I’ve started a month ago using Duolingo and I’ll start my lessons in September and I’m really looking forward to it.

"Confidence is more important than correctness when you start learning a language". Tha mi ag aontachadh riut 100%! I've known too many Gaelic-learners who stutter and giggle and hesitate and never actually say anything for fear of getting it wrong, but never actually saying anything means they never learn anything, and they don't get the chance to find out what they *do* know because they're so nervous about what they *don't* know. A Gaelic-speaker can understand Gaelic that has all the ideas but dodgy grammar, or all the words but a funny accent... but they can't understand what you mean when you're not saying anything at all. Just talk, you'll get used to using mutations and yes/no and thu/sibh and genders and all the other stuff as you go along.
An ceart ar fad agat! If you don't have perfect grammar or a perfect accent, that's not a problem! (who does, anyway?) If you're missing the odd word and have to say it in English instead, that's fine too. We'll all understand anyway (and those who pretend they don't should seriously sort out their priorities). What I find is such a pity with Irish Gaelic, but I'm sure it happens in all other Celtic languages too, is the mentality of "ah sure, I can't speak Gaelic to save me life, let's just speak English". At least try! That's the only way to get through life in general anyway.

You've got yourself another subscriber, I was born into an English speaking community in the south Wales valleys in the 1970s. Really wanna sit the person down who lectured me for 10 minutes about how dreadful it was that I said 'nac ydw' instead of 'naddo' and force him to watch this. But seriously, there is such a nice and uplifting message in this video :)
Thank you. I used to love the Urdd Eisteddfods when I was a child. I used to recite poems. I was genuinely rubbish but that was never a barrier to my enthusiasm. Happy memories and apologies ....

I've just started my journey with Welsh for no other reason than I want to learn it. I've had a hack at German and French, dabbled in Italian and Spanish so why not Cymraeg? This video is fabulous. Love the bit about Dickheads: So so true. Wherever I've been tripping over French, German, Spanish, Italian even bits of Finnish the vast majority of people have been more than happy to help because I've had a go with their lingo. I promise not to resort to shouting loudly in English :-)

Love the comments about diceds. Met a few years ago while dented my confidence when I was much younger, and did stop me learning. Twenty years on, being older and not caring about what others thing now, I’ve thrown myself into learning the language again. And loving it.

I'm part Welsh and live in New Zealand, not sure if my family in Wales are Cymraeg speakers ( haven't seen them in decades) but I'm learning the language anyway to better connect with my culture - and because it's beautiful. Surprised that Welsh are so brown compared to other western Eroupeans, they look more southern Eroupen.
Depends on the person really. Some Welshmen are tan, some are pale.

I tend to use a 'hack and slay' method for languages, which gets up the nose of the 'experts' in the languages I speak well (French, Spanish) while re my second tier (Portuguese, Catalan) I'm more humble because I will make mistakes. But tbh yes, nobody cares if you get the verb form wrong. Not knowing the actual word for something might be more of an issue. Welsh feels like a long and hard road and I still don't understand very much but I am getting there and your tips are good and well-received.

My great great father was Welshman that happened to show himself as Englishman in order to participate in California's industrialisation in mid XIX century. I always have hated English language and would like to learn Welsh, instead. His native town was Swansea, by the way...

Where can I learn the Welsh pronunciation for the mountains of Snowdonia?
I have been searching the internet for someone saying the names of the following mountains, but I can't find it! I don't want just a text description of how to say it (eg, Garnedd = GAR -neth). I want to hear how they are supposed to be said. I can't find anything on TH-cam.

It is great and I love welsh and have even time to learn it as I have spent time there and have friends but.....the EU gave you a lot of money to promote your language as a minority EU language yet you voted out. Now you will have to rely on Westminster. Good luck with the English.
I don’t agree with brexit but the Welsh Language Act predates our membership of the EU by a decade. In any case, by now, the language is a devolved issue for the Senedd in Cardiff, not Westminster.

Mutations are not grammar. Nonetheless, I agree with a lot of what you say. The subject of correctness comes up time and time again. It shouldn't. There shouldn't be an issue with it, period. It doesn't occur with other languages and the fact that it is so long standing is the fault of the Welsh learning providers (if their pathetic level of provision can actually be called that). If they even marginally competent then there would be no need for this video.
How on earth do you expect anyone, except perhaps a machine, to follow your "speed-talk?"

No! Speaking Welsh incorrectly is not better than not speaking Welsh at all! What use is learning a language if you don't learn it properly!?
The fact is, even the Welsh in Wales don't speak Welsh. Why!? Because Welsh is a minority language, English is easier to learn.
