- ‘Go on, give me a little cheeky Welsh swear word…’
Local lingo, language mix-ups and being constantly asked to 'say something in Welsh’.
Welsh speakers chat about some of the unique aspects of Cymraeg.
Diolch Steffan Alun Siôn Owens, Beth Williams-Jones and Dafydd Francis.

Only one thing to say: lower the volume of the music so we can actually hear what they're saying!
Yeah, why do so may YTers do that!!!!?!?
You can adjust the sound settings to enhance voices over music.
Cymraeg is one of the most interesting languages ever made. Sexy, musically inclined, bizarre, and such. Wish I went to a school in Caerdydd or Powys to pick up the lingo, boyo!
I don't know why it took me so long (I learned German at night school and taught myself Welsh) but CROESO is surely the same as south German GRÜSSE probably absorbed into Cymraeg from ancient Saxon and one of those words 'truer' to its origins when mutated - CROESO-> GROESO, GWYNT -> WYNT. I suspect D^WR comes from WA>TER< and TWP from S>TUP
Interesting
Dŵr comes from Middle Welsh dwfyr, from Proto-Brythonic *duβr, from Proto-Celtic *dubros, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰubʰrós (“deep”). Croeso's origin is unknown but it's actually suspected to be related to 'croes' (cross).
Twp comes from dialectal English 'tup' (fool), origin also unknown.
At the end of the day all European languages bar Basque are interrelated.
My favourite thing is that I live in MCR and when I’m ready to go I slap my knees and say ‘barod!’ and English people look at me …. are you alright?
To be honest, it would still be a bit weird, if you slapped your knees and said, "Ready!"
That being said, I like that. Barod is a pretty _neis_ Welsh word.
Only 1 person from North Wales??

im from north Wales aswell, just outside pwllheli
@@aaron_PJ oh from Caernarfon here

Living in England; I am asked "Tell me a Welsh Swear Word". And I surprise them. There AREN'T any. You can translate Swearing INTO Welsh. But we don't actually have Swear Words.
boi bach yma’n malu cachu’n ddiawledig.
@@megan89 My Welsh is extremely rusty from living here. Can you kindly translate that please.
@@nevermindmyname9153 i swore in welsh to prove a point cariad x
@@megan89 A swear word that is Welsh that isn't translated from another Language?
@@megan89 o ddifri ‘di poeri mas tê odd yn fy ngheg i o werthyn! Ymdrech ardderchog 👏
Now that I think about it. The welsh language is like the celtic equivalent of Mexican spanish. Very singsong like
as someone from south wales, i have NEVER heard the word dangerus
Defnyddiodd fy nhad y gair yn aml. Oedd e'n dod o'r De Cymru.
@Alana Worsfolddw'i yn siarad yr heniaith...ond mae rhaid ddweud dw'i ddim wedi byw yng Nghymru erioed ac achos hynny ...a ddim gyfle i siarad e bob dydd...rhydlyd yw'r gair cywir.
Diolch am cymryd diddordeb
@Cymro 65 ie, roedd fy nhad yn dod o yr ardal honno
Trio'n galed...ond mae'n pwysig cadw ein hiaith
@Cymro 65 cytuno'n llwyr
The most funniest 2 made up Welsh words are probably popti ping (microwave) and pysgod wibbly wobbly (jelly fish)
Neither of those are actually right. Microwave is "meicrodon" and jellyfish is "sglefren fôr". Common misconception though.
I'm learning Welsh. And I can pronounce that long name fluenly. A chance for showing-off😂
I can say some words in Welsh.
These words are Y Gododdin.
I'm Russian myself. God bless Cymru!
*MAE’N GAS DA FI LLAETH*
I might have spelled that one, but I didn’t use a translator
I hate milk*
Gwlad heb iaith yw gwlad heb enaid
Rhew a rhyw 🤣🤣🤣
I don't use dangerus!
Perygyl !
The gogs do have different words for things.
So do my Welsh speaking friends down west...
Or me and I’m SW
I’m welsh 😃
My mum probably knows all these people 😌
Pwy yn y byd sy'n defnyddio dangerus?
Dangerous is an English word and Periculous is actually just an Italian word lol
Peryglus - Roman
nope, actually both came from latin, welsh got it from the romans who were here before the english came
@@megan89 yeah we knowwww lol
What is this gogledd C Word ??!!
:D we mallus are better with our 9 dielects in 14 districts :D
I dislike this video because of the background noise . You can’t hear what they say as a result which renders the whole thing useless.
