Max you forgot about the speaker test ! Make sure you make a comparison video of m2 vs m4 iPad Pro !
I bought those Vessi shoes; tried 'em, expsensive; didn't work. Don't buy. But Max's video was good!
that was an extensive test, good job

the Magic Keyboard for the M4 which color should I get
I have both Magic Keyboards, and it definitely does not feel like you have to mash the keyboard and feel fatigue when using the older Magic Keyboard. They require the same pressure, with maybe the new Magic Keyboard being slightly more clicky vs less clicky.
Stop overhyping everything new. The new Magic Keyboard is better, but not because it is easier to type on because the keys are “easier” to press; it’s better because of the material build, function keys, bigger trackpad, and a much faster charging passthrough speed.
Is it compatible to M2 iPad?
@@gcjohntoledono
@@gcjohntoledo The new Magic Keyboards only work with the M4 iPads. The magnet locations are different. The dimensions are also slightly different.
Does pressing and holding CMD key to display list of available keyboard shortcuts, does that always work for you on new Magic Keyboard? Doesn’t seem to always work on mine.
Why didn’t they just make the original Magic Keyboard like this?!?!? Couldn’t have been THAT hard. Also, is it just me or does it seem that he’s over exaggerating the difference lol? Almost making it sound like the original is now “trash” lol.
If you go back to the what pre-dated it - 2017 Magic Keyboard Folio - you find that it was made out of mesh and had a trifold design. When Apple released (I believe) the 2020 iPad Pro they released it later with the Magic Keyboard and it was a Pseudo mesh keyboard hybrid that was familiar from the redesigned Magic Keyboard folio from the 2018 iPad Pro. There intention wasn’t to make it like a computer, that was there whole 2017 campaign. Later they integrated things like stage manager and the M series chips as well as adding Mac only apps they finally gave into integrating Mac and iPad. Each year the iPad becomes more like the Mac, although they still don’t want to completely integrate them together as one system as it makes either or more obsolete. And no the original is not trash, and he is over exaggerating it, it’s not horrible but until you use something newer you realize how it’s better and more premium. Also, his job is to entertain.
Yh there basically the same just a bit bigger trackpad and abit of metal thats it
There's not a huge difference. It's a nice update but I'm with you. He's over exaggerating a *lot*.
@@marcust123 the keys are straight from the Mac and no longer water proof. The old Magic Keyboard used a special mesh and the transfer of data was from very think pieces of metal. It’s an upgrade and downgrade. It’s more premium and thought through.
I agree he always exaggerates and he is biases to apple tech. that's why never trust him
You can use trackpad and control centre to change settings so you don’t have to take your hands off the keyboard btw. I do that with a trackpad all the time.
Yeah he forgot to mention you can do those things with shortcuts, I still have a 2017 iPad Pro with the trifold Magic Keyboard folio and whenever I use it I can use Mac and iPad only keyboards shortcuts from even newer iPad lol.
@@agustinmurrieta-sanchezleyva oh yes. I remember. Press that Mac OS Control equivalent button and hold it from memory and the whole list of shortcuts come up.
You can be very productive with that.
I was using that also with Bluetooth apple keyboards
The balance feels much better with the new one. It’s even a bit harder to push over. I’ve just compared my old one to the new one (my wife;s new one as mine hasn’t come in yet). It’s all noticeably different. Some people are ignorantly mocking the new iPads because of the thinness. But that’s what had to be done to reduce the weight, which allows the new, improved keyboard. I like the fact that you can now charge with 60 watts, including through the keyboard connector.
Man I am in love with it, it has the best hardware in any gadget after Vision Pro. I just hope that Apple make it more capable and let is run MacOS or something similar
Apple : We make folding tablets but they only fold once, only for a small $1300
@@JOKER-bl4rd username checks out
See, i have to say I have the opposite problem lol. It seems easier to push over. I still love it tho.
The white/silver magic keyboard looks a lot better in person.
I know that the previous iPad pro won't connect to the new keyboard, because of magnets. But if hold it in the right position, will it still function?
I feel the 13 inch runs cooler than my iPad Pro 11 inch with M1, the 11 inch M1 is always warm to the touch when I write or draw, and gets hot if I use it while charging.
