    I just got a Mars Rover that looks like the X6 judging by the shape. I might need an electric wheelchair by the time I learn to ride this thing. Your review and how to is the best I've watched. So I just might live to see my 74th B'day. Thanks for your good instruction.

    You learn faster (like with boarding, skiing or surfing) by not watching your feet. That way you train your body instead of trying to convince the unicycle with your eye to brain path to control the unicycle. It's an exercise in core control.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Boneyfreak - Well said and so true. I also flowboard and the same concept applies. Also, the main goal in riding is to be completely aware of the angle of your body, wirh respect to the horizon, so you know how to adjust your center of gravity to remain on the ride. If you look down, you can't see the horizon. As you get more experienced, of course, you can look just about anywhere, because you can just feel your balance. I can now cruise along with the coffee in one hand and texting on my cell phone in the other, But it took me a good year to get to that point.

    Nice video!
    Just one correction, if you permit: You have to plug the charger to the Airwheel first, and only after plug it to wall socket. Unless charging will never start.
    Have a nice day

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always leave my charger plugged into the power outlet and plug in the Airwheel, every day, after I come home from a ride. I have never had any charging issues.

      I just bought my X3-170 and I'm confused about battery level indicator lights while charging. The 4 diodes doesn't turn on when I connect the charger, shouldn't they? In your video the lights are on. Is your device powered on or would be mine defective?

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry if that was confusing. The 4 leds are off the entire time, as you charge.

    About beeper..
    I think You don't need to cut cable.
    Only put a sticker on a beeper. Cover a little hole.
    And you will hear a signal but a more quietly.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing. Yes, this would be a good option for some people. I typically run at the Max speed all the time, and just use the pedal pushback to feel the limit. The constant beeping would drive me crazy, even if it were quieter.

    The pain in the lower legs ist just a cause of riding too unrelaxed in the beginning phase. It will go away completely once you feel confident enough to use just the foot pads.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +babywoodrose - True. After a week or two, the pain went away. And yes, I only ride with my feet now.

    Most likely the tire has a preferred rotation direction. However it's only of significance of high speed in water ;)

      @HowToLou  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +HifiCentret - You are right, the tread is techncally better one way on water. I tend to ride it "backwards" because I like the power button in the front. I have ridden through puddles and sidewalks in the rain, and have never had any traction problems.

    And what about the shutdowns depending on the angle of the hill? It can easily hurt the rider. Is it possible to disable this function? It happens after the beeps and then it stops.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Claudevir Zanfolin - I have not had mine stop on a hill, but It did happen when I was trying to go on rough terrain. I don't think it can be disabled. You are overpowering the motor. It gives you a warning beep and then shuts down to protect itself. You just need to learn its limits or buy a more powerful wheel like the Gotway MSuper that has enough power to climb stairs.

    That "annoying little beeper" is also your low battery warning. I'll deal with the annoyance. Running the battery too low can cause a fire, or damage the battery permanently. The biggest risk with these products are the battery and the consequences of mis-handling it. Fires and even explosions can occur. There was even a case when a battery burst into flames because the membrane was punctured by a dog bite. Try explaining that to your insurance company.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      splortz - There are 4 LEDs on top that show the battery charge level. I ride back and forth between my parking garage and office, every day and charge once a week, and have had no problems. I am not convinced that there have been any AirWheel fires. There are many competing electric unicyle companies in Japan. China, and Singapore, like IPS, TopWheel, TG, SoloWheel. Some claim the others are "fake" and will catch fire. I did a quick search and found no real proof of this. The case is very tough, high impact plastic. Mine took many high speed spills and flips on sidewalks and roads, when I was first learning to ride. There is no way a dog could bite through the case.

    • @splortz
      @splortz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Just to be clear, I wasn't saying that Airwheel or any other brand are prone to fires, but Li-Po batteries are if they are mis-handled. I own an X8. The fire caused by a dog was not related to unicycles at all, but to Li-Po batteries that were left sitting a room with the dog. I am just trying to point out that Li-Po batteries are significantly different than NiMh or NiCads, and require special handling, special chargers and special care. They are fantastic batteries despite their "sensitivity". Sorry if I was unclear on that.

