    That Dark Horse may make me a convert from H-D. The suspension is the biggest reason. I did a test ride the other day, and even in the short distance I was allowed to ride, it felt awesome.

    • @BrandonBicasso
      @BrandonBicasso  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the suspension is pretty good. You can't go wrong with either HD or Indian nowadays, though. There's some take and give with both.

    My current ride is a ‘17 H-D CVO Street Glide, first new bike ever, first bagger ever. I went all out building it. Stage IV, ported heads, 16” apes, it’s kind of ridiculous. Lol. VERY powerful and fast bike, but also incredibly comfortable for those 500+ mile per day rides, which I do a lot.
    I rode a Chieftain Dark Horse 116 recently as well, and I have to say, it rides really nice. Good, even power delivery throughout the rpm range, and very comfy... love the adjustable windscreen, and a few other features. Personal preference wise, I still prefer my glide, in terms of looks, the batwing fairing is tough to beat IMO, but that’s all a matter of personal taste.
    The one thing that concerns me with Indian, is not the bikes themselves, or even the company itself, it’s the parent company being Polaris and the way they did their loyal fan base with the whole victory debacle. I have quite a few buddies that ride victory bikes and they all feel as though Polaris screwed them long term because parts availability will dwindle significantly over time, and now that everyone knows that, their bikes’ value plummeted immediately. If Indian sales were to dip, I can see Polaris doing the same thing with them. Maybe it’d be different and the iconic Indian name would be attractive for a buyout by another American company, but Polaris lost a lot of trust with that victory move.

    • @Rip_Ripple
      @Rip_Ripple 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the issue that I am having. I really like the Chieftain Dark horse, especially with the stage 3 kit. I am looking at getting my first bagger and going all out as well. I just do not want Polaris to give up on Indian like they did Victory. The really have a good product. If I spend top dollar to buy the bike then go all out accessorizing it, I would like to think that the company will be around.

      Indian is using the shocks you would find on the bigger ultra bikes. Longer travel, less sporty longer shocks.

    • @mattshaggs2931
      @mattshaggs2931 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Polaris was losing money with Victory and sales were consistently declining after their 2012 peak. Indian, meanwhile, broke into double-digit market share in three years...something Victory was never able to do in 19 years or even at its sales peak. I liked the Victory bikes...but at the same time, if you have a brand that's taking off and you can't build enough of them and a brand that sales are dropping, you're losing money and redesigns/updates need to happen...which one do you put the resources into?
      Indian isn't going anywhere. Sales are steadily increasing by double-digit percentages while Harley sales are falling by just as much. That's doesn't mean Harley is going anywhere, either. I have a feeling they will both be with us for a long time...as long as they both stay fresh. I have lots of Harley riding friends and I tell them that Indian was the best thing to happen to Harley. They updated engines, improved suspensions and improved the infotainment..all things that, simply, Indian was/is doing better.
      Oh, and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed you don't lunch that stage 4 M8...apparently, they like to come apart.

    • @Mildern
      @Mildern 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that will be an issue with Indian. They dropped Victory to capitalize on the Indian brand because of it's history and how iconic the brand is. It obviously turned out to be the right choice if you look at market share. I don't think there is a more iconic brand name that would cause the same kind of move going forward.

    • @davefontaine5816
      @davefontaine5816 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John M I’d love to have your confidence. Their market share went up initially, similar to when victory came out, but as soon as sales dipped, they shitcanned the whole brand. I’m not confident that they wouldn’t do the same with Indian if they were to see a similar sales dip after the initial boon

    I rode a 111 and 116 back to back yesterday. I think I liked the feel of the 111 better. The 116 definitely had noticeably more power/torque, but it was in a different place. And the throttle felt a bit "choppy". I didn't think to experiment with ride modes tho.. so perhaps that might have helped. I was in "standard" mode for both bikes.

    • @BrandonBicasso
      @BrandonBicasso  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Brandon, is this 111 with the 116 kit the same engine with timing fuel mapping, cams etc as the 2020model 116 that come. I wondering how that $2800 shows the sticker price of the 2020? @mrvwbug4423 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would be interested to see a dyno chart of the 116. The M109 is a beast, has roll-on torque that HD or Indian can only dream of normally. The M109 also loves to corner, just watch out for the pegs, it is really easy to drag pegs on the M109.

    • @BrandonBicasso
      @BrandonBicasso  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      109 for performance. The high rev nature of it is intoxicating. Handing wise the 116 has a better lean angle, but the 109 is satisfying to lean through sweepers.

      Depending on price, probably the Chieftain simply because of the fairing and the touch screen ride command. Both look great, but that added feature is a plus. If I didn't want the fairing and did hangers, I'd go Springfield. The 111 felt faster than the 116 I'm guessing because of the Springfield set up. So, I'd imagine the 116 would be crazy. Lol.

