  • We also wanted to have them try the best sauces from the most respected regions in the US, so we reached out to LawLers Barbecue (Alabama), 12 Bones (North Carolina), Gates Bar-B-Q (Kansas City) and Rudy's Bar-B-Q (Texas) who agreed to come on board for this project.
    (We tried reaching out to several places in Memphis but none were interested unfortunately. Sorry Memphis, we tried our best)
    First, we wanna say this project wouldn't have been possible without 12 Bones, LawLers, Rudy's and Gates. These are already successful and respected businesses who could have told us they weren't interested, but they loved the idea of this project and having their local region represented. It was also awesome for us to be able to try all the different styles of sauces. Please show them your support and if you stop by one of their stores, tell them you saw our video:

    -LawLers (Red sauce was Northern Alabama sauce of the year): tiny.cc/lawlersbbq

    Taking leftovers home in America is common. People would more likely look at you as wasteful if you had left more than a few bites of food. That is why restaurants have so many to go boxes and bags. Take it home and eat it for dinner the next night. That is also something people don't understand about American portion sizes, we also like to take it home and have it for lunch or dinner the next day too :)

      It's not just leftovers (which is common in South Korea too), but like literally everything. Korean cuisine has a lot of side dishes (banchan) and almost nobody takes that home, so that's why people looked at her crazy. It's not the same thing as putting a burger and fries in a to-go box.

    • @devincook1396
      @devincook1396 7 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      So if someone had an unfinished steak that is ok to take home, but you're talking more about taking the free buns home too? Is that how I am understanding this?
      it actually is making me laugh, cause I can't help thinking about people who go to hotel rooms and take all the soaps and shampoos in the room with them too lol

    • @1412Bunny
      @1412Bunny 7 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      have you ever eaten at a korean restaurant before? they usually give like a dozen small side dishes for free to eat with your meal, it'd be unusual to take them home since they're small.

    • @devincook1396
      @devincook1396 7 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      No I haven't, there are not any places that are close to me, so I have had to cook my own korean food at home. However now that you mention it, I have seen the amount of side dishes sometimes, so I guess I understand how it is different. I still would probably throw it all in a box and take it home though LOL. Waste not want not ;)

      Geo Nif Gahaha you act as if your society is of perfection. Human behavior is a matter of circumstance, and I assure you any society being put in our position would likely be similar in nature. Just imagine your country as diverse as the US culturally and ethnically, these problem of obesity, opposing parties, flawed democracy, power projection, etc... is nearly because they were either given the opportunity, or happened to be the ones where it most likely would have happened.
      Gotta remember we citizens of the states are from Europeans. And those Europeans absolutely fucked over the native population and have done so much blasphemy ever since the beginning of civilization.
      So if you are trying to compare, you are just embarrassing yourself. Comparing populations is a nasty and irresponsible thing to do. Don’t think you are any better then us because you don’t have x problem or such, we are all equal in the general sense of humanity. But media loves to brainwash people into thinking Americans are some type of disgrace or terrible people. You just like to prioritize ours, as we could just as easily prioritize yours, and make fun of your society and blast on your problems as easily as you can blast on ours. Keep in mind everyone from the old world are “Americans,” (since we aren’t truly “Americans”) so you are really just making fun of yourself, stop being a damn hypocrite.

      anomaly.dab In general, most North Korean citizens are kind and warm-hearted people. Even North Korean defectors will back that up. Its the people who work for the government or in some sort of way connected to the gov't are the ones you need to avoid. When I visited Seoul, i met my friends who are from the North and they would happily tell me everything about North Korea. I figured they'd be sick of people asking but everything is so completely different that they would oblige in telling you about it lol. Don't be fooled by what the news tells you, that every single person from North Korea wants death to the western world when its only the governent and the higher ups of the people. The ordinary citizen, in the end, wants the two Koreas to reunify. The gov't on the otherhand does not want reunification. Simply because they'll quickly lose power from the South, the people will oust 'em once they completely figure out how technologically inferior and how completely bad they have it compared to their Southern counterpart, and the fact that they've been lying to their people since their inception lol.

I was hired by Doc Hollywood despite showing up an hour late - nicest guy I ever met (and worked with), and didn't hold it against me that I was covered in tire dirt because I'd had a flat tire on the way there and had to change it.
      Best part of working there was the food. And even on my off days I'd comp pulled brisket (came with a loaf of bread) and sides for me and my friends, almost every week. Food was great (assume still is). Still remember how to make it all (and do when I BBQ).

    Im British, living in America. My grandparent lived during the fallout and shortage after ww2, they taught me to expect the unexpected, to be resourceful and NEVER waste food. Even if you dont need that food taken from a resturant then someone on your walk home will. There is no shame in being hungry, they learned to work together and share and most importantly PREP, always have a few months food and water on hand and prep for more than that if the lives of your neighbors matter to you. I will live and die by that code, Im 35

      I hear what you're saying. Everyone takes pride in their local food culture, so it always feels good to see other people being introduced to and liking your food culture. It's taking pride in sharing a part of your country and culture. It also feels good because America is mostly known as the fast food nation, so it's good to show people that there is more to American cuisine that McDonalds and KFC.

      I was raised to eat everything on my plate. When I moved to Korea I almost died! The portions were too much. It was explained to me that if you cleaned your plate it meant you had a bad host, they did not give you enough. I learned to leave a little. Bringing food home though? Never. It would look bizarre, like you were homeless. There were several cultural differences like this that really took time for me to accept.

      @@rexmundi3108 Man, I don't care if it's culturally unusual, waste isn't something I'm such a fan of. If you make a huge pot of pasta at home, you're not going to just throw it out once you get done with the supper. You put it in the fridge and bring it for lunch the next day, or you have it if the rest of your family wants a meal you don't like, or you just keep it for a while to eat if you get hungry at an unusual time. Why should it be any different at a restaurant?

But what y'all are doing is incredibly amazing and I hope you all get to do a million more videos like this.
