    tip: use fingernail clippers to snip the ends off zip-ties. it cuts as close as possible and leaves a curved end that won't snag or cut ya.

      Probably because it looks bloody useless @ 0:39-0:45. A bit like those so-called 'ass savers'. eBay & Amazon are so cheap these days that you can get a proper one for a few quid. Why waste time fannying around with scissors/knife/hole punch/zip ties?
      If money is the issue, just source a second-hand one for free from websites like Freecycle or freelie-wheelie. It's not difficult.

      I made a front mud guard based on your pattern but used a 1.5 Liter Coke Pet Bottle. The bottle curve is just right to provide contoured tails.. really great and thanks... Just one BIG Problem thou.........I dont have that GMBN Sticker.... makes me sad..:)

      Used this similar idea to make a mud guard using a thicker sheet plastic which I overlayed in carbon fibre cloth and soaked it in resin. Turned out really nice , incredibly stiff and light , as well as good looking as if it’s an off the shelf product .

    How could anyone dislike a hack like this when mtb has become so expensive
    I've got my Green 2ltr sprite bottle, zip ties, plenty of stickers. I'm all over this now. Just as I was looking at mud guard reviews too. This is way cheaper and they look better then the ones people sell, light weight, customizable too, love it. Thanks for the hack ❤️🙌

    Top tip - Sellotape the template to the bottle before you cut the bottle at all. Then draw around it, makes it much easier.

      you can make mudgaurds designed for the front fir the rear, if you want one of thoise big floppy plastic things just buy one off the internet. if you want a small one like this, just do exactly this and fit it to the rear of your bike.

    • @wOhst

      Take an "ass saver" as template. Voila!

  • @laburnum802a4
    @laburnum802a4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great Template - Nice design. The material i used was a sheet of 10 page thick firm polystyrene which came free in a packaging box i hd lying around. I painted it to give extra firmness. Did not have a large plastic bottle lying around so just used this sheet. My guess is that it will be less noisy.

    Timesaver: spray adhesive the template page around the bottle to cut the template and bottle at the same time, skipping the top & bottom cuts as well.

    I make mine out of old plastic paint lids I just remove the hard paint flakes and then I do the exact same steps as in the video, I find the harder the plastic the better as it doesn't bend or flex like the plastic bottles.

    Instead of cutting or punching holes, use a high temp soldering iron to melt some grooves, seems to tear less for me, small impacts tear the knife/screwdriver holes I generally made before trying the iron.

    Great idea! The only problem is that the mudguard does not fit all bicycle frame types in the fork gap. There is not enough space there. Brakes/cables can get in the way, too, preventing installation. Super cool device, though, if it can be installed on your bike.
