One of my favorites. I remember the days of the Vietnam War and my dad was sent to Thailand for a year. Merle came out with Okie From Muskogee. My favorite old song of his is "Silver Wings."

Merle was my wife and I's favorite country singer, and this song that he wrote was our favorite of his as well. By your own reaction, it sounds like Merle has become one of your favorites as well. So, thank you for reacting to it. Any Merle song you react in the future is fine by us, since everything he did, we enjoyed them all. We saw him live just a year before he passed, and his voice was still captivating as when he was a younger man.

Merle Haggard was in San Quentin prison. California Governor Ronald Reagan granted Merle a full pardon due to his lack of representation and excessive prison 😮. His voice is great! Check out Ponch & Lefty or Mama Tried. Anything by Merle tells a great story!

This version was merle in his later years. In my opinion it's the best. His other versions are great but as he got older the voice was fading but he more that made up for that with the emotional versions he did