All that’s left is to allow the iPad Pro to run macOS 😏
Ask yourself this: if Apple is going to let iPad run MacOS, then they don’t even need to spend R&D on this magic keyboard, iPad will just sell like hot cake all by itself. This is the proof why Apple is trying to create a market for its new iPad Pro.
fr!! just one more step ahead
Why? Just get a MacBook.
doesn’t need macOS. Needs more features.
What would they want to sell one thing when they can sell you 2 things or more including the acessories?
Do the function row keys only work as iPad shortcuts or do they also work as F1, F2, F3, etc... if I want to use Excel on the iPad?
Can you tell me if this new Magic Keyboard is compatible with the new iPad Air? (I know it's not officially, because of the camera cutout, but does it work?)
Hello, how much does the iPad Pro 13 with the magic keyboard weigh? and the 11 pro with the magic Keyboard? thank you
Amazing review. Would you say the black one is open to scratching and fingerprints?
One thing you should have tested were the *hinges* and *hinge stability* when actually typing something like you mean it. Last time I was in a store, I remember taking iPad's Magic Keyboard for a spin on Apple Notes, and noticing how the whole screen just kept vibrating and wobbling as I typed (and before you ask, yes the table the iPad was on was rock solid stable). This, needless to say, was extremely uncomfortable and made my attention shift towards the MBA.
I noticed that the volume buttons are swapped. The new iPad Pro has the volume down button as the one closest to the corner, but previously that was volume up.
Is that compatible for model iPadOS 16.6?
To me it's leaps and bounds better than the previous one! You have much more room to type, better angles, FN keys then the track pad is fantastic!
I’ve got both and they are both good. Good thing about the old one, iPad sits closer in your face which is nice.
Does the white Magic Keyboard brightness work? Cuz I just bought mine and it doesn’t
Thanks so much for this, I’ve been trying to find a comparison video since the announcement. I got the M2 last year (2023), and not sure if I should buy the old magic keyboard or upgrade everything.
I also bought the m2 last year, there is no way I’m gonna “upgrade” everything just for a keyboard. Not sure if I’m gonna buy the old Magic Keyboard yet tho.
Can i buy Magic Keyboard 24 for my 12.9 ipad ? or not fit it ?
I have both the Magic Keyboard and the folio cover for my m4 iPad Pro. They also changed the angle of the folio case it’s almost straight up with no angle. they added another angle if you move the back up there’s 2 magnets a bit up in the iPad so it’s then angled.
I want to use my ipad on my lap sitting on my chair is it balanced well enough to do that?
Does anyone know if these keyboards are backwards compatible with the older iPad or the visa versa?
the 13’ with magic keyboard looks beautiful.
Does it fold flat or do I have to remove the iPad from the keyboard
Now you’re doing old on the left and new on the right? Or was this just a random variation?
insane that a MBA or even 14" MBP with same specs (M4 coming soon) is way cheaper
An MBA doesn’t have an OLED touch screen or FaceID and who knows when the M4 version will ship.
@@andrewgrant788 The MBA's screen is stuck at 60hz, has less than half the brightness, and has much how motion clarity. This all makes reading on it much worse.
It actually costs money to make things smaller. Anyone can throw parts into a big box. Putting the power of a high end laptop into a tablet, phone, or eventually a watch is hard. If you don’t need portability then don’t pay for it.
Its very nice but i do find that when closed to carry it the hinge now has sharp edges where the two parts connect. Its not a massive issue but would not expect this from apple could have been better. Thats about the only downside i found on my m4 black / black magic keyboard.
Try swapping the keyboards and see if it works although apple said it doesn’t support 😅
I can’t get the magnets to line up. Doesn’t work.
Does it connect? In terms of the pins, maybe modifying the new keyboard might make it backwards compatible
Are the older iPads compatible either the new magic keyboard?
Does anyone know if the new keyboard is backwards compatible with older iPad pros? I have a m1 iPad Pro and want to know if it works
Is it thinner and lighter?
Please compare the iPad Pro binned chip to the non binned version. Doubt you’ll see a difference on iPadOS but I’m curious
How do the backlights look like though?
Nice thorough video. It does seem like a significant improvement. From the video it seems clear that to use it in ones lap it may be helpful to weight it somehow so it isn't top heavy.
Does the new keyboard work with the ipad pro m2?
