What I don't understand when seeing these old abandoned places, is why there is still stuff left there? I understand why places like Chernobyl would still have stuff everywhere, since those people had no time to get out, but these people moved out. Like, don't you take all your stuff with you when you move? There's even a photo of someone's ancestor left there!

yogurtpo3 I feel the same too, even the bed with pillow and blanket, chairs, desks, calendars, everything was left like a sudden haunting. However, it could be called a rush since people left this place for just a few years (1997-2003), I know a place need to take 10 years or 20 years to loosen its sense and up to 50 years to clear the city like this. Back to the time, there are tons of changes, pressure from eviction and smuggling, should be a force to fled them all.

i like how the calendar on the wall shows Jan 1996, which means the village has been starting to vacant since 1996. But the video says the villagers are leaving since 1997 but not 1996, so subtley implies everything bad or evil starts since after the handover of HK to China in 1997

That's so sad residents evicted from the only home some of them had ever known.
Displaced by the effects of greed, so luxury estates could be built. The only outcome is that of a modern day ghost town. So there was no winner in this game.
Only a lesson to be learned.
That greed never pays. It is better to have peace of mind than great wealth

Their city planning needs to do more work. So many lands wasted on uninhabited islands yet the city is overcrowded. People hv to squeeze on tiny flats. However base on current situation, i doubt there will be improvement over the next decades.

There's no reason for people to leave such a beautiful place , but there's a chance for Hollywood to take movies here and people start to come back here as film city.
