    A lot of the comments say she’s going to fast and he’s scared... why would you go slow if he’s afraid of heights? (Which she is aware of). Especially if you can work as fast as she did. Get the job done and take him off of there to put him back in his comfort zone.

      Exactly! If people want a slow groomer, there are plenty. Hours and hours waiting on your pet.

      I groom my standard poodle myself, and when he was younger, he was scared of being up high... but he wasn't hurt, and being out of their comfort zone is good for him.

    My Havanese used to have that tear staining problem, and her Breeder suggested Daisy's Tear Stain Away. Amazing product, and it worked. She's four years old now, and no longer seems to do that staining thing. Perhaps because we're no longer trying to maintain a Show Coat? Anyway, great product.

    I would pad the top of the dog up stand so it would be more comfortable to their underside.

      good idea, it's an option that may come later but it's not a necessity. Just like a cell phone case. You can get one but it doesn't change the product or prevent it from doing its job.

    I get that people may think the dog is shaking in fear but that is Not always the case. Dogs shake/ shiver for all different reasons and for grooming the most common reason is it is how some dogs deal with stress or anxiety. Rather than bite and become aggressive they shive/shake. It is the the equivalent of a human sigh. For this little pup it seems as tho the hight of the table makes him nervous because he was completely content in the tub. I get that pet parents might be concerned because it is their baby but unless you have been trained in grooming dogs and how dangerous it can be for both groomer and pet you really have no idea. I think she did a very good job!

    • @myfavoritegroomer
      @myfavoritegroomer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Amber, Love this comment. Thank you so much. You are absolutely right. Charlie is afraid of heights. And if others knew him like I do they would know he is getting very old and actually losing a little hearing and site. So many reasons for shivering. Mom and Charlie came out today 11/18/17 for a professional photo shoot at my salon and he was shivering like a leaf. No grooming was done, he was just nervous and heck, it was really windy and maybe a chill. But, dogs shiver for many different reasons. :) Thank you so much for your comment again and your wise mind.

    • @polychronio

      Hahahaha how can dog's shivering be equivalent of a human sigh?!? Dog's shivering is the equivalent of a human's shivering...

    Lol when she went to go ask if the glands needed done, the dog stopped and was listening intently

  • @ellendeerfoot3988
    @ellendeerfoot3988 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The dog most likely isn't scared and its just un-eased because no dog really likes the fur cut time. Just like a bath dogs shake because they don't want it to happen and they do it so you'll slow down or stop. Charlie is okay, so haters just stop. She wasn't rough and she went quickly so it was done, over with and Charlie wasn't to scared of how high up he was. He looks fine! Ignore the haters. Its hard to get a dogs fur correct, also it will grow out un-even so if you're hating stop because its not like you could do any better.

    I have a Pekingese and Yorkie that I started DIY at home because the grooming was getting costly. I have gotten good at cutting the body but my biggest problem is trimming the legs and paw especially between the toe nails which I didn't know you could cut until I saw you doing it. Also, I don't have guards on my clippers do I need them? And I only have a #10 blade which came with the clippers which blade do I use for the legs, paw, and head? I will be watching your videos for now on before I groom my pets....thanks again you do an awesome job

    For all the haters and wingers...are you all trained to be groomers???? No didnt think so, neither am I... These dogs are not being treated roughly at all, the dog is NOT crying or trying to bite her etc. its being bathed and groomed with tools that have SHARP tips on them, especialy getting their face, eyes, nose, mouths done so the dogs must be able to pick up on the groomers voice commands and firm handling to know that they must stop wriggling, pulling away, biting, raising themselves up etc etc, This groomer treats all her dogs with Care and Attention and most of all SAFTY and love. The quicker the dog gets bathed and dried the better for the dog. Its not a long drawn out process. Some dogs arevnew clients so will get used to this groomer on furture grooms. The dogs NEED to know what is acceptable when she have them in her care, you would be the first to kick up a fuss if your dog got nicked by trimmers or poked in the eye with any of the cutting tools!!! You should see my dog at her groomers she gets the same BUT itdont mean they handle her rough at all. I would let my dog be groomed by this person in an instant. Great Work Dede Croy Xxx. Oh! Iv had two Shih tzus and both used to shake like that,. My dog i have now does the same now.

