepts the larger 5" discs, so I'd go for the Dewalt 👍 I've never tried Metabo, Hilti, Festool or Fein as they are too expensive for most people. Thanks for the comment 👍
+Ultimate Handyman love the channel. I need your advice please.I've been offered the DCD796 combi drill with 2x 4ah batteries for £140, or £185 with 2x 5ah batteries. For DIY, do you think it's worth paying the extra £45 for the slightly bigger batteries? I know you have both so thought you'd know best.
No, it's not worth the extra money. 2X 4AH batteries will be ample, even for most tradesmen as it only takes one hour for the other battery to charge. Thanks for the comment
I think this is true for many people at first, but as mentioned you do get used to them. Fact is, you can't live without them they are so essential to any work.
Just bought this for my dad and I got a battery and charger for free. I wanted to get him the other grinder the brushless one but he doesn't need all the extra fancy stuff.
As it happens I ordered a Dewalt 18v chainsaw about 2 weeks back but there was some problem with delivery so it won't be here until next week. The Stihl version looks good, but I already have the Dewalt batteries and charger. I can't wait to try it out ;-0 Thanks for the comment
Ultimate Handyman I have dewalt also and can not fault them what so ever 😃 keep up with the videos they have helped me quite a lot recently with moving to a house in a mess 😂😂 👍 cheers.
Sorry, I have just realised that your first post was about the electric Stihl saw, not the electric Stihl chainsaw. Stihl normally make good gear, so I'm sure it will be fine ;-) I'm glad the videos help. Thanks for the comment
Question for those of you who own one - what's the noise like? My corded sounds like a Boeing starting up, and as my man cave is in a small garden, I cringe at the noise as I like to avoid disturbing the neighbours too much. My corded is a B&Q McAllister - does the job just fine, but bugger me it's loud. Anyone able to shed some light?
I'm sure mine is about the same volume as a mains powered machine, perhaps even a little quieter. It sounds like yours might have a fault! I love mine, it's a great piece of kit. Thanks for the comment
Thanks for that review... vary impassive I will have to get one. I have just brought the jigsaw that takes the same batteries so it will be perfect... and thanks for all the videos you have made... keep up the good work my friend... cheers :-)
Hi there Mr @@ultimatehandyman I went to Ebay on your link... and the price had gone down to £99.99 result... I also brought 2 x 5 ah battery for £100 so i'm well happy...It will be interesting to see how it performs on a piece of hard stone.... maybe I should make a video :-) I haven't made a video for ages.
@@2HELNBAK Ok, That's a flap disc, they are great for cleaning steel etc. fave.co/2PHBzuh If you need to remove paint, these are good- fave.co/2PJhILc Video here- th-cam.com/video/aMQMk7J94u8/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps ;-)
I agree this is one of the best 18v grinders on the market and is very handy, but it won't stand up to the abuse as well as a mains powered grinder purely because of how small the gears are inside the head. I recently took a broken one apart and it looked like all the grease had stuck to the lid of the gearbox rather than lubricating the gears and as a result it was only fit for the bin so it might be a good idea to check yours is well lubricated. It had a strange green grease inside.
Nice review good performance from that battery too. I like that trigger. Those diamond discs look good too. I got the 18v Makita it's a good tool but it's got the same switch as the corded which can be abit clumsy.
Thanks, Zed Man. I only have one Makita tool which is a core drill, they used to be too expensive for me which is why I normally get Dewalt (Makita have come down in price a bit now). The diamonds discs are excellent ;-) Thanks for the comment
The bearings just gone on my Dewalt Grinder. Its the exact same model as shown. Not used excessively so slightly annoying. I will replace the bearing for around £7 !!!
I can see why that would be annoying. I hope my bearings last a decade, as my last Dewalt grinder lasted that long with zero issues. Thanks for the comment 👍
Not sure what XR stands for but it refers to the battery type. The newer models are XR, the older style batteries were XRP (you can get brushed or brushless XR tools) Thanks for the comment 👍
Ultimate Handyman the power and runtime on the new brushless one is phenomenal! Especially when paired with a 6ah battery. Also, if you’re looking for a cordless die grinder, dewalts new cordless, brushless model is the way to go
Ultimate Handyman yeah, it’s brand a brand new tool. (I’m not affiliated with Dewalt but I think they got some really neat tools and have no problem recommending them to others)
they are taking over, modern tradesmen dont even carry a mains drill anymore, a recent one i had , used a cordless circular saw, and his dewalt cordless SDS went through a 6x6 reinforced concrete post for some holes like i couldnt believe. Have you reviewed or used the diamond cutting discs for steel yet? a bit pricey but seem to be worth it as they dont get smaller.
The Dewalt XR stuff is much better than the older XRP, it is really impressive although the XRP stuff was good enough for me ;-) I have seen the diamond cutting discs for steel, they seem to be much more popular in the US and are not really seen much over here yet. I think the ones I saw were made by Lenox, I'll see about getting hold of one to try. Thanks for the comment.
Ultimate Handyman 100% cheers. Just out of curiosity have you had to swop out any of the brushes yet on any of your dewalts? Just wondering how long they would typically last against say Milwaukees
I changed the brushes on my old Dewalt XRP drill a couple of times but it had about 9 years of use. The brushes should last years under normal use. I'm not happy with Milwaukee as another batter was shaken to pieces last week on site, when using the impact wrench! Thanks for the comment
18v tools in the UK are sold as 20v tools in the USA and some other countries (I do not know why) This model uses XR batteries, not the older XRP batteries. This is not a brushless grinder, which is why it does not say "brushless" in the headline. Link to grinder for sale in the UK- fave.co/3Dh0lpc Thanks for the comment 👍

