I must say that you are one of very few you tubers who does not talk non sensical stuff. Only work related information and stuff, no other unnecessary talks . Very good and very mature.
Great job! You can really see the effort put into each stage, from harvesting to distributing the silage in the storage. I'm amazed at how you handle such a massive workload around the clock! A true example of how teamwork and attention to detail bring great results. It's inspiring to watch!
I can see many benefits to the silo storage of feed. The top unloader, the quality of feed, the saving of labour, and of course, robots can easily pick up feed. It's going to be a big change on your farm. Come winter and you will need a sweeper brush for the robots outdoor paths. May I suggest one with hydraulic angle control like on a snow plow. It will make your life so much easier when the snow comes and the cows are hungry. It will work just as good in summer as well keeping the paths clear of debris. Cheers all. 🇨🇦
nice view from the silo at dusk. Before 2012 we had 6 silos each with 2,000 m³ (56,600 cft), now only bunker silos. Bunker silos are standard in Germany, upright silos are now very rare. Greetings from East Germany.
In 20-30 years when his knees and back don't work as good, he'll regret having those silo's...or hopefully he'll have a kid or two that can get up and into them. I never thought I would get old. Pushing 50, every damn thing hurts, randomly. It's infuriating.
Terrific job Eric! Your channel is in my top three and I love to see new videos pop up. This new silo system is incredible, and as an electrical engineer, I’m happy 😃
As someone who fed cows on a dairy from bunks and had hmc in a 60ft stave i cant possible imagine choosing to build new silos, just climbing that dusty pigeon crap covered chute once a week to switch doors was bad enough. But hey its your farm 😂 do what is right for you
I just nominated you Eric. I hope more of your viewers will do the same! Thanks for Nominating a Farmer To Farmers with Love Contest at Culver's We’ll Announce the Winners Soon Thank you for helping us show appreciation for the hardworking farmers who have dedicated their lives to creating a brighter agricultural future for us all!
As you get more experience I’m sure you’ll do some things differently. It looked like at least 8 feet wasn’t filled under the unloader in this silo. The distributor could work a little better so you have less forking. Near the top, it seems to need to spin faster. Good video, Eric. Impressive power plant on the blower to provide all the lift.
Guys when your in the silo’s please wear a dust mask ! your young and it doesn’t bother you now but when your older it definitely tells on your lungs . I never thought building dust and sawdust bothered me when I was younger but. It tells on me now . Sorry I don’t mean to try and tell you what to do , just a wee bit of advice from an old guy . Great video though 👍
@@danieljohnston5306 Yes there’s always somebody ! that’s got terrible lung problems caused with fine dust , trying to help young guys learn . I would have loved someone to give me this advice when I was young and thought I was invincible. Wish I could show anyone X-rays of what it does to you ….
I watched your great video and it takes me back to my kid days tramping the silage down in the silo my end jumped ahead before I could comment on the video.
Around the wall you may get up to a foot wide and 1 1/2 feet down of spoiled silage is the worst I've seen when silo is coverd over winter, the center will be really good feed
I'm so impressed with the volume that blower can throw. It's incredible.. good blower and big HP. I've plugged up a blower to many times trying to push the capacity lol.
Hi i love your videos im from Slovakia please dont stop posting videos because we love you and my family same works with cows and we know what is hard work ,🇺🇸🇸🇰
Hey here in switzerland we use waterpresses on top of silos ä basin filled with a bit of water saves the shoveling of feed ontop of the plastic under the baisin is no spoilage nice video
We did that too, ran water on the top of the tarp, the weight of the water packed the top and kept spoilage to a minimum, by the time you opened it, the water evaporated and you just threw the tarp down the chute, didn't fork out much bad. Granted, pushing water up to the top of these 3 would be something, they definity aren't 60 ft'ers!
When i cover a silo, I clean the unloader off after I have the cover on and use that material to hold the plastic down so I do not need to throw so much on from the side of the silo.
You guys really need to look into getting a weedeater paddle rake to level off the silos , it would take about 5 min for one person to get job done with one.
Glad you had Caleb in there with you, i know a guy that went into one of the silos by himself steps on a hollow pocket and drowned to death they found him 22 feet down.
I grew up with seven silos all of which were covered in that same way. Hard to believie we used that same technique 50 years ago. In retrospect I thought It might be a good idea, especially now, to get some steel ring rodss from some old silo and use them to hold the plastic down around the edges. I think it would work better. Also it would spare you the musty silage on top of the plastic.
We quit covering our 24'x108' silos. Dinged from mold dust too many times. Just went right into feeding. This year, we switched to bagging the silage for higher digestability.
Are you seeing better results feeding bagged silage? That was a concern of ours going to silos but so far cows are really liking the silage at 60% moisture.
I would see if you could program that to have the auger run in reverse then you could continue to fill it up and even if it piles high, the auger would remove it to the outside edge. No need for those pitchfork up really high on top of that, you could sneak more cards in.
The problem I see and how fast you're feeling the silos is compaction set a few days and how much more room is in the silo I remember in one day when I was little we felt a 20 by 60 in one day came back four days later it was only 3/4 full that's how much you can pack it in 4 days I can only imagine as tall as your silos are and how much it goes down
I'm always impressed by the precision and efficiency of the harvesting crew - one machine harvesting and cutting and the second vehicle being filled with the harvest. Are the two vehicles cutting and collecting the corn harvest coordinated electronically or do they just coordinate manually as they go along?
Manually. Except with a ton of experience. It becomes automatic after a little bit of time. The drivers know where the chopper operator wants them, and only a little wave or head nod let's them know when they are full. Even radio's become superfluous.
Not a fan of that loader for the silos, but it is a lot better than that hair brained grain cart the Larson Farm added to their fleet. It lifts the entire bed, full of grain and then dumps it into a truck. The driver has to precisely line up with the semi trailer, too close and damage, too far and it misses the trailer. Some of these advances take some practice and adaption.
Wen we cover our silos we have a water bag that we fill with water 💧 and put it on top of the black sheet of plastic it really keeps everything in place
I would have waited one more day to top it off one more time before putting the plastic cover on it. And I definitely would have wanted to put at least one more cart load on top to really fill it up first. It would have been worth it to me to spend a little extra time leveling it off as it was being filled to get it as full as it could be. If I paid for a silo that tall, I would really want to use every foot of it. I know it probably won't make any difference, but I'm just saying.
Theoretically, you should not have any spoilage. The off gassing from the ferment should keep a protective layer above the silage, keeping oxygen from coming in contact with it.
I must say that you are one of very few you tubers who does not talk non sensical stuff. Only work related information and stuff, no other unnecessary talks . Very good and very mature.
