The world will never see such an epic commentator like Bill Lawry. He was truly out of this world. Today's Cricket aura is empty without him.

Still magical each time, just the entirity of the final 4 overs - the commentary, the players, the dropped catch from Aus, Boucher struggling, McGrath striking, Klusener hitting those last 2 4s and of course the legacy of that match for both Aus (the beginning of their dominance) and SA (the choker tag). Australians are so mentally strong despite 2 back to back boundaries they didn't give up and fought till the end that's what makes them a true champion of the game.
Nothing can beat this match
At 5:08 - in cricket, when the ball is hit down the ground, always trust the batsman playing the ball (i.e., striker's end). Klusener knew he timed the ball poorly (which was actually perfect enough to steal the one run) and Allan Donald should have trusted Klusener and just run but he turned his back for some reason.
What's even more amazing is that on the immediate previous ball you saw Klusener hitting but not even going for it, and Allan immediately turning back. So he did trust the batter. But then with the hitter going for the winning single, Allan made safe ground and waited to see if there was a misfield. He pretty much never saw (nor cared about) Klusener coming towards his end. He assumed he'd stop running and play it safe just like he did, after the runout scare from the previous ball. The sudden fear of losing cost them the game.

The previous delivery near miss runout must have been playing on Donald's mind. A fact often overlooked is SAs middle and lower order relied heavily on Klusener during the entire tournament. So blaming Klusener or Donald is unfair.
Had Mark Waugh hit direct Klusener was a goner. Never a run in there.
As a 90s kid I watched this match live in black and white BPL tv at night with my brother and mother it's Donald s fault to complete the run with klusner when ever I see the number 213 it's remembers this match next day at school we spoke about this match for the entire day ❤❤❤ sema memories❤❤❤❤
Used to think Donald not running made SA loose..But It's Mark Boucher who made a mess out of chase..around 10 dots..
Also tactically, he should have looking to somehow bunt the ball and steal a single and leave the striking to klusener.
SA and NZL are two most deserving teams for a cwc now.

Here's what happened in the final ball:
Klusener hit the ball, Donald looked at the ball, which means he could not look at Klusener, so he assumed that Klusener would not run since the ball was not that far from the wicket. He immediately backed up onto his crease, not realizing that Klusener was running towards him, but when he does realize, it is too late. He runs to the other side, but was runout.

In reality, It was Harchel Gibbs who dropped Steve Waugh's catch in super six match which caused them. Otherwise, they would face Zimbabwe in Semis, instead of Australia.
Someone HAS to do a deep dive documentary on this game. I want interviews with EVERYONE involved with Kluesner the final word. I want him to admit he is responsible NOT Alan Donald.

I have started watching cricket since 2001. Maybe watched a few heres and theres in 1990s but literally don't know as I was too small to remember or understand it, I was born in 1991, so mostly remember most life events since 1997-98 or so. Anyway.
As far as I've seen in highlights, I clearly feel tha ALLAN DONALD was definitely involved in fixing of 1999SEMIS, because the way he lately starts to run after the ball reaches fielder's hands, it was certain that he'll be runout. So, I think DONALD is 200% culprit there, it cannot be unintentional.

Live-watching this back in 99. When Australia finally won, everyone at home burst in celebration 🎊. Why? Because Pakistan has beaten Australia once in the league matches, but lost to SA both times. We were so foolish at that time we believed that our dangerous Pakistani team can beat Australia easily in the final because we had a win's advantage against them. Little did we know that the final on which we have pinned our hopes will forever shatter our self-made image of Pakistani team, and for the first time in my life, I got acquainted with what is match-fixing and what is the real faces of our legends like Wasim, Waqar, Inzi, Ijaz, Moin, and many others 😢

Because Australia beat South Africa in super six game a week before this match. That match was also in South Africa’s hand when herchelle gibbs dropped Steve Waugh who hit 120* and famously said to Gibbs, you dropped the cup mate.
Cause, Australia have better net run rate and a super six win Vs same South Africa.

that's one way to look at it, but the single run was on. Donald should have trusted the striker's end (i.e., Klusener). When the ball is hit down the ground, it's always the striker's call. And Klusener timed the ball poorly (which was actually perfect to steal the one run) but alas@@premjith9605
