HOPE IN GOD WHO CALLS US | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (February 9, 2025) with Sign Language
We are on the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and today’s gospel presents a fascinating incident.
Jesus approaches Simon and his partners, who have just disembarked from their boats. The fishermen “worked hard all night and … caught nothing.” Yet Jesus tells Simon: “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Hesitant at first, Simon follows and the catch fills their boats. This prompts Simon to kneel before Jesus, and call him “Lord.”
But if we read the narrative closely, brothers and sisters, Jesus is actually teaching the crowd who has been listening to him prior to the arrival of the fishermen. If we go back to Jesus’ instruction to Simon, we can say that God’s Word, if listened to and acted on, could surprise us with the abundance it produces in our work, relationships, health and prayer life. God’s Word always offers us more.
Secondly, the Lord gives Simon a new calling. “Do not be afraid; from now you will be catching men.” Simon is to become the leader not only of his fishing partners, but also of the crowd that listened to Jesus. Jesus gives hope through his word that accomplishes what human effort could not achieve.

Let us reflect on Simon's admision that he is a sinful man which qualify him to become fishers of men.Nowadays the fishers of men do not accept their sinfulness and persist doing sins while performing their ministry

The word that was made flesh exposed no objectionable things on the other hand the word exposed are all objectionable things thereby making it bereft of any holiness

This gospel make me sad and remorseful because I spent time to become fisher of men with my echoes from the wilderness without acknowledging that I am a sinful man
