    Vietnam has marked 70 years since the end of a military campaign that led to the end of French colonial rule in Indochina. The battle in the country's northwestern hills lasted more than eight weeks starting March 13, 1954. Soldiers loyal to Vietnam's communist leader Ho Chi Minh targeted the largest French defence stronghold in Indochina, Dien Bien Phu, launching an anti-aircraft campaign that brought down 62 French warplanes. The 56-day campaign ended on May 7, a date many historians view as the start of the demise of European colonial power in Asia.

    Think about this: when the whole world was done with a major war in 1945, the Vietnamese kept on fighting for another 30 years with the French, the U.S. and the Chinese. Some may expect to find a nation soaked in bitter memory when they visit there. Wrong. I saw the the most beautiful smiles there.

I thought they learned their lesson that being a subject of other nation is depressing.
    After all of those hardships they endured, Vietnam deserved its peace, prosperity, and happiness.

      China was never defeated. Mao Zedong withdrew his troops after seeing how easy it was to invade Vietnam. The invasion of Vietnam wasn’t to provoke or threaten the sovereignty of Vietnam but it was primarily a show of force on display for Vietnam to know chinas support for the Khmer Rouge. Mao wanted to put pressure on the Vietnamese to let them know to fall back on the engagement with the Khmer Rouge. Neither Vietnam or China had actual beef but more like a big brother offering his constructive role.

      @@josephwu3136it's safe to say China was defeated. For these reasons :
      1. China said it could occupy Hanoi in a week, but has never been able to make it.
      2. China wanted Vietnam to withdraw from Cambodia, but Vietnam hadn't until 1989.
      3. China wanted Vietnam to know who was the real communist leader, but Vietnam was still pro-Soviet Union until its collapse. Even now, Vietnamese history textbook still praise Soviet a lot.
      4. Vietnamese history textbook teach about the 1979 war, but China has no line for it, because Chinese know they were defeated.
      So none of China's aims were realized, so we can easily tell who was the loser now. I don't think Vietnam won, given that Vietnam got nothing from the war, but clearly China lost.

      De Castries ordered his man to not surrender but let the Viet Minh capture them. In practice, this is no difference from a surrender. A defeated army can still retreat, but not in DBP, where the whole army was captured, even De Castries and his staff were captured.

    Northern Belonging Period.That is, the period when Vietnam was part of China, beginning with the Qin general Zhao Tuo's pacification of the Baiyue and establishment of the state of Nan Yue in present-day Panyu, Guangdong Province, in 204 B.C., and ending with the establishment of the independent Wu Dynasty in 938 A.D., when Vietnamese Ngo Quang defeated the forces of the Southern Han Dynasty during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms.

      Period of independent statehood.From 938 until the full French colonization of Vietnam in 1884, Vietnam was essentially an independent state and remained a vassal state of successive Chinese dynasties, with a 20-year period during which the Ming Dynasty placed Vietnam under direct centralized rule.

    • @nezhanaohai
      @nezhanaohai 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Throughout the entire period of the Northern Belongings and Independent States, which lasted for more than 2,000 years.Vietnam has been under the direct or indirect influence of Chinese culture, constantly learning and following it.Chinese clothes were worn, Chinese characters were written, Confucian texts were read, and examinations were taken.It can be said that Chinese culture has built most of Vietnam's history.

    • @nezhanaohai
      @nezhanaohai 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The de-Chinaization of Vietnam is all-encompassing and touches every aspect of life.And the two most central ones are.The first is the erasure of all traces of Chinese characters, ensuring that Vietnam is in reality far removed from China; the second is the reinterpretation of history, severing the historical cultural ties with China.

    • @nezhanaohai
      @nezhanaohai 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In the eyes of the Chinese, during the period of North-South Vietnam, China brought to the region advanced agricultural production techniques, a whole system of state building, social norms centered on Confucianism, and created a splendid history.In the narrative of the National Museum of History, this is not considered worth mentioning, and what needs to be mentioned is a chart of "Resistance to Invaders".Resistance to the Eastern Han, resistance to the two Jin dynasties, resistance to the Southern Dynasties, resistance to the Tang army, and so on.These historical events, which in Chinese historical records are defined as "local civil commotion" or "rebellion", are all regarded here as acts of "resistance to foreign invaders".

    • @nezhanaohai
      @nezhanaohai 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This strong anti-North sentiment is full of contradictions.In fact, during the time when the Mongol Yuan and Manchu Qing Dynasty dominated the Central Plains, the documents of the Vietnamese Dynasty used to refer to the rulers of the North as "Mongol Tartars" and "Qing barbarians", while claiming to be the "Chinese Orthodoxy".It was not outside the Chinese cultural circle.
