They had an almost functional airport, a seaport on the way and a bright future. This coupled with the tens of billions of dollars donated by the world should have led to a middle eastern riviera.
But…. The donations went to buy weapons and into private accounts of the kleptocratic governments leaders. The airport was destroyed by Israel after a large shipment of arms was brought in through there. The port was also disallowed. Then there are the families of combatants who were either invited or forced to be martyred for the Islamist cause. Note. As stated by the Islamists themselves their goal is to exterminate the Jews. Since God removed Judah's last king, king Zedekiah from His land and given Judah(Jews) into captivity to Babylonians, God never expected Judah(Jews) to rule His city Jerusalem since then and gave to Chaldeans, then to Persians, then to Grecians, and finally gave it to Romans.
God gave one last chance for Judah(Jews) to accept His Son, Jesus Christ while under the occupation of Roman Empire, but they failed to live up to the "Time Prophecy" in Daniel 9:24-27 rejected their Messiah and killed Him.
Since then Judah(Jews) were dispersed from their land in 70 ad by the Romans and God gave the land to Israel's twin brother Esau(Ottoman Empire) as promised in Gen 27:40 from 1517 to 1917 a.d. and ended their occupation in 1917 a.d. by Joseph(British Empire) and allowed Judah(Jews) to return to their land in 1948 in anticipation of their Messiah's second coming but not to rule the land and Jerusalem but to live under the rule of British Mandate(Joseph) who have the Birthright.
Judah(Jews) were supposed to have lived under the rule of Joseph also called Israel since then with Arabs(Palestinians), the occupiers at that time side by side under the full security agreement of Joseph(British Empire and later under American Empire).
But Judah(Jews) ended Joseph's occupation in 1948 AD and took control of the whole land which is meant for all 12 tribes of Israel in the future under Messiah, the eternal Son of God and also to allow the occupiers Arabs to live on their own separate from them until Messiah comes and solve the issue of God's promise land once and for all.
The problem in the Middle East is due to both Judah and Joseph not adhering to God's promises under 1 Chronicles 5:1-2.
God as of today has cursed His city of Jerusalem as an eternal justice to shed blood of His son Jesus Christ by both Jews and Gentiles.
