In my opinion Islam has the most beautiful and diverse takedowns in the entire history of mma. No one has his diverse skillset and multiple different takedowns. His judo is simply beautiful to watch. If you haven't seen his takedowns compilation, if you love Judo you will enjoy it for sure

I agree there is a big focus on standup in judo , but to say there isn’t also a comprehensive ground aspect of it is insane. Just yesterday at my judo place we were literally practicing ground fighting.
Khabib was on a nother Level tho, no one came close to his mindset inside the Octagon not even Islam. When Khabib was in the cage I always felt like watching an Older Brother beat a younger one but with Islam its a bit more even and more risky

His situational awareness inside the cage was such that it felt like he always knew what the next move of his opponent would be and thus sort of played with him as an Older brother. I agree with you that Khabib brought some supreme level of confidence inside the cage but with Islam, I don't feel that safe yet. There's always a risk that Islam can get caught with a nasty shot that gave him that one loss early in his career. Islam still needs to grow in his confidence, anticipate his opponent's moves much better, improve his grappling a little more, and increase his already high Fight IQ a little more. There's still room for improvement as we saw in the first Volkanovsky fight. Having said that, I don't see anyone beating Makhachev in the Lightweight division at the moment. He is the best in the world right now despite his few weaknesses.

Great video! This is the kind of content the IJF needs to be getting out there. Lots of MMA fighters internationally speaking that have a judo background and who use it in MMA. It’s not just wrestling & BJJ.
A Great Champion. humble guy. If he lost a fight...its Not a Bad thing. He Lost with Respect. No bullshit no trashtalk. No insulting on personal matters. Bcoz of his Humble and truthful...he never afraid to fight bcoz he knows Hes doing the right thing , compete with skills and respect. Thats why he always win. If he lost , its part of Game. Normal thing....bcoz theres always new fighters come with new way of skills .
This is why i believe Islam is an all time great. Yeah fighters today are good at every skill but Islam has MASTERED every skill. Its good to see someone in the modern era use a traditional art like Judo to run through a tough division in the ufc like this.
I think the best way to increase judo’s popularity is to do what Netflix has done with F1 and tennis make a docuseries following various competitors on the IJF circuit, so many have amazing stories about there past and the sacrifices they have made
The Judo (or Sambo, which borrowed heavily from Judo) aspect is what make Islam and Khabib so much more fearsome and effective compared to the rest of MMA grapplers. Countless trips and hip throws in their arsenal from the clinch, not just the predictable single/double leg shots from wrestling
I think with a good training camp he could win a grand slam or grand prix, he has been doing judo and sambo since he was with abdulmanap so i think with time he could win a grand slam or grand prix.

Fun fact....the late Abdulmanap mentioned that Khabib lost everyone of his Judo competition when he was young.....and Khabib was a hot head because even his Mother and sister was a judoka and competed for a spot in the Olympics for the Russian NT. So to keep him off the street...his father introduced him to his uncle who ran a MMA academy....and the rest is history. And Abdulmanap did say Islam will be an even better fighter than Khabib.....😂😂😂 Anyone saw the AoF video of Khabib and Henry arguing about Judo vs Wrestling...and Khabib was saying Judo is harder.....yup that is why....Khabib can easily win in wrestling and grappling....but him putting Judo above all..was because he did not do well in Judo as a kid😂😂😂

Islam currently is the only elite MMA fighter with judo in his arsenal.
We can say it for Merab too but he doesnt use it that much as Islam
merab def has some judo stuff in his arsenal. He hit a funny sumi gaeshi on petr yan.
There are a few more, but they aren't on Islam's level. Few can actually be champ though, so there's that.
Merab was an actual Judoka, his first martial art, he used it against Cejudo effectively.
