since you already beat the game, i have a spoiler for you : when ellie leaves for santa barbara, she only has joel's old things; when she returns after letting abby go, she is wearing dina's friendship bracelet, HEAVILY implying she already went to jackson to see her and JJ before the final ending scene, it also shows why she was not sad by the empty house, she specifically went there to let joel go, which is why she takes nothing with her when she leaves, crossing the fields to return to jackson

Even if that was the message Naughty Dog was trying to tell us, why make it so we have to kill 50+ people before we got to Abby, just to let her go. Vengeance is a powerful emotion and it is an evolutionary tool. Weak people (male, female, physical or emotional) cannot and will not survive if kindness and forgiveness if there only weapon. The story line was poorly written and it could have been so much better to convey that same message. Hell, have Abby do her Yara and Lev story line, pump into Joel and Ellie, discover who he is and then have the moral crossroads of whether she avenges her father or forgives him through understanding. Better story line right there. For context, I adored the first game and have no issue with the issues ND tried to address in part 2, but they were poorly executed which is why more than half the fans hate the story line.

You laugh and cry together with the characters. you experience so much and go through so much. Agree, it's a quality story and we get so invested in the characters and their lives and wellbeing. For me Part 2 was easily the best game I have played in a long long time, I cant think of any other game to get that emotional response out of me the way they did and the game is beautiful. So many times I was screaming at Ellie to just stop, especially the first time at the farm. Poor Ellie!