Does the iPad Air 5th gen work on the new magic keyboard
I saw the new ipads in person yesterday and while it is slightly nicer it feels hardly any different than the older magic keyboard. Even the ipad air 13 and ipad pro 13 side by side are pretty much identical. The only real advantage the pro has over the air is if you watch 8k videos and blacker blacks which the air only supports 4k you really don't notice much of a difference. Sure the screen is sharper and slightly crisper by only a margin of 5-10%. Over all I don't see getting the pro as good value for money. If you really need a new ipad just go for the air which does 95% of what the pro does.
But does CMD-Q work now or is it still CMD-W ?
the hinge also helps, when the keyboard case is open, to increase the surface on the desk :)
Does the old Magic Keyboard work with the new ipad pro?? Hope someone will answer pls thank you
The function row is nice to have, but if you know your keyboard shortcuts it doesn’t matter as much. All the other upgrades are quite nice, though
Quality wise, the new keyboards feel better than the old one, but I went with the white/silver this time and I think that was a mistake. Keeping the outside material clean and white seems like its going to be a problem over time.
I have the white one..the 2021 (older) version for the M1’s and M2’s. I have white. I would have to agree with you lol. I usually keep everything clean but I get worried a bit and can tell when it needs cleaning compared to the black. I’ll probably go black next time.
great review - one issue I still see is how to manage your NEW apple pencil pro. There is STILL no way to store the pencil with the ipad and case without exposing the pencil. What are the best option for this?
So if you placed the M2 iPad pro on the new keyboard will it detect it or do anything...or will it just not work?
This new Magic Keyboard don’t work with older models and the same goes for Apple Pencil pro as well.
I can’t wait to get my M4 13” iPP and Magic Keyboard, especially as I get back into travel season. Between the lower weight, better battery life and matte screen, it should be a great work computer.
Well, the new Magic Keyboard is truly amazing but it could still use a bit more weight on the bottom for a more balanced stability.
Can you put the old pro on the new magic keyboard? I just want to know if the magnets and the 3 pins align and works, maybe 😅
M2 vs M4 iPad pro comparison please??
Whats the point, what ipad software is going to show off the M4's abilities, for that matter what ipad software is going to show off the M2's abilities ?? let alone any difference between the two.
Nah
I hope you all compare screen real-estate and work flow on the 11’ pro.
You just influenced me to buy this Magic Keyboard it’s awesome thank you sm for your honest review
I wanna hear your thoughts, what would you guys think if apple came out with a Mac OS lite, only for iPad pros and potential a laptop below the air aimed at the educational and business market. It wouldn’t let you run some applications like full Lightroom and after effects but it would make file management and other mod os functions easy
WHAT about scatches of the alluminium on the glas?
I wander that 11’ keyboard weight!!
I need terminal, brew, vs code
Does this rig work with a mouse as well?
yes, mouse keyboard pencil controllers, everything, but any ipad or iphone can do that
Nice video 👍
I have been using an iPad Pro 5th gen with an M1 and 16Gb of Ram, but not with an Apple Keyboard as I never liked the feel of it, or the mini micro trackpad. I use a Brydge Max+ that has the top function row and a massive trackpad, just as big as the new MacBook Pros but released much before these new macs...
I simply love it and it is still so fast that I'm not yet convinced on upgrading... Unless the MacOs experience on the iPad get released exclusively for the new 7th gen iPad Pro.
Is it useable for Ipad M2 12.9 or older versions like 12.9 2020?
No, only m4
I’m obsessed with this new M4 Magic Keyboard. It’s SO much better. More refined in so many ways. Well done Apple! Now it’s time for them to sort out the software….
9:00 Maxtech typing up the next Game Of Thrones before George RR Martin.
Another great video, guys! There is a lot to like about the new magic keyboard, but one thing I definitely don’t like is the deeper footprint once the iPad is attached. I often use my 11 inch iPad Pro on airplane seatback tables. That deeper footprint is going to make it harder to fit and more susceptible to damage from an unexpected seat reclines.
This new keyboard with the new iPad Pro is a revelation. Absolutely amazing and a huge step up from the previous. Typing on it now!
Man, they just added another file of functions, and you need to pay another $350 just for that. 🥴🥴
Can we get an apple keyboard with edge to edge iPad protection please.
Honestly this new keyboard is more attractive than the M4 upgrade!
