AdamGen88, rtv: probably it was a black Permatex tube or something. you can use any other rtv as long as its specification fits the working conditions (hi temperature, oil resistant etc). bearings: there are special bearing removal tools available in the market. you can see some of them in "DSM transmission - 01 - Disassembly" @ 0:15 - 0:32. you use them if you want to reuse the bearings. shims: shims (spacers) control the clearance between races and the cover body and make a given preload
hi, I cannot comment on the partnumber since I don't have caps/asa installed on my new laptop yet. but, yeah, that small cap in question was an oil seal. good luck w/ your rebuild :)
Hey Im currently rebuilding my w5m33, and I dont have that little thing that goes ontop of 5th gear, that you put on at 2;58, what is that? Im looking at the ASA and the only thing I found that small is called a oil seal (MD739390)
Took to the carwash and asked to clean the case from inside. After, took the case to guys who sandblasted it and powder coated. The metal levers and bolts (exterior stuff) were "nickelized" galvanically so the appear as chrome. I'm not a big fan of chrome and other flashing styling however. Nickel was the only chemical available at that time and I wanted the parts done "at once, at place". So, nickel.
Hey, ya that part number I put is the plug that I need, I never noticed it before but when I went into the shop the next day I noticed a small rubber plug in there, so Ill have to get a new one, another question for you though, how did you get the bearing races out? and when you went to shim the races, did you just do the top bearing races or did you do both?
Welcome! Glad to hear someone found it helpful :)
