I am 60 years old and I have never worn foundation or concealr, because of how bad they are for the complexion. However, I still always wore eye makeup and lipstick. Recently I stopped wearing those things as well, mainly because I want to increase my confidence level and self esteem by getting myself used to being seen without it. It's been a test for me and I find that I am passing this test with flying colors! It's nice to be able to talk face to face with others and have them fully see my naked face. I still feel just as pretty, if not more so, because if I receive any compliments about my looks, at least I know that it is because of the "real me" and not the masked, enhanced, version, that I used to prop myself up with.
Great video. I've never thought about makeup from the point of view of the industry wants us to be and how it treats our value. I stopped wearing makeup about 20 years ago, but sometimes feel pressure from the society. Your words are great support for me. Thank you for sharing!
I've stopped wearing makeup, too. I only put on just a tiny bit of concealer on my dark circles (caused also by anemia). Hopefully one day I won't care about that anymore. Lovely video.
thank you for sharing! stopping wearing make-up is something all women can do as an act of resistance! and i also am a strong believer that 'practice makes perfect', kinda thing. You can't get comfortable with not wearing makeup unless you actually start doing it!!
Thanks for the comment and I totally agree. I read somewhere (don't have a source) that the average American woman spends $2k a year on cosmetics. Imagine the economic impact of even a few women deciding to give it up? It adds up quick. By the way I love your channel and thanks for doing the live stream the other day and providing a place for women to connect. I think it's so absolutely crucial to do so right now. You always generate great conversations, I admire your gift of gab! x
@@LisaMichele Ah you are BEYOND kind. Thank you so much for that, wow! You're right about the economic impact. Women make less money as is, and women spend more money on crap. Make-up, shoes for every occasion, purses, lingerie, multiple typesof facial creams (moisturizer, eye cream, etc), soap for the body versus soap for the face, etc forever. Exhausting!
The other day I was watching Democracy Now and had a realization that it was still startling to see not only an older woman being a news anchor but also she wasn’t made up. It was so refreshing and something that is totally mainstream were it a man. We’re so used to this that showing up to some jobs without makeup gets lots of people asking if you’re tired or wondering what’s wrong.. something no man has to deal with
Wow thank you so much for making this video. I am new to feminism (rf) and have been wanting to break away from old programming. I've stopped wearing make up daily, but still feel like I need it to be taken seriously. I have experienced many times being treated differently when I don't wear it. It's funny because the reason I clicked on this video is because something was "off" with your thumbnail. When I saw you were barefaced my first thought was "why would she do that?" when I caught myself thinking that, I had to watch and I'm so glad I did. I actually had a similar reaction to this fiber artist i love named Tinna Thorudottir. She doesn't talk about it at all, and there are videos of her 'done up', but usually she is barefaced and her happy face and laughter just....its amazing. Oh and I meant to say that while yes, your lack of make up was instantly noticeable, after watching the video for a few minutes, i stopped noticing. This is really encouraging to me because maybe it will be that way for me too when I'm brave enough to forego makeup completely.
I love this comment so much! Seriously, it's comments like this that make youtube worth it for me so I appreciate it. Welcome to radical feminism! It's a challenging journey but it's one of self-confidence and true liberation. It *is* hard to deprogram after a lifetime of the same defeating messages drilled into us over and over. I understand that so much and it's something I still wrestle with continuously, although I'll tell you that it does get easier and I do feel freer over time. It's honestly nice to just be yourself, say what you have to say, accept yourself and your face for what it is and feel like "I'm... good enough". And feeling like your opinion of yourself is really all that matters, because it is. That's what it's about. I'm glad you feel encouraged. Good luck on your journey!
Merry Christmas! I love the natural look. I find a woman much more attractive when she wears little makeup or no makeup at all. If people are eating right, and drinking enough water their skin tends to look better without it anyway. The trend for fake eye lashes, and too much make up is an unnecessary social construct. Love the more cinematic shots at the end too. Wishing you nothing but peace, love, respect, joy and happiness for the new year!
I’m so thankful I was a “Tom boy” and never wore make up. It didn’t interest me at all. I’m 24 now and since I’m so used to seeing my bare face, seeing myself with makeup (I let my friends practice on me) looks so odd and off-putting to me. I can’t imagine having to spend an extra 15-45 minutes to get ready in the morning. I prefer my wash and go routine. Plus it’s so sad when I go to the beach with my friends and none of them want to go swimming because they’ll ruin their makeup. Or when I call them up for a random outting and they refuse to leave the house without makeup. It’s so sad so many women have been essentially indoctrinated to believe makeup is the norm, it’s “required” to look put together and professional looking. There’s nothing inherently wrong with wearing makeup. The issue arises when you see your bare face as ugly and you rely on makeup to feel good about yourself.
Hi Lisa Michelle. Hope you're well thankyou so much for the videos. I had my ultrasound scan today and they didn't find anything "abnormal" but yet I still have sicca dry mouth symptoms. I also have to have a 24hr heart monitor on as am now on 2 beta blockers which must have slowed down my heart rate still acting strange. I am left wondering what all my symptoms add up to. What symptoms do you have with Hasshimotos.
Well it's always a good thing when they don't find anything although I understand it can be frustrating when you want answers. My main symptom with Hashimoto's is fatigue. But my thyroid levels are usually normal, I think they've only tested out of range twice. I get a blood test about once a year. I don't take any meds for it. They can test specifically for Hashimoto's, there's an antibody, you either have it or you don't. So it's an easy one to diagnose.
❤❤❤ a woman's real face should be normalized in North America, it is everywhere else in the world🎉. If you are perimenopausal or menopausal wearing foundations and makeup is very difficult with hot flashes and the sweats.
I actually like makeup, but you are just as attractive without it. However, I think it can enhance a woman's looks, as some men have evolved over a long period of time to find them more attractive and they sometimes take a sharp intake of breath when they see a woman who is stunningly beautiful and made up. However, I have seen women who need nothing to enhance their beauty who are stunning, I am also sure you have met several natural males who you consider equally attractive.
Thanks for your perspective and the compliment! My point is that a woman shouldn't be valued for her looks though, makeup or no. The idea behind women's liberation/equality is for women to experience the world on a level playing field. While men are also somewhat judged for their looks, being ugly rarely holds a man back. Just some thoughts!

@@RadicalRamblings all those expectations for women are an extra layer of economic oppression that keeps them enslaved basically
