Through years of working at a golf course I've fixed hundreds of poly waterline leaks.. small stones against the edge of the waterline can cause weak points as the water runs through and makes small vibrations. It won't happen overnight but it definitely will occur over a few decades! Keep up the great work 👍

I LOVE how clean you keep your environment, equipment and critters. I also LOVE how diligent you are about a rightly ordered farm. You and Dennis noting and investigating what looked to me like a tiny puddle was so 10th Gen. I appreciate how you and your family live your lives, Eric. Please tell about the rings you and Dennis wear. My guess is that it is faith bassed. xo and Merry Christmas, Claire

We've had trouble on our farm with that older 80's black pipe too, finally just replaced it. We get a lot more frost here have to have everything at least six feet deep and even more under driveways that are open all year. Merry Christmas!

I’ve seen water lines like that develop leaks from small rock touching the line and over the years the line moving so slightly when the pressure is on and off create small hole in them. We repair the same way. Glad you found it, can cause lot of money when your on city water.

Eric, you and your dad make quick work of finding and fixing the water line leak. you use double clamps like I do. so much better and cheaper than having a leak if the clamp lets go. Those inflations look pretty easy to replace...newer technology helps a lot. Keep up the good work.

While most people will be off work for Christmas.... I know your family will be hard at work providing milk for Christmas day. The life of a dairy farmer is a job that requires 365 days of work. Thank you and your family for the milk your farm provides. Merry Christmas

I admire your patience with that feed pushing robot. When it's working correctly it does do a very nice job and saves a lot of work. I can't help but think one day you're going to be working on some thing and look outside to see that feed pushing robot casually driving through the yard😂 Merry Christmas to you and your family bud

@@JHruby yes... they don't like gravel and get stuck

  • @DHESS007

As a farmer you learn to be versatile on dealing with issues. Such as the robot, you noticed the problem, diagnosed the issue that is creating the problem and come up with a solution. Most times the solution works, occasionally you have to rethink the problem. Being a farmer ultimately means you are "a jack of all trades" to fix the majority of problems that come up, otherwise calling in someone to fix these issues would eat up your tight and small profit margin that you run on. Eric, I am sure you and your Dad are not the only ones that have driven off with the fueling handle still attached. You guys do really work hard to keep things as clean as possible. Just the nature of the business with keeping the cows in buildings really requires a huge amount of work and you have to keep up with it, otherwise you could get overwhelmed quickly. Of course, in the milking parlor if you are not meticulous you will ultimately hear about it. You all have a new young one to help celebrate Christmas this year, so have a Great Christmas.

Pipes have a tendency to slide back and forth with pressure of well pumps kicking on and off and if a sharp stone is against it it will eventually cut the pipe. I knew of someone having the same issue they had the issue when the ground was somewhat frozen. They found the issue with their well continuing to kick on and off with no water being used.

That's one clean looking parlor. Pretty good patch for the leak. Might have frozen on one nasty winter night. Put about a foot of straw in the hole to insulate it before you put the soil back in. That's what my dad did on the winter leaks we got between the house and barn. Good video. Pax.

Eric back in the 1980's the PE pipe wasn't very good. I worked for a water company and we had given our contractor spools of PE pipe to install in a development. A few years after it was installed we also had many leaks on those services. What had happened was, (1) the pipe split like your's and, (2) there were holes in the walls of the pipe. We replaced everything with K copper pipe with flared fittings. You're lucky it has lasted this long. Hopefully you won't have many more leaks. Merry Christmas and stay safe.

I was putting in fence a few years ago and while digging a corner post hit a 1" line running to the cattle waterer. That was a real bummer, I had just barely hit it, but it was that ridged PVC and it took a good amount of work with my son and I to repair it. Yours is out in the middle with no seam, so that has to be a flaw either in the pipe or the installation, getting nicked some how. That milker is really neat, amazing how those work, what little I did it in the past was by hand. Thanks for sharing, I hope y'all had a Merry Christmas.

Had a similar leak last year...we guessed that it rubbed on a small rock with fluctuations in water pressure because it happened a few months after having issues with a well pump.

We had a water leak years ago in the winter and the milk truck dropped into a hole that was undermined by a water leak. It's a little different here because the water lines are 9 feet deep so they won"t freeze.

Longitudinal split pipe indicates a freeze happened. The whole pipe looks pretty shallow. I don't know your area frost depth requirement. I'd suggest relaying that line to make it deeper. Summer job next year. Just my humble opinion.

I’m surprised your water lines aren’t deeper into the ground. The freeze depth/line doesn’t go that far ? I’m from New England. When we put water lines into our new horse barn back in 2005, I insisted they be at least 4 feet into the ground. I’m sure it wasn’t necessary to bury it that deep but I don’t like surprises if I can help it. I worked for a horse farm in Manchester, VT. They ran water lines 10 feet deep from what I understood. One winter was so cold, the freeze line froze up the water system. That HAD to be REALLY cold ! Good luck !