You should always use two hands when using a grinder ;-)
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman in situations wen u need to hold object in one and grinder in one...makita feels comfortable this dewalt dont...
Thank you for the demonstration it was absolutely helpful 👍
Do you need a Wrench to insert / remove Discs?
Yes, but the grinder does have a spindle lock, so you can remove them like this in some cases- th-cam.com/video/mynXdjCQ3a0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the comment 👍
how does it Compare with the DCG413B - Brushless
I've not tried that model yet, but I have tried the Milwaukee 18v brushless and the 5AH battery enables much more cuts on the 3/4 inch UNC bolt than this model.
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman just picked this one up on sale $99.99 CAD - the Brushless one does not look Comfortable TOO FAT to Grip
@@jonienglish3231 Most cordless grinders are fatter to grip than the Dewalt in this video, but even then they are much narrower than a traditional mains powered machine, which reminds me- I need to get the review of the Milwaukee finished!
Great video. Dewalt make great tools. Most construction guys I know use their cordless tools.
Thanks for the comment, David ;-)
Would it work with a 2 AH battery?? cheers
Yes, but the battery would soon loose it's charge 👍
I use my DCG412 all the time,in fact its my most used tool...more than my drill even.
Did you know Dewalt have just released an 18v Brushless grinder?
Thanks, yes I saw the brushless version but it was about £90 more expensive. If I was using it everyday I would have opted for the brushless version, but this one will suit me just fine ;-)
Thanks for the comment
For some reason, the 18v brushless is more expensive than the Flexvolt...it just dont make sense!
Hi. Where do you purchase the marcrist diamond tile blades From? Regards Lee
Hi Lee, I think I bought it from a seller on ebay
fave.co/2CH89ox
Thanks for the comment
Looking forward to your future DeWalt reviews Chez, although in my case you’re preaching to the choir, lol
I have many of the 20V XR tools (as they are marketed here in the US, even though they’re actually 18V, not sure how they get away with that...) the most recent purchase was the XR version of the compact reciprocating saw, very handy for getting into tight spots, like between wall studs...
Ultimate Handyman what is the difference between the xr and xrp, I bought a load of the xr range but the drill is xrp where the rest is xr.
Tom Gorham they are very careful to advertise as 20v max as any 18v will charge to 20v just like any 10.8 will charge to 12v.
I know there were previously xrp tools on a different battery system which I really was not a fan of.
thanks for the video, now i will order one for me.. my drill and this one works with same XR batteries.
This is a great piece of kit, I hope you get years of use from it ;-)
Thanks for the comment 👍
Why i can't use one full charge battery only 3 minuet
Perhaps the batteries are old and not holding their charge fully?
Watched your reviews of this and the milwaukee grinder, can safley say ive meade my mind up, if the milwaukee keeps doing the overload cut out thats a definate downer
Yeah, I'm not sure if that is a problem because of the fact that the Milwaukee is brushless and the Dewalt has brushes. I still prefer the Dewalt, it's a cracking piece of kit and much cheaper ;-)
Thanks for the comment
How long did it take to kill the battery when cutting the bolts
It took ages if I remember correctly.
With todays modern batteries these grinders last ages, compared to the old Ni-Cad batteries.
Thanks for the comment
Ultimate Handyman do you think it would last 3 hours I am taking a welding class and we have a porter cable battery grinder and it eats up battery’s and I love the cordless so do you think it will last a few hours
No, it will not last for 3 hours. I think my battery is 5AH and it probably lasted about 20-30 minutes, but that includes a lot of stop/starts whilst adjusting the bolts in the vice etc.
So, I'm assuming this doesn't work with the 20v battery system?

If a burglar comes tooled up with a cordless angle grinder there is not much you can do to stop them, unless you have a gun ;-)
It's a great piece of kit, mine did not come with a belt clip but I'm not sure if they are available as an extra.

Ultimate Handyman. Hahahahahaha, too true mate, gun or a fire hose! ☺ (I'm writing to Santa as soon as I finish this, to see if She'll get Me one☺)
Great video,
Can you please do a follow up with 2.0 and 4.0 ah battery comparison.
Thanks,
It's that long since I made the video that I can't remember which battery I used (without watching the video again), if I used the 4AH battery the runtime will be approximately half for the 2AH or vice versa.

