    2.2 CC specials.... wrap them, or just wrap on the outside the 2.2 dual stage. foam can make them donut, so dont worry about width or corners, the bigger contact patch of being soft soft foam make them flat on the ground. SOFT SOFT 1/4 inch squish stationary flat. GO lightweight. set of 2.2 rup on .75 wide beadlock on a rig, its a none issue with appropriate soft soft foam CONGRATS on 5k subs

    7:30 - what about chamfering the inner hole to keep the foam from de-beading the wheel?

      I could tell before I opened the package that these foams weren’t going to be “the foams.” So I’m not doing that work for foams that are going to be used for half an hour. Instead, I’ll blame JConcepts for giving an oversized, rock-hard foam.

    Maybe you could do a comparison between 2.2 tusks and 2.2 ruptures? I guess it can be interesting to see which one is the best BIG tire

    Crawler Innovations definitely makes dual stage foams that fit those tires. I know that's not the normal operation of the canyon... just fyi... I have these tires with ci foams on a 1 inch wide Injora wheel and love them. Sift front medium rear.

    You got lots of options with the Stiff foams for Rockcrawler’s take it to the bandsaw make little notches drill holes. All kinds of options but rock bouncing might be a different story might be perfect

      Keep the foams from the Deepwoods. Unless your rig weighs 30lbs, then these might work.

    I totally forgot Robokitty exists since we've last seen her here. What a beautiful rig😍
    Would it be possible in the next "State of the Canyon" episode to show us again all the inhabitants of the Canyon?
    Also, congratulations on the 5000 subscribers milestone!🥳

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      Maybe not the next one, but I can arrange something for the one after-- I've already got this month's "paycheck" set aside for a standalone mic, so I can still use the DJI gimbal and pull decent audio. I'm also waiting to order some better monitoring stuff for video production. The fleet has definitely grown since the last time I went through the rigs in December, and a fair number of them are kind of (a lot) different than they were then.

    Squid'nserts and 3Brothers rc both have 143mm 2.2 inserts and Yzzr on Etsy has custom options. Those options are obviously very pricey and I know you're a fellow frugal so I'm hoping to see a new Canyon Custom insert debut. 🤓

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      Yeah, 70 bucks for inserts is not something I can get myself to do. Robokitty also has a bunch of inherent advantages that make fancy inserts almost superfluous-- big and long and low, she's way less prone to tipping over in any direction, even if the tires fold completely over themselves. So your hopes will all be certainly be met.

  • @SivartCustomRCs

    I'm about 2min in, what would you thoughts be on trimming the exterior of the foams and using hairbuns making them an even cheaper dual stage foam? Wow, that's a long sentence...

  • @Andy_Yates

    I know the idea of remounting these tires with these foams isn't fun, but I wonder if a star pattern cut on the outside diameter would improve the compliance while maintaining some of that sidewall support. Maybe like a 45 degree chamfer on the inner diameter just to make mounting easier. I was thinking fresh razor / xacto blade or hot wire foam cutter but man, I wonder if an electric carving knife would do the trick. Being a bit of an admitted knife snob, I don't have one, but I have seen them make short work of turkeys. Maybe a weekly dumb episode is in there somewhere if you have one or could borrow one? Just don't cut or burn yourself testing 😆

  • @ekpauly

    Why don’t you chamfer the inside of the foam? Like all single stage foams. They are shipped with the tires just to keep the shape, not intended to actually use. Lol.

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      If someone can show me a method to get a decent, consistent, repeatable edge I'll go back to trimming foams. It always looks like a hackjob, and I hate it.
      I think about 50% of tires can claim that the inserts are "for shipping purposes." Or at least they should, as it would explain why they're so bad. But some tires do just fine on the included foams.

    • @ekpauly

      I agree, but if you have to use the stock foam then you do what you need to. I just throw them away, i was keeping them and realized that I never going to use them. I start with an amazon or proline dual stage, and use that as my baseline. The less variables the better. I know the foams,so lets test the tires. I can appreciate you single stage foam analysis, but it just another factor that i cant sit and mind deal. I effing mind deal everything.

    I ❤ these wheels!
    Where did you get them?
    Are these like the Canyon Trails just blown up or do they have more lugs then the 1.9 Tusk?

  • @AnyAssumptionBanter

    The proline's hyrax lp g8. had the same exact issue. they shipped this smaller tire with inserts from the larger. could not get the beadlocks on. it ballooned the tire. absolute nightmare. i however, gave up as i couldn't find the right size inserts since its a unique size.

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      Might need a little trimming, but I think the inserts out of 2.2 Canyon Trails would fit the LP Hyrax, as they're also 5.3" tall. The foams might be a little wide, as the CTs are some fatty bois. But they are far and away the best "manufacturer provided" foams I've seen/tested/used. Dual-stage, no less.

  • @EddieDesigned

    I am so glad to hear that your scale doesn't have 100. It should never be possible to hit that final mark, as the moment it is hit, there can be no further possible room for improvement. Perfection has been hit, everything else may as well give up now...

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      Yep, no such thing as a 10. A tire can pull a 10 on a single obstacle/task, but I can't foresee a tire pulling 10s at . Maximum forward drive usually equals poopy sidehilling, so we'll always have that to keep our head out of the clouds.

      The Rovers come with some absolute PILLOWS from HPI/HB. In both the 1.9 and the 2.2, I'm just running the included foams-- because they're on Lil' Fella and Ms. Direction respectively, two of the lightest members of the fleet.

    I have been looking through some of old videos looking for what servos do you use for shifting and dig. I have tried a few different ones and they still get hot on 6 volt. I am lookking for full size 6 volt. I am running 3s.

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      A dig/shift servo will only get hot if the endpoints aren't set correctly. I use uber-cheap JX 4409MGs for most everybody (full size, half-height.). $15 bucks.

      Oil: 40wt, in stock Ryft kit shocks fitted with Traxxas Long Arm springs (white stripe front, orange stripe rear)
      Definitely no 2-speed, I built a gearbox with 4:1 internal reduction, and am running a 72T 32P spur from an RC10GT, so the FDR is 74:1.

      Foams to fit the 2.2 Tusk? I haven't found anything specifically listed for them outside of the Squidn'serts at $70 a set, which is a bonafide non-starter.