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      splortz - Excellent points. I am glad the Airwheel uses Lithium batteries, for all their good qualities, and has electronic protections in place against all their dangers. I keep a keen eye on my charge level, shown by the 4 LEDs. That little beeper, going off, every 10 seconds was just too much.

  • @SolarizeYourLife
    @SolarizeYourLife 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you update your video comment, about what model, and battery size it is Airwheel has many models...
    yes the more relaxed and experience you have, you will not hug/squeeze the unit with the feet (unless hopping/jumping), so less touching equals less soreness...

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SolarizeYourLife - I just looked on the box and mine is the AirWheel X3 with 170Wh battery. That is correct. When I started, I squeezed my legs against the wheel, for stability, and they hurt. Now, I ride with only my feet touching the pedals, and nothing else, unless I need to jump up a curb.

    how about making a wooden fork for wheel so you can sit

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jimmy Walker - That could work, but might make it less maneuverable. As you get better at riding, you actually steer by tilting the wheel slightly sideways between your legs/feet. A seat fork would lock the wheel in alignment with your body. You could still lean to turn, but not as quickly or sharply. Also, its nice that it is small. I carry mine into work and into stores and nobody notices or cares

    • @jimmywalker1568
      @jimmywalker1568 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You put the end of the forks on the foot plates where your feet go should not cause problems with steering

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, you could. It would hinder steering because you are restricting the tilt of the wheel, but it would work. What I am saying is that as you get better, you steer by tilting your ankles. Forks would make that impossible. You could still steer by tilting your whole body, but it is not optimal.

    • @jimmywalker1568
      @jimmywalker1568 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      are you disable I can not stand for long

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So yes a seat could work for you, but learning to ride is difficult. For the first week, you can expect to be thrown and have to jump off and land on your feet. I would say that you need to be comfortable riding a skateboard and falling off. Learning to ride the airwheel is equally challenging.

    I laughed a little when you said that "you have not gotten personally injured while riding this thing yet!".. Well we both know that its just a matter of time right?? hahaha I broke my thumb and sprained my wrist on mine and Ive only had it a few weeks.. lol Its just a matter of time before I or you break our f**in necks!

    • @HowToLou
      @HowToLou  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      GeorgeBonez - I could ride a unicycle before I got the airwheel, so that probably helped. Also, when I was learning, I never tried to save the wheel in a crash. I would jump off and save myself and let the wheel go bouncing down the street.. I never used the training strap, because I think it is better to have your arms free to help you balance. Leaarning the wheel is a slow process. I have been riding it almost every day for 9 months, and I can now "thread a needle" with it. You will too. Just give it time. It becomes second nature. I now cruise to work on it with a cell phone in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other! I am also now working on hopping. I can get about 5 inches off the ground by squeezing the wheel between my feet, and jumping. My goal is to be able to hop up on curbs. I am not quite brave enough yet. I took it to a skate park, and rode it up and down the hills. Scary, but fun :)

    • @GeorgeBonez
      @GeorgeBonez 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Well the fact that you could ride a unicycle probably plays a huge role in your progress. I am not so fortunate as I have never even seen a unicycle in real life.. I made all the mistakes of buying all of the training accessories such as the training wheels, the telescoping handle thing and I will agree that these things are more of a hindrance than a help. I still cant ride mine very well but that's mostly due to my time is so limited because of my work..
      I will keep on trying tho.. I can DO THIS!
      I think? lol

      +GeorgeBonez It's almost like learning to ride a bicycle. You probably forgot how hard it was as a kid but now you have no problem. Try looking at adult people never ridden a two wheeled vehicle before learning to ride a bicycle - it's hilarious(!)

      @GeorgeBonez 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +HifiCentret Well a lot of time has passed since this discussion started and I have learned to ride my TG solowheel pretty good now but this education came at a high cost. Yes I know that I mentioned a few minor injuries in my original comment but I went on to break my left arm and crack a bone in my left elbow.. I STILL haven't stopped riding it totally but my girlfriend did finally give me her blessing to buy a real Segway (Chinese version) hahaha because that's what I really wanted to begin with only they cost too much.. I even have the Off-Road version with the big knobby tires and I freakin LOVE this thing.. BUT I still have my wheel and I still play on it too now that I have finally learned to go slow on it.. haha
