This video made me realize the progression of scan tools I've seen since the 80's while I followed my stepfather's career (BTW, he's a subscriber of yours, didn't know that until we were talking the other day). I've literally seen him go from using a computer that was heavy and mounted on an I-beam crane that let it switch from bay to bay, to stuff like the Vantage, Modis, and now the Autel stuff. Good times, good memories. I still see that I-beam rigging in some shops that have been around for a while and just haven't deleted it. Most people think they're for chain falls, and some may be used for that now, but not originally :-)
I bought an autel scan tool after seeing it on your channel (the $500 one), it paid itself back in 3 months just from clearing codes for family and friends for 20$.
$20?? If you're doing mobile scans,you gotta charge atleast $80....especially for vehicles that have crank,no start conditions...know what your time is worth..these Autel's are pretty good for the buck too...I have a 908CV for heavy truck and I charge $150 a scan
I use a 908cv in the shop and just picked up an ANCEL X7HD for the road...im pretty damn surprised with what the ANCEL can do...its pretty on par with my 908CV and costs a 1/4 of the price...and not a huge loss if it was to get damaged vs if the autel got ran over..lol....I picked up the ANCEL for 644.00 on sale...was worth every penny...bi-directional too and so far had communicated with everything from a JD333 S/S to a CAT 299...also did regens on an isuzu NQR 41hk,A Fuso,and a couple of 6.7s..just something I thought id throw out there for someone on a budget just getting started or for someome like me,that doesn't want to take a $3000 scanner out to bad jobsites....and the best part,IT COMES with the CAT 9pin,so it works with heavy equipment...the 908 does too,but as an add on where it came with the ANCEL...Also,does standard, light duty obd functions..its not really marketed as it should be,so not many people know about that unit
I use the AUTEL 908CV for HD Diesel semi trucks and it works great. After 4 years of a lot of use the touch screen starting to act up. But definitely paid itself many times , best advice is get it if needed, I survived financially through COVID with it.

I bought the torque app and adapter for my 2002 E350 7.3 because of your other videos... I still haven't figured out a good setup. I wish there was some standard pid setup layout I could load...
There's also an app specifically for Ford, called ForScan, with a free and pro version, similar to Torque. I have both apps, and if you're working on a Ford, ForScan is the clear way to go. Torque has a prettier interface, but ForScan has much greater capabilities for Ford vehicles.
Does ForScan have the ability to reprogram the PCM? What other accessories are needed for ForScan to work. I have a 2014 SuperDuty that needed the PCM reprogrammed, cost me $600 at the dealership.
@@donmartin7728 no programming capability in the mobile app, as far as I know, but also they have a desktop version that can do some of that, and it's free, I think. The ForScan mobile app will work with any ELM327 Bluetooth adapter
Hi Steve. To program or update new and used modules, the jbox needs to be hooked up to the internet though a laptop, it doesn't work though the autel tablet. The laptop will need to have autels interface software and a current subscription to access the dealer software for the car being worked on. From memory the autel software has all the dealer sights listed, with links to them and the subscription details. Hope this helps
You need to use the J2535 pass through with a laptop not the scanner keep that in mind. You can do bmw/benz with the cloud tho. If you need any info let me know.

You need a laptop to program most vehicles with that autel......the autel thru the tool can only program some bmws and some Mercedes thru autel data servers in china....all other programming requires laptop.... the j box only and a internet connection.....you go to the oe servers and pay for the files you need....the autel is a very good tool but it does not program most modules

No aftermarket scanner will do everything. I have used texa and jaltest. Texa didn’t work on my cat equipment. Jaltest works better but with some equipment it only lets me do certain stuff

Question for Stephen (or anyone who knows), will these programming functions work on Porsche cars? From what I understand each module is encoded and needs to match to what is in the system, so it's very difficult to replace alone, and you need to go to a certified dealer. I have been trying to find a way to repair Porsche cars myself, as many of my friends have them and complain about the repair costs asking me if I can help them.
is it set to 68 and you want the extra 2 MPH going down some US highways were it is legal there are videos on how to change the set limits - at your own risk - watch out for 6% grades, curves and slower people it could get messy, and if the police pull you over and ask " do you know why I pulled you over? " you can reply " because you're a sore loser " to him, because you might as well go out with a laugh.

Yea bud dont phoo your pants if it dont load first go around and nothing happens. Sometimes it takes 3 trys especially if your doing it remotely and your service is weak

Does the new autel do live time? Can you see cranking high pressure oil and ipr, icp, ficm sync like on a 6.0.powerstroke for example.