    I have been looking for a new career out of corporate America. I am an older worker and I thought that dog grooming was something I would enjoy doing. I have learned much from watching your videos. The biggest thing I have learned is that to make money, you must be fast, accurate and not faint of heart. You never use a full mouth restraint on an aggressive dog which I would do if I did not know the animal. Rough only means obedience training: not torture. Keep up the good work. I admire and respect your commitment to providing an invaluable service to dogs in need when their owners fail to do so. The serious matting videos are an important learning tool to pet owners and groomers alike. Merry Christmas!

    • @myfavoritegroomer
      @myfavoritegroomer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! I love this comment. You are so right! So many details are not relayed through a video. But, you seem to get it! You are so right. This is tough on your body if this is something you are thinking about doing in your later years. My opinion is to call up several rescue groups in the breed you love and start giving time to helping their pets get rescued and helping the rescue group out. Get to handling the dogs and seeing if it works for your body. I have a back up plan as grooming takes such a huge toll on the body. So, I can't say if I had finished the corporate world first if I'd go into this as a groomer. I might go into it working with dogs with other less physical responsibilities, you know what I mean! :)

    Needs to be careful about water up the nose..especially on dogs like Shi-Tzu, Pugs, that have "short" faces. My schnauzer came back from groomer hacking.. a few days later we made a trip to Vet and my dog had upper respiratory from water in his lungs:( from the bath at groomer.

    You never spray a shin tzu’s face! They have short noses which makes it very hard for them to breathe. They are a brachycephalic breed which means short head. They can choke from the water entering their nose. Please be careful next time.

    If you've never groomer a dog/cat.. any fur baby for that matter.. she is not being "to rough" if you don't stretch the skin you're going to get chunks/bald spots regardless if using a 7f/10 blade it's going to look like a toddler did it.

    Great walk-through. I am totally new to dog grooming (just looking to do that for my own dog) and I have yet to become an amateur.
    Looks like that dryer needs a better coupling, so you don't have to work your wrists unscrewing, and then back in again. (also a time efficiency issue)
    I'm moving to my first house I ever bought, and I have lots of options there - as to how I am going to set up a personal dog grooming station.
    Watching this video helps me understand the facilities I will need.

      I am so glad you reached out to me. I will in fact give you my honest and real opinion. I am a supplier, but I've helped many start this road and when it comes to supplies you want what you need and what you WILL use, not a bunch of stuff they make you get that you don't even use often. How soon are you looking to buy? Do you want to go in stride or are you ready for the full kit now? I will personally build your order and give you an amount to covers the items and shipping. You can email me here for more details and so we can remain in contact as you start this new endeavor!~ This is super exciting and I'd love to see you grow. dede_grooms@yahoo.com (if you are going to attend a school, sometimes they give you a list of tools you need to have no matter what the brand, we will beat the $$ amount). The school here in Arlington charges $1500 estimate for the kit, one I can build much lower than that for you. Just reach out to me. Chat soon, Dede.

    I have the same type of dog a shih tzu and our groomer is the only one that will groom him because he is so aggressive. The only problem I have is that he shaves him to the skin all the way all over like there is peachfuz basically all that's left. I wish we had someone like you in kentucky

    The dog in the green coat on the table next to her has been stuck on that metal thing with its paws in the air all by itself the whole time!? Why?

    In England a lot of vets do not recommend pulling the hair out of the dogs ears anymore. it has been shown to cause more ear infections. just a good clean every other week is sufficient. Can i also say the stand used for propping up the dog did not look comfortable been metal. Could i suggest maybe using a soft padding with plastic on, would be more appropriate. As an owner of a Shih tzu I did find it very informative. thank you.

    I really like how you cleaned up his face with the clipper instead of just shears. I use the clippers on my dog and find them more accurate and effective than scissors. Lovely video...great work.

    it's amazing how efficient you are! you worked so fast and yet were so careful - charlie is so cute and it was really sweet to watch you interact with him :) do you have any tips on cleaning up pads with scissors? my poodle mix puppy doesn't really like clippers (and neither do i, frankly!) thank you!!!

      Sophie Lesher if you want to teach your puppy to accept clippers try using the opposite end of the clipper and gently rub the pad while the clippers are on and vibrating. They will realize it doesn't hurt.
