This is SO AWESOME! pronunciation question. I know some basic Norwegian and I know there are pronunciation differences, but I have never heard sj- pronounced as h-. in the lyrics below, I hear "hung-gar" for sjunger and "hut-ton" for sjutton. Is this possibly a dialect pronunciation?
Which version they made first? Swedish or English? Both are nice to hear but English version more deeply penetrate our hearts since we understand the lyrics.
Sorry, but the Musical Mamma Mia used original ABBA songs, and all in English. However, all songs in this musical were sung by singers of this musical, and not by ABBA singers. And of course you are right, the Musical Mamma Mia is also available as a movie.
English is a beautiful language, but so is Swedish. I hate how many non-native English singers/bands prefer to sing in the mainstream English language over their native languages.
Do you think they would've been so famous around the globe if they only sing in their native language? English is spoken around the globe for circa 40 countries and around the world sporadically. Bear that in mind then you will know why most of famous or world class bands or singers prefer they sing in English rather than their native language. And FYI around 1 b ppl in the world speak the language.
As a Swedish native, I'm surprised when people think Swedish sounds good or cool in any way. I just think we sound incredibly snobby and snarky no matter the context
Don't underestimate the difficulties in learning the Swedish language. It might sound similar to English to you, but I assume English isn't your first language either, otherwise you wouldn't be able to confuse Swedish with it.
Swedish and Norwegian is supposedly the languages that are the quickest languages to learn for English speakers of all other languages. It’s a lot of overlap with English, with relatively recent shared history between the languages But as a swede, native English speakers seem to get the basics and get fluent relatively quickly, But taking a long time to get the pronunciation correct. English speakers often sound a bit monotone, flat and emotionless while speaking Swedish as they aren’t used to using tonality and melody while speaking. And Swedish vocal and vowel sounds are made very forward in the mouth, while most English accents are quite guttural and forming the vowel and consonant sounds far back close to the throat. A Irish English accent is spoken quite forward in the mouth just like Swedish and Norwegian. And why you have similar rolling R’s, and hard D and T sounds. So if you can wrap your head around making sounds like you would in a Irish English accent. You probably will have a pretty easy time learning Swedish or Norwegian compared to most other languages. (Swedish and Norwegian are extremely similar. If you learn one, you can read and understand the other)
@@IQzminus2 : Norwegian and Swedish are two quite different languages. Even if Norwegian is your native language, you will not possible be able to master Swedish without thorough language training.

It is a common feature in the swedish language, the sound is roughly "hw",
"Ch" in german + "u" lip shape
Pronouncing “sj-“ as purely a “sh” is a dialect thing, specifically Northern if i’m right
