Wow, this is a gem. Preliminary fish room, compared to the awesomely upgraded and filled-in room that you have now. Just saw Mr. Steenfott's tour and your room has come a long way. Very inspiring!
You have some pretty tall trees around there. All that wind makes for a scary situation. But the fish room looks great! You have quite a bit of space in the other side. Anyways the fry look great, i was happy to see them swimming around finally out of the net. But yeah happy thanksgiving and as always take care.
hey corey, gotta say i Love these videos. being new to the hobby and wanting to build a fishroom for myself. Do you have any tanks inside your house or are they all in your fishroom? I actually have a question. the filtration on your indoor koi pond, is it a DIY canister system? if so can you make a video of how to make those? or have a RealFishTalk video about DIY filtration vs store bought filtration. Thanks! all the way from Ontario, Canada
+Curtis Rodrigue Hi Curtis, thanks for watching. Good Idea about making a video on how to diy the filtration I use on the koi ponds. I'll definitely shoot a video on that. Probably won't be for a while as I need to setup more ponds, but people will probably find it interesting.
+Seb Smith I'll see what I can do. Not that many fish in it yet. But eventually the channel will be filled with the fish in my room . Each of these episodes that comes out should reveal a little more of the fish as I stock it more.
+1deaver 6.8-7.0 pH depending on time of year. Alkalinity 0 to 25ppm and hardness 0-50 depending on time of year. This is why I use crushed coral in every aquarium I own whether it's a soft water fish or hardwater fish. Water parameters swing wildly without it. Discus breed in my tapwater. The TDS is less than 25 out of the tap.
+Aquarium Co-Op mibe is similar but my tap pH is 6.3. how often do u change the crush coral? do u keep it in ur filters? how much coral do u use per size of tank? in my swordtail i use crush coral as substrate, same with my frontosa 135ga but i also have araganite in that one.
Well if I know I'm doing hard water fish I use all crushed coral substrate. If I'm doing general hardness fish. I do 1 pound per 10 gallons of water spread through the gravel.
+Aquarium Co-Op what are your thoughts on the expiration of effectiveness on crushed coral. Ive read on many forums that over time it loses its buffering capacity.
Well there is a limit to what it can do. That being said I think most people experience it when they are trying to keep 8+ pH for africans etc. So far. I've yet to ever see it stop working. Oldest tanks running with crushed coral are about 8 yrs old. I'm sure at some point it'll lose effectiveness and I"ll supplement it with some more.
damn that pretty cold at night,,,,im just droopping into the freezing temps up here in nyc...o man i know what the freezeing weather can bring...i busted alottt of tank bottoms out like this
+daniel Payseno Lol, it's one of the features we loved when we bought the house. It's a fire hydrant shell that is plumbed with a spigot for a garden hose. So it's just novelty.

+Aquarium Co-Op that would be fantastic. i look forward to it. i was curious because i wouldnt mind putting a DIY canister on my 120gallon!
Hey can you do a tour of all your fish in your awesome fish room?

+Aquarium Co-Op ok thanks for replying. :)
what are your water perameters straight from the tap. i know u said you have soft water, do u miss with your water to keep livebearers?
