The best review and walkthrough of any of the scores of game reviews I've watched. The style of directing the camera closely at what the player is looking at is fabulous. Thanks Rahdo! Can't wait for your next one.
My wife and I use little snack containers for storage in nearly all of our games!! They make game setup and tear-down so much faster. Plus it makes the table more organized. Couldn't see going back to plastic bags anymore!!
This video basically cost me £37. I had to buy a copy after seeing your enthusiasm and enjoyment for the game, I just hope I have nearly as much as fun with it. :)
The START is only for the short game, not the full version. There is a thread on boardgamegeek about this and this is also how it is on Le Havre iOS version.
The backs of the buildings indicate which are in play for each number of players and long/short game. The back of the Marketplace says START in the 2p box.
Love it, although I wish it played as well solitaire as it does with more people. Also, the last print run ran out months ago... who knows when it'll be available at decent prices again.
Great video! Quick question; if the discs that show which goods each spot loads up don't ever change during a game; then how do certain resources get produced? In your example game, cattle wasn't on any of them, so does that mean cattle will never be available in the offering spaces the whole game?
Love your reviews! I've only heard about this game from watching this video. At 12:50, you take 3 wood instead of 4 francs, could you not use 3 of those francs for 3 woods and then have an extra franc?
Do you find that the way the loan system works, with its one franc of interest no matter how many loans you take is broken? What do you think of house-ruling it that EACH loan pays 1 franc of interest at the end of the year?
i wouldn't call it broken so much as "unfortunately pushes players into one ideal victory path" since it's just the smartest thing to do to build up a ton of loans to pay for your food, carry almost no interest, put all your cash into building towards coke&steele, and then easily pay off those loans at the end. which of course completely nerfs leather since generating food is a waste of time. i've only ever played le havre 2p, so i have no idea how things are at higher player counts, but actually for the longest time, we played the game "wrong", that you had to pay interest on each loan as you suggest, and thought the game was FANTASTIC. when i discovered we'd been playing wrong and started doing it correctly, i ultimately traded it away. again, all of this is 2p only experience... maybe at higher player count having proper load interest wouldn't work for some reason?
to be honest, it's been so many years since i've played, i don't really remember. but if you ask here you'll get a quick answer: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/35677/le-havre/forums/0
What did Jen gain by buying that first building for 4 gold? She spent 4 points to gain 4 points and didn't have any advantage whatsoever. The other players still get to use the building and she gains nothing out of having it. Was it just to show us that you can buy a building as a free action (even though it makes no sense)?
getting rid of cash on hand allows you to take loans, which are hugely powerful. plus buildings have icons on them that you can set collect to unlock bigger moves later
still own it, though i play it more on my iphone, since i've got so many new games to cover these days, it's hard to get back to ones i've had for awhile!
Nice introduction to this game! BTW, can you really use fish as food directly? I thought you had to use smoked fish as food. (Similarly to how you have to convert cattle to beef, and grain to bread.)
Great vid mate. Just one thing: try to control the many "uuuuhn"s a wee bit. That gets in the way often-times. Otherwise, it was marvellously delivered (and kudos for not criticising the game theme or the front picture).
You're wrong, Rahdo is right. Money can be used as food. Food cannot be used as money. You can feed your workers with money (thematically you are using money to buy food), but you cannot use food to buy stuff. Id you do not believe me, try playing the game on an iPad and see for yourself :)
i was trying to show stuff off yes, plus in this game, load payments are so insanely cheap it's pretty regular for all players to take a bunch of loans earn in the game

That's still true 8 years later! :) Will play tomorrow for the first time, and this is the best explanation. Thanks a lot!

Thank you Rahdo, This is the best introductory walk though I've found. Very helpful!
I think you got Carcossne jokes mixed with Catan jokes.

Dr. Ian Malcolm Teaching Le Havre!
Great job answering my question as I asked, "What are those cups?"
EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you, Rahdo!
you are right. I play this game on iPad and it lets me pay my food requirements with money but not the other way around.
Nice video once more rahdo !!!
FYI: In the 2p game, the Marketplace starts built by the town.

Can you do a Walkthrough of Arigcola Please? I love watching your videos and how you explain how to play the game. And i like the new format

nope, catle was on the 6th disc, so everything does show up at least once every go 'round :)

isnt the market a start building in 2 players game?which means it cant be built? is my understanding right?based on a Chinese version

Excellent playthroughs, dude! You are starting to make things expensive for me, as I have to buy all the games you try out.... :-)
why would you use an action te stand on the building to build a building if you can also just build a building as a free action? i didn't get that

Thanks for this great review! I have a question: can I enter more than one building during the same main action?
nope, 1 worker, 1 building entered :)
thanks for the video ! really helped me and make it easier to understand :)
EPIC thum up ! ! ! !
Really nice tutorial :), this vid helped me a lot.
Seems to me that the game would be interesting if those circular tiles were shuffled then replaced after each round.
Are you still playing this game ? Looks interesting and the price is less then caverna
still own it, though i play it more on my iphone, since i've got so many new games to cover these days, it's hard to get back to ones i've had for awhile!

any token with the food pot icon on it can be eaten (plus francs, of course) :)
i cant find it online :( you know a link to this game?
+Santi T try www.boardgameprices.com ?

40 ans que le havre perd des habitants chaque année !

Benjamin di Vianna yeah, i know, i used to be really bad about that (that's a very old vid).

You sound delightful.
Wow. Learn something new...
great vid
Why did Jen have to take the loan haha is it just to show the concept. It doesnt make sense otherwise as it costed her the loan
i was trying to show stuff off yes, plus in this game, load payments are so insanely cheap it's pretty regular for all players to take a bunch of loans earn in the game
Second the Agricola request
The Marketplace does not start built by the town
echoooooo