    I do not want anyone attacking me.But I do not think this bike looks like the street glide the saddlebags looks different,the cylinder head covers look different,the fairing looks different.Is it similar to the bat wing of the Harley Street Glide,absolutely!It's still a Batwing fairing,but I can see the lines and they look different.Harley has no color on the market right now that matches this.So yes it's a Touring bike yes it has Saddlebags but I believe this Indian looks different and I can tell it looks different.(Besides i am uh Harley fan 2018 Olive Gold Road King Special).So for me to say this.I am speaking what i feel.Indian has got me on this go around.I'm just skeptical with the on going paint and few electrical issue slash fuel issue i red about on recalls online with the Road Master/Chieftain Limited.Harley has uh few issues going on with the M8 and i Purchased one at $24,000.So at the end of the day your taking uh risk regardless.Enjoy life.Buy the Bike!Man this Bronze make me wanna cop another Touring Motorcycle.😭

    I might have to get me some Indian. I have been waiting for the right bike to come along. Then I'll have a Victory, a Harley, and an Indian. The trinity. They do make a real nice leather heat shield to protect your leg from the heat. Something akin to the fender on a western saddle. Next time you and that Indian get a room like decent folk do. I am sure that you have already violated some snowflake stricture of TH-cam.

    I'm 5' 11' tall, and I also felt cramped on the 2018, Indian Classic because the seat put me in a position too close to the dash, but not on the 2019. Indian Chieftain that had the 116 engine and the new seat that moved me farther away from the dash. In my opinion after I rode both bikes, the new style seat on the 2019 , Indian Chieftain is much more comfortable. I absolutely loved the roll on power of the 116 and the DEEP roar of the stage one mufflers when ever I nailed the throttle on the 116. Taking off from a stop and then waiting to hear the DEEP rumble of the exhaust when ever I wound out the gears was like a drug addiction.

    • @BrandonBicasso

      Oh yeah! The 116 engine puts out an exhaust sound that you can't get enough of.

      At 5'10" I felt the 2018 chieftain was a little light on legroom, but the seat to dash distance was ok, slightly better than the street glide. The HDs definitely have more footroom once you ditch the heel shifter. I liked the road glide the best out of the HDs, even if that fairing is yuuuggeee. The sound of that 116 is really nice though.

    Indian want to sell Chieftains. Ok. This is how you do it. Give us this bike, with lowers, speaker lids on the saddlebags, a real brake pedal and a tour pack option for
    an amazing $18 to 20k. That's it and it aint hard to figure out, or I can get a Kawasaki Vaquero for way less than that and customize it with plenty of change left over..

  • @ut1004bp
    @ut1004bp 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yea, cant really compare that with your Scout, totally different class, but Indian will have to hope someone else buys this bike at $30,000 plus dollars...lol. find yourself a good, used Yamaha Roadstar bagger or Stratoliner for 5 grand and enjoy riding with little worries.

    • @BrandonBicasso
      @BrandonBicasso  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not gonna lie... That Chieftain had me wanting to go in debt, lol. It's a nice ride and I can say I felt something when riding it. I probably would on a street glide or anything else, but this one felt right.

    • @ut1004bp
      @ut1004bp 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well before you take on such a price, try a good used alternative, 1700 Roadstar or Stratoliner 1900 and see if the Indian 116 still has that big shine to it. But with that said, when/if I trade or sell my Stratoliner, I would certainly consider the new model Indians

  • @rmccain99

    Indian was before Harley, so Indian is not looking like a Harley. Harley is looking like Indian.

    • @chrissmith2492
      @chrissmith2492 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      indian might have been before harley, but they have been in and out of business over the years, while harley has remained. they had a real unique look with the chieftain, but now this just looks like an imitation street glide, the street glide was 1st and they made this look like it. i am a bike enthusiast i have no brand loyalty if its good i will ride and buy it, i think the dash
      looks quite antiquated compared 2 the harleys, i dont know why with a complete overhaul they didn't make that look better. i will say this about indian, they give u a lot of stuff stock that u would have 2 get a cvo 2 get on a harley. i also love the sound out of the gate.

    • @tax905972
      @tax905972 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harley made the fairing with saddlebags, no lower fairings or tour pack popular long before Indian as well as victory and all the others out there. It came to be in 2006 before Indian made a comeback .it came to be with the street glide because many riders removed those tour packs and lower fairings from their Electra classics.

      @@ugoboy99 I'll try to state that next time. At the demo rides I don't have the chance to get more in depth with info on them. Some demo day instructors are already funny about people recording as is lol.

    Put that stupid warning sticker somewhere other than the top of the gas tank. If Indian is going to copy Harley-Davidson at least put it on the air cleaner like they do.
