Hello, the process of capturing the darkness first with black, finding the skin tone, and completing the painting is wonderful. Thank you for explaining how to brighten the colors without adding white or too much white. I have studied Persian painting, which is a classic style of painting, but I can't help but notice that not many artists explain this in their tutorials.

Yea! I don't think the technique itself is forgotten, but the term. I paint like this too, I just didn't realize they were called vignettes. I'm more used to that term in photography. Now you can tell people "it's not unfinished, it's a vignette" lol Happy painting!
I´ve just started to dive into oil painting, coming from digital painting. I was impressed seeing you paint in a sketchbook (moleskin?) with oils! Could you please elaborate on that? What is that prep stage of the paper and how do you keep them from smearing when you are done? Thank you a lot I´m really looking forward to your answer.
He uses an acrylic primer, GAC - 100 from Golden, it creates a barrier between the paper and the oil paints, otherwise the paper would absorb the oils and rot eventually. You could also use acrylic gesso for priming instead.

I always thought i was lazy for painting vignettes, until i tried neatly taping off the edges. It just doesn't look as dynamic! Your painting turned out beautiful, I love the colours
My dream is to be a great artist just like you , everything u do is a masterpiece 🥺✨ Or if I couldn’t i should at least buy one of ur pieces I really can’t describe the beauty and the pleasure that touches me everytime i see ur videos 💕

You’re so incredible! Such a simple effect that makes a huge difference in how we perceive the finished piece. I’m a huge fan of the 60’s magazine illustrations, which did this a lot. Beautiful painting! Btw what medium did you use in your sketchbook before you started painting?
Perhaps I could help. :) I like to prime my pages with GAC 100 from Golden and a few layers of Michael Harding non absorbent acrylic primer. This will keep any oil from soaking through. :)