It would be fun to see a comparison between the S9 Ultra and the 13 inch iPad Pro. SD8G2 vs M4 sounds like a criminal comparison but it would be fun to see if 3x performance difference actually means something
Seems like a heavy weight is needed for actual lap use to keep it steady
Helpful and informative video
I‘d actually like to know if you can put an older iPad on the new keyboard. Since the pins on the back are exactly the same it should work, right? I mean I get that it is designed for the new iPads so folding it up wouldn’t be ideal but it would be interesting to know if you can use it with older iPads in some way.
Hey, you didn't test the 11 inch size and the charging speeds... 😢
does the white one gets dirty easily?
The next phase could be to add a thin flat battery in the bottom part of the Magic Keyboard, adding further weight = stability or wider angle of adjustment and extra battery to the iPad
Could be an option, but the issue is that having battery in base (basically serving as power bank) would skyrocket the (already high) price and weight.
By the way. The previous magic keyboard STILL WORKS with the new iPad Pro M4.
EXCEPT the magnets do not align, so it will not stay attached.
the difference in space when the case is closed is about 1.4mm so you can probably affix sticker magnets to the M4 and just make sure the 3 prongs still make contact between the devices and it should be fine.
$350 USD NEW vs $5 USD (+ your previous magic keyboard) whatever is more worth it to you I guess.
It does look a lot more premium with many nice new touches (including larger mousepad with Force Touch) but then my question is how is it that it costs almost the same price as the old version? Feels like there should be a $100 difference now. 11 inch old style I think still £300 in the UK 👀
You’d think at least through efficiencies / economy of scales they could pass down cheaper manufacturing on the 5 to 6 year old design. 🤷🏾♂️
Is Apple going to release one for iPad Air?
I just tried them out at the apple store. The keyboards are different. The new one feels like a regualr keyboard. Nice devices!
are they really function keys? because it merely seems like they're brightness / media keys i.e. not the same thing.
What is the country of manufacture?
Im going to upgrade my 2020 12.9” A12Z chip ipad pro.. for this ipad pro 13” m4.. 😇
The new keyboard looks great. Thanks for sharing.
What happened to clipboard mode?
I was curious if the old iPad Pro would somehow fit the new Magic Keyboard, since they’re almost the same size and share the same pins. Hope you test it the next time.
no of course not, only the new ones since a lot has changed jsut as he said the old ones are compatible with the old ipad pros since 2018, this is now a new step. different ports and magnets and camera, thickness, angle everything.
One thing that no one is commenting about is that the screen bezels are thinner by about 1-1.5mm
It would have been nice if Apple had a version of the new keyboard for the M2 iPad Pro.
Anybody curious what the esc key is for? 🤔
Make a comparison between the iPad Pro M4 OLED screen Vs the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra OLED screen
I want the silver aluminium one with a black keyboard (black keys and black background like the mb pros) and black plastic !!
Does it have backlight?
No, and it was the main thing I was hoping for! In fact Apple doesn’t seem to have any backlit external keyboards, only on MacBooks.😢
there should have made a slot for the pencil to stash away in when you carry the Ipad with the keyboard. That would have been awesome.
But I still don't want to replace my macbook with an Ipad, I prefer my setup of a macbook pro and pair it with an Ipad mini for travel/take around with me.
whenever you review a keyboard, especially a white one, please remember to show its backlit
it’s kind of a must, like talking about camera when reviewing a smartphone
unless you really want to hide something
Can’t wait to get mine delivered!
Is keyboard backlit?
Yes
Yah I just brought the 13" back for the 11" cause it's so dam top heavy
The old one is aluminum on the bottom too, it’s just covered
I would love to see you test, the charging speed with different wattages and different iPad models with the old versus new magic keyboard cases! Apple, claiming the new faster charging pass through speed has me curious how much faster it is…
iPad Pro tops out at 39 watts charge rather thru keyboard or directly.
I think it is better to type on. But, i think it’s to light in the front. For me at least, I type on a lot of uneven surfaces. It’s always wanting to fall backwards lol. Maybe I’ll add tire wheel weights lolol.
Please compare Apple’s Magic Keyboard to the ones on ESR’s website.
Can you use new magic keyboard on M2 iPads Pro?
no
Will the aluminum on the hand rest scratch the iPads screen?
No
Even on MacBooks there is a small rubber gasket to keep the screen from touching the metal. That doesn’t exist on the iPad
Jerryrigeverything just covered that on his robustness video
@@narutobrokenthere is a rubber gasket around the keyboard.
jerryrigeverything has an answer to this, but, no
