Re the WiFi - try talking to other people in the hostel?
I spent 3 weeks on my own traveling up the coast of Wales & around the Scottish coast and the best part was being able to talk to to the new people I met in each place I stopped.

and in re of the insurance, you’re right! So the car rental company did provide insurance coverage in accordance with legal requirements, just that I didn’t go for the optional loss damage waiver provided by the company for this trip 🥲 (always goes for the waiver opt after this 🤣