Can use it with one hand if need+?
You could, but it is dangerous!

I've not tried all makes of grinder, but I used to have a Milwaukee on site- th-cam.com/video/XQW00D0ndeg/w-d-xo.html&t
We had a Bosch in the toolroom on site - th-cam.com/video/Jqi0F8dnGsA/w-d-xo.html&t
I also borrowed my mates Makita a few months back, just to see how it compared (it was crap).
I think it would be a toss up between the Dewalt in this video and the Bosch, although the Dewalt accepts the larger 5" discs, so I'd go for the Dewalt 👍
I've never tried Metabo, Hilti, Festool or Fein as they are too expensive for most people.
Thanks for the comment 👍
I need to get myself one of this. Thanks for the video you sure know your stuff very well.

Exactly as i thought. Thanks for replying.
The angle grinder is my most feared tool, I always try to avoid using one 😂
They are great when you get used to them, providing you wear the correct protective equipment ;-)

I think this is true for many people at first, but as mentioned you do get used to them. Fact is, you can't live without them they are so essential to any work.
Why?, it is easy to use, do you say it for the sparks??????? In my case i Love to use this tool, it is an easy and fastest way to cut materiales.
Just bought this for my dad and I got a battery and charger for free. I wanted to get him the other grinder the brushless one but he doesn't need all the extra fancy stuff.
This is a great tool, I use mine all the time ;-)

I think a good review for you to do would be the electric stihl saw. I'm curious to know how it would cope being put to the test properly
As it happens I ordered a Dewalt 18v chainsaw about 2 weeks back but there was some problem with delivery so it won't be here until next week. The Stihl version looks good, but I already have the Dewalt batteries and charger. I can't wait to try it out ;-0

Stihl normally make good gear, so I'm sure it will be fine ;-)

Question for those of you who own one - what's the noise like? My corded sounds like a Boeing starting up, and as my man cave is in a small garden, I cringe at the noise as I like to avoid disturbing the neighbours too much.
My corded is a B&Q McAllister - does the job just fine, but bugger me it's loud.
Anyone able to shed some light?
I'm sure mine is about the same volume as a mains powered machine, perhaps even a little quieter.
It sounds like yours might have a fault!

I've never used one, sorry.
No worries + thanks for your time.
Was looking at this exact one a couple weeks ago but stopped myself from getting it because I never really need one 🤣
That's no excuse 😂
I agree this is one of the best 18v grinders on the market and is very handy, but it won't stand up to the abuse as well as a mains powered grinder purely because of how small the gears are inside the head.
I recently took a broken one apart and it looked like all the grease had stuck to the lid of the gearbox rather than lubricating the gears and as a result it was only fit for the bin so it might be a good idea to check yours is well lubricated. It had a strange green grease inside.
Thanks for the comment
The heads are similar size on all grinders, mains or otherwise, what nonsense are you talking about?
Nice review good performance from that battery too. I like that trigger. Those diamond discs look good too. I got the 18v Makita it's a good tool but it's got the same switch as the corded which can be abit clumsy.
Thanks, Zed Man. I only have one Makita tool which is a core drill, they used to be too expensive for me which is why I normally get Dewalt (Makita have come down in price a bit now).
The diamonds discs are excellent ;-)

The bearings just gone on my Dewalt Grinder. Its the exact same model as shown. Not used excessively so slightly annoying. I will replace the bearing for around £7 !!!

Ultimate Handyman the power and runtime on the new brushless one is phenomenal! Especially when paired with a 6ah battery.

I didn't realise Dewalt made a die grinder, I'll check them out ;-)

Ultimate Handyman yeah, it’s brand a brand new tool. (I’m not affiliated with Dewalt but I think they got some really neat tools and have no problem recommending them to others)
P0tat07 is that even available in the UK? If so, from where?
they are taking over, modern tradesmen dont even carry a mains drill anymore, a recent one i had , used a cordless circular saw, and his dewalt cordless SDS went through a 6x6 reinforced concrete post for some holes like i couldnt believe. Have you reviewed or used the diamond cutting discs for steel yet? a bit pricey but seem to be worth it as they dont get smaller.
The Dewalt XR stuff is much better than the older XRP, it is really impressive although the XRP stuff was good enough for me ;-)
I have seen the diamond cutting discs for steel, they seem to be much more popular in the US and are not really seen much over here yet. I think the ones I saw were made by Lenox, I'll see about getting hold of one to try.

Ultimate Handyman 100% cheers. Just out of curiosity have you had to swop out any of the brushes yet on any of your dewalts? Just wondering how long they would typically last against say Milwaukees

The brushes should last years under normal use.

Wrong headline it is a Dewalt DCG412 20V Max cordless grinder, NOT XR model, not 18V, not brushless
18v tools in the UK are sold as 20v tools in the USA and some other countries (I do not know why)
This model uses XR batteries, not the older XRP batteries.
This is not a brushless grinder, which is why it does not say "brushless" in the headline.
