  • HOW TO GROW ALSTROEMERIA FROM SEEDS- PART 1
In this how-to video on growing Alstroemeria, I show you the first step in starting alstroemeria from seeds. To be successful with growing alstroemeria from seeds, you need to get a head start early in the season. January is a good time to start the process. Alstromeria seeds need a period of cold stratification, which simply means they need a period of cold to switch on their mechanism which tells them it's time to grow. You can do this cold stratification by simply placing seeds in a damp medium and placing in the refrigerator for 3 weeks. In my video I show you how I do that. It is a simple process, but if you do not do this first step, and decide to sow them into a tray, they may not grow. This video is part one of several in a series on how to grow alstroemeria from seed. Come back again and follow along with the other steps in growing alstroemeria flowers successfully from seed. In this video I am growing alstroemeria ' dandy candy' and alstroemeria ' devotion', both of which I purchased from the online seed company called Outside Pride. Please consider subscribing to my channel if this information is helpful. Thanks for watching and come back again.

I started my ALSTROEMERIA seeds 6 weeks ago. 3 weeks in warm condition then 3 weeks in the refrigerator. They were really tiny seeds. Yours looked a lot bigger. I purchased them on Ebay.

Hi Mark, hmm, I wonder if you were sold the wrong seeds? I have some seedlings emerged now and they are definitely alstro seedlings... Unless you have a special variety and they are supposed to be naturally smaller. I guess just wait and see what happens :)

Can’t you just put the seed packet into frig by itself and then plant the seed?

Hello, did your method work? The reason I ask is all other sources say soak, then seeds inti flats, then into refrigerator?
