    I always have to double up with rubber plugs w/ howard leight!! But the cool thing is the voice amplification still works well even with the extra plugs.

    One critique, for the decibullz, if they don't reduce sound enough, I'd autofail them, why even consider a product that won't work?

      Because you can use ear protection for other purposes than shooting guns. Such as working with or around machinery or power tools, or concerts like he said. Muffs are best for shooting guns, but plugs are better for everyday activities.

    I use Peltor 100's with the gel cushions. Switching to the gel made quite a difference since it seals around the ear better. The cushion probably made the difference between the Walkers and Howards.

    If you paid less for the Impacts than the Walkers, sounds like you may have got one of the counterfeit models which was very common for a while. You can tell by checking the battery compartment- if there are springs rather than tabs, it's counterfeit.
    There are some other subtle differences, but that's the easiest one to check. If you go to the Amazon page, there are customer images showing the real vs counterfeit ones.

    To calculate the true dB protection; (NRR ratting - 7)/2. All ratings are lab ratings with perfect fit on smooth surface, & optimum pressure. Electronic features add nothing to hearing protection from gun shots. If electronic shut out response time is not supper fast, some the gun shot SPL could actually be amplified. Doubling up only adds 5dB to the highest level of protection of the 2 you are wearing. Best method for hearing protection for recreational shooting is to get inner ear without electronics that provide best comfort/fit and double up with electronic muffs for situational awareness with the best cheek well fit and adjust volume based on the degree of situational awareness you need. Protect your ears guys. Quad speakers, USB ports and Bluetooth are all good for home entertainment but you won’t be able to enjoy it if you lose your hearing at the range. Final point: hearing damage can occur from single events over 140dB and longer than 8 hours over 85. Damage is cumulative and happens even if the sound seems ”comfortable”.

    The SureFire Sonic Defender version you showed I’m the Amazon screenshot was a solid core, which gives 26 dB of noise blocking. However, the version you tested had the removable hearing plugs and I think two flanges on the hear inserts, which would make them the EP3 with 24 dB of protection. I’ve never tried them, but they do look interesting.
    Thanks for the review!

    I have both the Walkers and the Howard Leights and I agree with your findings. I've had the HL's for 3 years now and they work great with long battery life. The Walkers beat them with the padded seal that goes around your ears. It's much thicker and more comfortable, and it seals better around eyewear than the Howard Leights. I also think the Walkers are more comfortable and look better.

    I love my impact sports. But I agree, indoors I have to double up ear protection. Which isn’t so bad. But outside I shoot alone so I keep them closed out and they are sorta loud but it’s manageable for me. Plus I plug my phone into it and play music. That does help a little drown out the shots

    Hmm I'd be interested in trying those walkers out. I like my Howards but like you mentioned they don't do a great job at reducing noise. I also have noticed on my head at least they are too large. On the smallest setting they want to go low on me ears. I usually where a hat because the little button on top pushes it up to the correct hieght. Maybe these will do the trick. How was the head band compared to the howards in length?

      At the range guys will often wear electronic muffs backwards as range commands etc will be coming from behind you. If you were hunting etc then yeah you’d want them pointing forward but makes sense to point the mic’s towards where the sounds you need to hear are coming from

  • @bushgnome
    @bushgnome 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently bought the same pair of Walkers, they are definitely NOT for the range... Ive taken them to the range twice and the sound was still so deafening, I just went back to ear plugs. I haven't shot with them out doors yet but I think that's where they would be better suited, rather than indoors.

    • @DTC-ex7wg
      @DTC-ex7wg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From almost everyone I've watched as far as ear protection goes, always double up ear protection for indoor shooting, outdoor one set can do fine, but because the sound is trapped bouncing off surfaces, its always good to use plugs and muffs indoors.

    Do the Walker Razor Slim Electronics have to have the batteries to work? I get that the batteries would be needed to be able to hear someone talk, but if you run out of battery power or forgot to swap out to new batteries before going out shooting, would they still reduce the noise of gun fire?

    • @pewpewTN
      @pewpewTN 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they don't have to have batteries to function as passive hearing protection, the electronic part dosen't do anything for hearing protection, it's just for situational awareness & communication.

  • @patrickfisher7179
    @patrickfisher7179 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great job. I particularly liked this one, because protecting our hearing AND being able to hear others (eg. range officer) is very important. After your review, I feel a little better justifying going electronic on the muffs. You dah man!
