The cards look great but I won't use Kickstarter as they hired a political commisar. You should look into Indigogo. They take a smaller cut and are not political.

@@N7Tigger honestly, I don't think the majority of us that use Kickstarter have political agendas haha.

I like to pronounce Boehmei as "Bo-May". And I just got a G. Iheringi yesterday, and it was CRAZY. He was nice and slow the first few steps out of the dram vial, then, POW. He started ZOOMING and got out of his enclosure, and ran all over the table. He was SO CLOSE to falling off of the table, if it wasn't for my big brother, he would've been lost. I think he is around 2". After my big brother caught him, and put him back in his enclosure, he came SO CLOSE to escaping AGAIN. We got the lid on just in time, though. And he started running laps around the enclosure, then we put a mealworm pupae in the enclosure, in the hopes of calming him down. He didn't get it for, like, an hour. But eventually he calmed down enough to notice it, and he ate the whole thing! Lol. (I know I call it a he, but it's gender is unknown.) I'm glad yours didn't give you as much trouble as mine gave me. :) And my little brother got a Boehmei yesterday. ♥ Hopefully his doesn't kick a lot of hairs. ;D
    Cya next time!
    Love,

This is the one that I get the most suggested pronunciations for. I also had to people who were "Latin experts" argue over the pronunciation in the comment section of an older video. It's become a bit of a joke for me. haha And WOW...that iheringi sounds crazy! I'm glad that you were finally able to get it back into its enclosure. Yikes! And congrats on your Boehmei...sounds like you got two great brothers. :)

Loved the shots of the G. iheringi and the new enclosures look really nice. I'm using medium-sized Kritter Keepers for mine. Another great video.... 👏👏👏 I agree with the enclosures change up.... I'm always on the look out for "better and clearer". In Canada, we have Canadian Tire (which actually has quite a bit of everything, not just automotive stuff).... I've found some decent enclosures there. I can also come in on the T. albopilosum, I've got 2 (adult and juvie) and attitudes are as different as night and day. I've handled the adult with no issue... no way with that juvie... lol full that pose. But gotta luv 'em. Keep up the great work here!!🍷😎👍

Hey, Tom- I just wanted to say thank you for all of your videos and guides. I’ve spent so much time on your site. I’ve been wanting to keep Ts for a long time. My only hang up was that I was nervous about the drastic differences between New England seasons. But then I watched a video of yours where you mentioned you also live in New England. I decided it was time for me to enter the hobby at that moment :)
It’s been a month and a few days and I just acquired my fourth. Coincidentally, a B. boehmei!!!
As a total beginner- I appreciate you!!
PS- Though they didn’t make an appearance in this video, you better believe I went to Cumbys and grabbed half a sleeve of their cups for future rehousing ;)

Heya Tom! G. iheringi is currently #1 on my list of dream spiders, shockingly followed by B. emilia and Pseudhapalopus sp. Blue. If you would have told me even a year or two ago that I’d have a “boring” beginner species on my wishlist I would have laughed in your face but man! They are beautiful spiders and I’d love to have a spider that’s still with me 30 years down the line. Wish I hadn’t slept on these earlier on but let’s be honest I’d still have a brown speck. My Pseudhapalopus sp. Columbia recently moulted into about 1” and I’ve had it for about a year now and it is finally showing some adult colours and I just LOVE the slow growing aspect of them now that I have a full collection to occupy my attention, I definitely need some more slow growers. I also ADORE my B. boehmei which again I never thought I would say but she’s just always big and beautiful and sitting right out in the open. It really is wonderful especially considering most of my collection is fossorials/fossorial-arboreals which don’t get me wrong I LOVE but it is nice to go in during the day and actually see some spiders. I’ve also fallen head over heels in love with some true spiders- currently keeping K. hibernalis (which I HIGHLY recommend btw, I believe Kelly Swift has them available), L. mactans, a spitting spider, 2 Dolomedes sp. and a jumping spider. The way they move is just different and I’m fascinated by them all and really love watching them. It’s that time of year at work where all the jumping spiders are coming out and I am so excited to set up some cool enclosures for them. I’m still skeeved out by wolf spiders and I kind of accept that that may never go away but the fact that I’ve gotten so incredibly over my arachnophobia with everything else makes me insanely proud. Thanks for being my “wind down” material after binge watching horror stuff on my day off!
Keep up the awesome work, enjoy your upcoming vacation and good luck to Billie and her techs as yellow jacket season starts!

I love my G. iheringi! And, the rumors are true...they get quite BIG! This female is over 7" now. I've shared that I went through a stage where I turned up my nose to all of the "beginner" species. Luckily, I got my head out of my butt and figured out that I was missing out on some amazing spiders. Now, I'm open to keeping anything. I also went through my recent true spider stage, and I enjoy the heck out of keeping them as well. Most of the huntsmen that I picked up a few years ago have passed from old age, so I definitely have to get some more. I really want some more Cupiennius species...they are just gorgeous.
Bahahaha I'm the wind down from horror? That's amazing! As you know, horror makes up about 99% of what we watch over here. haha
      Hope all is well!

Tarantupedia shows 4 different ways to pick up a T. I like the cupped hand over them. It keeps them from getting into attack positions and it keeps them from kicking hairs. You can keep your hand over them and even put pressure on them without hurting them. I myself would never pick one up but if I had to that would be my best way.

@@Quak3cry Well, I just got him yesterday, but I have a really good idea on what he acts like. Here is a story about me rehousing him:
I opened the dram vial, and the G. Iheringi (Now named Fang) was super calm, and obedient with the first few steps out. But, on the LAST STEP, he zoomed out of the dram vial, out of the enclosure, and onto the table. He zoomed around on the table, and my big brother eventually caught him. He put Fang into his new enclosure, and Fang almost escaped. AGAIN. I put the lid on just in time, though. I gave him mealworm pupae in the hopes of calming him down, and after, like, a hour, or a half hour or something, he calmed down enough to eat it. He stood very tall while he ate it, though. And now he is back to zooming around again. He's running laps around his enclosure. XD So, Fang is pretty stinking fast. I don't think I'll interact with him TOO much... But, yeah. He's crazy fast, and probably wouldn't think twice before biting me. I think he's even crazier than my one old world (Heterothele Villosella, named Scar). So, yeah. He is a CRAZY tarantula! And he's much bigger than expected, around 2". I expected him to be around 1". I would talk more, but people are waiting on me for something, so, I got to go. Cya!

    • @TomsBigSpiders
      @TomsBigSpiders  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, Mary...thanks so much! I'm going to try to get back on my weekly schedule.
As for adult and juvenile sizes, it really depends on the species. For juveniles, I usually use enclosures that are around a gallon to 6 qts. For adults that reach 6" or less, 3-5 gallons is a good size. For larger terrestrial and arboreal Ts, you may need to move up to something around 8-10 gallons.
If you are overseas, let me know and I'll get you metric sizes!

Hey buddy! Long time no see or hear. I've been away for a bit but trying to get into watching the channel again along with others. I stumble across this video because i just recently picked up a G.Iheringi myself. Just a sling though but i seen yours and was like "whoaaaa"... very impressive. Can't wait for mine to grow that big. I like those acrylic enclosures you are using as well. I know Tarantula Cribs have those as well but interested in the one's you used as well. Hope all is well with you and the family. Hope you guy's have survived Covid if at all possible. Sending you much love and congratulations on the channel growing and by the way! Did you get a new T room. Your videos are a lot different now lol. Bell well my friend and keep those videos coming

Hey, Michael...great to hear from you, bud! Congrats on your G. iheringi. I think that you'll be pretty impressed with the growth rate of that species, especially when compared to other Grammostola species. And I can't complain! We moved in November, and now I have a huge new tarantula room. It's been pretty amazing to have the space up here for more animals and to have a devoted spot to film. Thanks so much, and I hope that you and yours are well!

Hi, Brandon! I do not, and part of that was because I didn't have a lot of money when they first got big, and I KNEW that I was going to get addicted. So, I avoided them. haha One of my friends was always teasing me and trying to get me to play. haha
